What they’re trying to do is ridiculous, especially when they’re not acknowledging that these are all also used as alternatives for people (who may or may not be vegan) with food allergies and intolerances to products like meat, dairy, etc. It’s obvious they want to try and harm the vegan movement, and hopefully they don’t get very far.

Even if they change the name, people will still keep calling it milk. Where I live, non dairy milks are on a separate shelf, and the label says 'soy-based drink' or 'almond based drink'. But people still call it milk, and that won't change just because lobbyists want it to.

I saw a target review of daiya dairy free mozzarella style shreds, it said “mozzarella style” you could see through the package and tell that it was something other than cheese, AND it says dairy free five times on the package! And this review gave it one star because they were “mislead”. Like WHAT?

They’re all mixed in where I am, especially yogurts and cheeses. the labeling of the non- vegan ones are so misleading I’ve accidentally purchased dairy a few times it’s so aggravating.

I don't think etimologically speaking it's incorrect. Milk is from an animal species' by definition but the alternatives should have the right to be called milk too. Even if everywhere in Europe it's illegal to call plant based milks on the carton,instead drink or bevarage is chosen,in daily life the term milk is used anyway.

I remember seeing a pregnant woman with haemoglobin level less than 3 g/dL and out of my curiosity I asked 'what you usually eat?' and she said 'I ate a lot of meat and little rice'. And my colleague share her story of her friend had high animal-based protein and restricted rice consumptions (some days even total exclusion) and end up anemic and well that friend couldn't surpress her crave towards rice and she did resume eating the amount of rice that most Asians do and next visit to the doctor, she was informed that her haemoglobin level is normal and no longer anemic... How should you explain these? Different blood type? Eat meat if you want to be strong like a real man? .......

@@sandyb1184 I think the main point of contention is that the lawmakers are heavily influenced by corporations, which seem to serve as their pawns. Most people who can read and think can distinguish between products: vegans and non-vegans alike. It just seems like they are unnecessarily trying to call out vegan products. If they wanted to be unbiased, then they should call it "Cow's Milk" out of necessity. What would we have to call oat milk... "processed oat fluid"? Doesn't make sense in either regard, in my opinion.

Exactly. If that were not the case then there would be no such thing as turkey/chicken/pork sausages, just the name of sausage would make it perfectly clear exactly what it was made of.but that is not the case. Saussage is a shape, so it can be from all kinds of poor dead animal, it it can be from soy or mixed vegetables or chickpeas or whatever!

You're right, I'm from one country in EU, and they dictate us for example what SHAPE and SIZE a CUCUMBER must be, and when it's not, it can't be sold and used, it's thrown away like trash. Reading is pretty important & if you just pick things up based off a picture & you’re an adult, then blame the companies, yikes. Read the packaging, it’s literally free to read.. we were taught it at such a young age. Why choose to not use it on a day to day basis? No ones saying read a book, literally read the packaging or ingredients. No one used the r word, they’re usually smarter than a non disabled person.

I worked in a grocery store for a year and half I shopped for customers who ordered stuff online and came to the store to pick up their groceries. At no point did a single customer or employee mistakenly buy plant milk for cows milk. It is t a thing that ever happened or is ever going to happen. Because people can read. Surprisingly.
