Yeah, the anime screws it up and drags it out. In the manga Vegeta doesn’t have any inner monologue, he just says Trunks’ name in shock and then just explodes in rage. It works so much better that way imo.

Keep in mind this was the first part of Vegeta getting attached to his family. It wasn't until Buu that he sold his soul to Babidi for SSJ2 and used that power to try and kill Buu. That then comes full circle with kid Buu where he finally understands Goku and uses his family for strength then on.

Crazy to think that with now in the dbs manga with his spirit and heart aligned he’s op as fuck. Imagine if vegeta had his spirit aligned with his heart at this scene. I think he would’ve done some damage to cell.
