I had three of us try that $20 trick. It only worked with the woman if they were young and pretty. My husband tried it dodgy work. My friend tried who was a little heavy set and it didn't work. I went in and it worked. Remind you this was at the was at the same place. We tried on different days and it was the same guy. I wonder if it would've been different if it had been a woman checking us in?
I recently tried the 20.00 incentive. MGM Grand. I was booked for a two queen bedded room. Instead , I asked if any upgrades, and put a 20.00 with my identification and credit card. Agent indicated no suites available, but he did put me (solo this stay) into a Grand King w strip view and gave me a 50.00 food voucher. My stay was for four nights during the weekday. So for me this worked this time.
Totally works. Booked the cheapest Planet Hollywood room and got a high floor room right on top of the Bellagio fountains. On a 4 night stay over a busy weekend.
This definitely did work for me in Las Vegas. I give guy $20 he smiled He said I got you hook me up with high level floor room nice room wave my fees. He was awesome.
Did this once at Caesar's, we had arrived at 11 AM and needed to check our bags only. With the offered $20 we were given a room at that time and the view looked down on Bellagio's fountains. Certainly a win in my books to have early check in with a view!
This worked for me at the Venetian during the Rock and Roll Marathon in February. I tried the same "up-grade" trick at Bellagio and upgraded to a suite. If you are military or retired military, please use your military ID.....not only will they thank you for your service, but give you comps with your upgrades just as well.
For future reference, king and queen beds are both 80" long. A king gives you an extra 16" in width. We always opt for two queens!! We sleep better with our own beds!
Hi Aly-Nice to see you back on you tube. Normally it depends what time of the year it is, or, are there any conventions in town. But it is a tried, and true method. Excellent video. I’ve lived here for 32 years, so I’ve told friends coming to town to do this.
Awesome job with this! I've stayed recently at the Sahara and El Cortez. I had really great rooms at both. I was given a free upgrade without asking at the El Cortez. I'll try the $20 trick next time I'm in town. Once again, great job!
This is a great video. I used to do this all of the time, especially at shows. I have no idea it was referred as a trick. I always thought of it as a bribe! I think with everything going digital, its harder these days. You reminded me about the trick and will try it next chance I get.
It usually works anytime before 3pm I’ve been doing this since 21’ at Bally’s, Paris Hotel and etc. I discreetly put $20 plus depending on how nice I want my upgrade to be. And very time I’ve gotten a major room upgrade, next stop Cosmo.🎉
I just ask nicely and if I get it, I give a tip. At one point we went for 7 days and got to the hotel after 11pm. Front desk agent look worn out, people were pissed and some are screaming at agent. When it was our turn, we saw on his face the, "here we go again look". Come to find out they didn't have any rooms that are ready. We told him, that's ok. Will just get something to eat and call when it's ready and he pre-reg us. Eventhough we were tired, I can't see myself getting pissed at the guy and plus we were in Vegas. Got into the room and he upgraded us to junior suite and 2 drink voucher.
We are going to caesars palace for Christmas and plan to try it I will let you know. Also, plan to ask for a fridge for medicine. I really like your channel and James coolist.
Aly, going to try the 20 buckaroo sandwich for a higher floor, I never get a high floor when asking so this time I'm on a mission. Vdara, here we come!
20 dollar trick aka the 20 dollar sandwich used to work back in the day. At least for me the last time it really worked was around 2016. It never worked for me at MGM. All they did was offer a higher floor. The places it did work for me was at The Flamingo (got a suit out of it) and Suncoast Casino (also got a suit). I think it is harder now that it's a little more packed (especially since it's a sports town now). I did recently try it in Laughlin (Aquarius Hotel and Casino) and it worked there. Got upgraded to a suit. As for it not working and getting your money back, I usually tell the check in person to keep it as a tip whether it worked or not. I just believe in good luck/karma and hope that luck will find me by giving $20 to them whether I got upgraded or not.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Look forward to some new Vegas videos in the future.-(Laugh trak, When you mention the “$20 trick “ in this city, sometimes there is a different connotation.-LOL!)
Great video! I have a feeling that the $20 trick works less than it did before the start of the pandemic. Just my opinion. I think hotels pay more attention to hotel member status. I tried it once at the Cosmo in January 2019. It worked. However, at the time, Cosmo was a Marriott property and I had Marriott Platinum status. I think that helped me. I was upgraded from a Chelsea Tower room to a Boulevard Tower room with a Strip view with a balcony. I did get there before 3pm so that helped, it was on a Saturday and I was staying 6 nights.
We are staying in the Paris Hotel on the 10th July for 3 nights and have the Burgundy King room booked at the moment... I'll give it a go and see what happens
Ah ha! Im 6'9 as well and king beds are a definite plus. Foam cal king at home for that matter. That said, we travel on queens because Im a dancer when I sleep and my wife can get grouchy on queen springs. Never tried the trick but if I do during my next vegas trip in a few months Ill come back and update.
I’m staying at planet Hollywood in novemeber for a week but heard they don’t usually upgrade long stays! And I think it’s digital check in! I’ll try though ahaha xx
Yeah some of the Caesars properties are hard now, we encountered the same at the Flamingo. When we checked in at the digital kiosk they didn't have the room type we reserved - so we went to the desk the next morning and asked for a better room (as we were staying 3 more nights) - we got moved to a higher floor with a better strip view!
Did the trick for years but didn’t know it was a thing,I just figured it was a cheap way to get a better room. Fast forward to 2019 at the Venetian and I was told politely that they didn’t do that.
