This module is so much more than a simple envelope generator or LFO. It's capable of generating complex modulations but also chords! And despite the manual disadvising us to send audio signals to the clock input, this actually sounds pretty cool!

Fantastic explanation. Clean, clear. The voice recording is very pleasant to listen to as well. :)

I've been looking for a long looping envelope for generative patching. Thanks for alerting me to this! Your tutorials are consistently excellent and comprehensive, Melvin.

Great to hear that, thank you! It is a perfect module for slowly evolving ambient patches 😄

Another Tides surprise. When I started doing patches in VCV most of the time I was improvising, so when i revisit them, some patches have connections that make no sense but give me funny ideas. Imagine you have a Marbles playing a random melody into a Befaco evenVCO and you plug it to Tides, now Tides doesn't have such an input so we use either the clock, trig, freeze or level and than send to a mixer. I wouldn't know how to explain the results but from the four outputs and half t of the modes you'll get timbre and some some strange gated alterations to the sound that are somewhat interesting. Clock and trig inputs are quite straight but freeze and level you got to turn some knobs. See you.

Wow thanks for the tips man! I love those patches where you don't quite know what's going on but still get cool sounds out of it by randomly twisting knobs. The only thing you must keep in mind is to press record 😄

I'm getting to the age, when you don't need to feel stupid, you are. I completely forgot, that I had to mention, that the experience I describe in the previous post, was done with the Tidal Modulator, which is a bit different of Tidal Modulator 2. Not only forgot, but I was thinking, that if Tides (2) is an upgrade of Tides, so they must be the same, but no, the results are completely different. So, giving credit to my 64 years of age, if you try it, do it with Tides (1), otherwise, you may think I'm loosing my "marbles", i need to push the green "deja vu" to lock my thoughts from going random forever.

Ah I didn't get the freeze part, but that makes sense now haha. It's probably like braids vs plaits or beads vs clouds. Similar but different 😀 Thanks for the tip again, looking forward to trying it out 👍

Completely unrelated, I loved your video about Tides but I want to share something I've just found out that I'm not sure but I don't think you went over and that is that I was revisiting a VCV 1.1.6 old patch where there's a Tides in it and as I was playing a lead with a midi keyboard I noticed the tempo of one of the voices triggered by Tides is going in and out of tempo, I, without reason had plugged the v/o of the midi module to Tides and as you go up and down octave wise, the voltage changes and the triggers go out of a steady pulse, the interesting part is if you connect a clock to Tides the v/o input still interferes with the triggers and if I connect something other than the midi keyboard to the v/o of Tides I may get some interesting results right after this message. Thanks again for your video, very inspiring stuff. Mutable instruments is something else.

Oh you're right haha I totally ignored the V/Oct input, thanks for the tip, definitely going to try that one out :)
