In this recipe video, Izayaa reiterates her kitchen's mission and purpose, as she's been doing since 2007, which is serving authentic traditional foods to the people in their plant based format. Izayaa's discussion partly focuses on the black-white dichotomy, which erases other original peoples from the discussion of race in the U.S.A.
Throughout the recipe Izayaa focuses on techniques that retain the authenticity of the yuca flavor since the non-vegan version of this dish aims at adding ingredients that hinder the flavor of the yuca.
In this video, Izayaa is wearing two scarves. A solid orange color rectangular scarf and a floral sparkly turquoise scarf. On one side stands a twisted looped tail, while the other solid color tail is diagonally placed and fringes rest at the left bottom.

Thank you for your channel and your wealth of knowledge. Guuurl, I was simply researching yucca recipes and your passion captivated me! I live in Baltimore and we have a large El Salvadorian community as well as those from the West Indies. I am African American and, unfortunately, the cultural division is palpable though there is a small cohort attempting to dismantle those walls. I can't wait to try the recipes but I am even more excited to learn. You have ignored a fire and for that I am grateful! Peace and Blessings

I can see a lot of things in this video that bothers me. You dont have to peel with a knife, you could just split the bark open. Then grate the cassava in water and drain and squeeze in a cloth and drain again.

I like how you brought up the so called black (black is a color in a crayon box), Hispanic and Natives and their traditions before being colonized. 2 Esdras chapter 13 close to verse 40 talks about this group of people before they were conquered over in these lands. Great sharing as I am fixing my Yucca now. It is doing the 20 minutes soak.

@EarthIzayaa
@EarthIzayaa 6 лет назад
Sylvia B if it came out bitter, it might be due to the quality of the yuca. Try adding organic sugar and straining just a bit of the water out of the yuca "dough."

People were known by what they traded more. Trade wasn't like a market . they would leave there families for up to six months to travel to the big trade capitals to trade what they grew. I'm assuming your people sold more yucca because of its "shelf life".

the main god was Yokahú (the spirit -hoo of yuca), which is why it was the sacred crop, it was the embodiment of their main protector. But there's another reason why yuca is the holy crop which was uncovered in the aftermath of hurricane Maria. The indians would have lived through many hurricanes, and after the hurricanes the land was depleted of greenery and fauna, and it's hard to find green foods. BUT even if the trunk / branches and leaves of the plants are gone after a hurricane, the ROOTS usually remain, and the roots are what the Tainos harvested. So yuca was crucial to survive during hurricane seasons. (in Africa they also cook stews with yuca leaves). But this is the reason why the tradition was passed down by the Tainos, to secure the survival of future generations during hurricanes.

I always thought this crop Yuca was unhealthy due to its high starch content and that it's hard to digest. The white interior color is evidence of its unhealthy content. All things based in life should be composed of color. I'm not from the islands, or the Dominican republic so this video gives a balanced perspective of the crop. Thanks. Please educate Allah children everywhere.....
@EarthIzayaa
@EarthIzayaa 6 лет назад
Antoine Mclean glad you found the information useful. In nature, you will find crops (veggies or fruits or roots) that are white in color but containing tons of properties in tune with the biochemistry of the original man and woman. Benefits of these "white" crops include immune defense building. Yucca is a complex carbohydrate, hence the starches and contains high levels of vitamin c and antioxidants stimulating the production of white blood cells. Peace!

Earth Izayaa hmm....Interesting. What is your stance on Colllard Greens. I'm not sure if you know the God Father Divine, (Fakim). The elder was teaching that Collard greens were emphatically now cipher. This is a teaching that goes back to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad book "How to eat to live" Where he talks about how coarse this vegetable is to the digestive track. You have to really cook it deeply and for a protracted time in order to make that and Kale digestible. The problem with that is by doing that over cooking it destroys the nutritional Content. So, we shouldn't eat it at all. There are also people who aren't apart of the 5% nation who are apart of the "Conscious community" and what they do is read alot of books and create a pseudo-movement called the conscious community. There's only 1 movement who is conscious among the world's people and that's the 5%. Some of these people serve collards at conscious events. But don't understand the nature of living things. They are just seeing that it's a green vegetable and thus must be healthy. What's your stance on collard greens? Knowledge knowledge....