@@amandamiron9031 yes it was a very nice suite. Also, I booked through a deal with Southwest Airlines. Although the hotel was beautiful I didn’t enjoy my stay. Don’t know why. I just never felt comfortable.
That was given because the room they booked was unavailable not because she tipped, they may have only given that out to people who were unhappy, but it’s something that could and probably would have been done without the 20$
Just came from a trip from 10/9-10/13 with two of the nights at Golden Gate and this absolutely did not work. The front desk person tried to upsell me to another room for $75.00 per night, so i said no and she still kept the money! Now when i tried to check out i looked at my bill and found a $150.00 upgrade charge that i had to argue back to zero. I couldn't believe that they would charge me for something i didn't even get. A bunch of con artist if you ask me.
I’ve been going to Las Vegas for several years, about twice a year. I’ve gotten free rooms including their buffet for free. The only thing we’ve paid for is their hotel fee for the wifi and sometimes just for parking. I have a few of those hotel points membership cards and I use it to play the slots. I don’t stay playing the slot for too long and when you sign up for their membership cards, my information is already in their system and if my husband plays the slots with his membership points card, we have been sent large post cards inviting us back with a free room and buffet (just for one time).. we stay three days, and it has to be between Sunday through Thursday. We’ve stayed in their towers, and the Venetian has a third hotel called the Venezia, more luxurious and a private check in away from the main check in lobby.. they also have their own swimming pool. Many times we ask if we can get an upgrade, since I’m not the one checking in, I’ll tell them it’s our anniversary! They don’t know but other times I’ll just tell them we’ve stayed at their hotel a few times and we loved it (we’ve stayed in several of L.V. hotels on the main Strip), and most of the time they’ll give us an upgrade with no extra cost. If we’re not able to, no big deal since it’s us two and we’re touring Vegas most of the day, it’s a waste of time staying in a bigger hotel room to not fully enjoy it. Giving $20.00 is throwing away money when you can spend it on something worthwhile. But we’ve been very lucky to get free rooms and free buffets, it all comes back after spending money on gambling. Plus, the way gas prices are, retail and just a fast food place, prices are going up probably after covid hit us hard, businesses lost a lot of revenue. And of course, if it does work for others to get an upgrade, that’s awesome. 😁
Enjoyed watching your video. I have always wondered if this ploy worked. I also looked at the comments and note that some of you had no luck with the $20 upgrade request. So I guess it boils down to the individual casino and the days of the week you are staying. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Hi were visiting this week from the UK from Sunday night Through Saturday (checking out Saturday). as this is a longer stay, should we offer a higher amount with this trick? I have checked their website and they still have loads of rooms available (we are currently just booked on the assigned at checkin rate)
Flamingo is tough because it's mostly automated kiosks for check-in, unless you get lucky and get an actual front desk agent. I haven't stayed at Rio so I'm not sure!
I would imagine that’s it would not work as well during “high occupancy times” ie: weekends, holidays. Also, if you’ve already booked a higher end room you might not see as much upgrades. We are not there to hang out in our room so views and bigger beds are not something we care about. If the gave me credits or money ti spend, I’d be happy.
Not sure what you're looking for at Ellis Island. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to gamble and eat but you're not going to get much luxury out of that place even with a 100 dollars.
Sorry but I would never stay at any of those hotels . I'm a resident of Vegas And I've been upgraded twice at Ceasars to 2bedroom suite from checking in late just from over booking they didn't have our original rooms . I always am just very kind and go with the flow perks can be had by kindness. But I've also tried to stay where my friends book when they visit and have got into the room and said NO WAY AM I STAYING HERE . Unfortunately Vegas isn't as great as you might think . The Prices to park , drinks, food I can go on and on better take out a loan if you want to enjoy yourself 🎉
If you're worried about "losing your $20" you shouldn't be in Vegas! The tip should be for them trying to get you an upgrade, if there's nothing available, it's not their fault! On the other hand, your reservation should be good until midnight, so they shouldn't have been out of the room you booked! A lot of people say you have to hide the $20 between the ID and credit card, but Vegas is a culture of gratuities, so you don't have to try to be sneaky!
So when I saw this girl was turning tricks in Vegas for $20, I thought this was going to be a completely different kind of video. This is way more wholesome
If you stay at El Cortez.. You WILL be treated like a true "guest" in somebody's home 🏡... It's like THAT... The people there ARE part of "something" and employees with no family upon death ☠️ are cremated and interned in the Cortez basement honor mausoleum they got.. Showing love... Some rooms suck..I didn't do the upgrade twenty bucks thing... And my room was shitty really.. Overall with stalker fs up in the roof above me banging the f away bouncing around up there and through the night- so work WASN'T GOING ON AT 🌃- SO this won't happen to you unless you are a "Target 🎯" which . Unfortunately I am .. But that's not entirely Cortez's fault... They no better from an impersonator to a real agent . Not do they know who exactly to call about it if so.. Anyway- ec is great..I like their new key wrist bands too..*(you just don't ever leave your key in the room anymore there...😊
I like the loyalty route better. I gamble a lot at casino's I like, and they comp my stay and invite me for future stays, comped, with food credit, and free play.
@@alysmalls it’s actually not too hard to get targeted on those offers. I lost total 550$ last year (4500$ in, $4000 out). And I got comp nights at all mgm properties except Bellagio. It also comes with $50 resort credit and free play credit. I am mgm gold as well, although matched from Hyatt
