These are one of my favourite things to eat when I go to Wagamama and since we are all at home I decided to try and make them myself. With a lovely mushroom filling these were a delight to eat.

I'll have to try adding miso to my gyoza. Such a brilliant idea! I like making gyoza in huge batches and freezing them. Thanks for the recipe, Chetna!

Do you freeze them before you cook them? How do you cook them from frozen? I was thinking of batch cooking them too :)

@@cemaliye0ercaliskan Hi, Cem! I freeze the gyoza before cooking them to preserve the texture. I just put them on a cellophane-lined baking sheet and pop them in the freezer. Then, I store the frozen gyoza in a resealable bag. And there’s no need to defrost them. Add some oil to a pan and brown the bottoms of the gyoza. Add a bit of water to the pan, cover it, and let it steam for a few minutes. Then, remove the cover and let the water evaporate. Happy cooking!

Hey Chetna! You’ve been a lifesaver during this lockdown. I’ve always had a cook and maids so I never learnt how to cook and my mum worked all her life so she never had time to teach me. Thank you so much! Now I can feed myself yummy meals! Also can you give a few other options of filling combinations because ingredients are hard to come by right now.

We've only ever been to wagamamas once, probably because they are always busy. Interesting recipe especially the filling, we have some miso in the fridge that needs using up, probably get a taste for them now. Thankyou Chetna.

Thank you! I have often had these in Wagamama and wondered how to make them. We had leftovers from lunch - Thai Green curried roast veg and chic peas. So I followed your method for the cases and filled with the lunch leftovers. Everyone really enjoyed these and insisted that I come back here and thank you.

Beat the curfew and now enjoying a gyudon while watching veg gyoza recipe vid. Small wins during this trying time. Pleats look neat; can't believe this was a first attempt. I always fold mine in one direction to avoid the arduous hurdle of neat folding. The filling too is a perfect ratio. Plump. The wrapper is life goals! When I make lots of gyoza I just freeze some for cooking at a later date. 9:38 oh no!

Once you have the filling cooked and cooled, why couldn't you just fill the circles as you roll each one instead of stacking?

because they are so small and delicate it is best to roll all out first and then fill them all and then fry them as it would take longer otherwise

It's really noticeable with these daily videos that your presentation is becoming more and more natural and less "presenter-y". Which is lovely. BTW, google tells me that India (or part of India, India's HUGE!) has its own dumplings - the "Momo".

Wait is dough not vegan because of eggs or ...? im not a vegan nor have i had this type of dumpling in the US dumplings are just dough in broth pretty bland unless you add veggies to the broth

In most countries when they say 'dumpling' they mean these, or something similar, with filling. It's different than our "chicken and dumplings " type dish.

Hello, Chetna! I am your fan but sorry, I must say this is not gyoza. First of all you should cut ingredients finely or better put them into food processor and drain well. gyoza is Chinese, miso is Japanese and miso is too strong for gyoza. Since we dip gyoza in sauce that you made, too, we don't season ingredients and we don't cook them before wrapping. Well, it might be good for you but it cannot be called gyoza as roasted chicken cannot be called tandori chicken.

You are very welcome to have your opinion, as should every one else. I totally believe in making things as you like and enjoying them. You think half the indian food here on RU-vid is actually Indian, no its not. But it makes no difference to me, till the time people are trying to cook at home, giving it effort and time to make something they enjoy. The miso was added as wagamama add it to theirs. The reason for me making these was just as I was missing the ones specifically from Wagamama. Next time who knows I might add garam masala too and no one should stop me as I will enjoy it like that. You do know there is no such thing as curry in Indian food but the whole world is making it and I am very happy about it. World should be more accepting of all the food in the world and let people enjoy whatever they want to make and call it whatever they want to call it. More love in the world through food!!!!!

Food with Chetna Yeah, but it's still a very strange technique. If you roll out the whole sheet then cut out circles next to each other, you don't need to pile them, cover them etc because they won't have time to dry. That's how any kinds of dumplings and pierogi are made. Seriously try it that way :-)
