Do you find that this cools the entire van or just the space below it? It does nothing for our sprinter 170 here in Texas. The outside temp was about 87 and the inside of the van was baking unless you are right under the ac.
The few times I've used it in the heat of the day it's been well above 90 outside with heat index of about 110-120. It's kept the inside below 80 and most importantly for us here, lowered the humidity significantly. At night it runs on night or Eco mode and cycles off and on. During the heat of the day directly under it will freeze you out. We do put up the window covers up and I aim a couple of the vents forward to blow it through the van. We also have a 12v fan that we use to circulate the air around. Our van is a 148" mid-roof so it's several feet shorter than yours with a lower roof, good insulation and it's white so that may be the biggest differences.
Honestly don't know. It takes a good sized battery bank to run it but I guess if you had a proper charging system it could work while the tractor is running.
@Trailtec4x4 Thank you. I have enough room for batteries and a,big charging system. I just figured no bigger space than I have that it should cool it down pretty good
Two 100w Renogy panels & One Rich Solar Slim 100w to fit next to the fan. Ford had the MaxxAir Fan installed pretty much right in the way of everything so I had to get creative to wrap around it. Renogy Kit amzn.to/3At2Rwm Rich Solar amzn.to/4cFr5RC
It relocates it up under the Ford logo on the grill and works fine. The front bumper sensors however have gone crazy since installing it. The two center sensors move to the bumper and seem to be located away from everything but they constantly go off for no reason or don't go off at all when I know something is there. They had to be rotated 180 to fit back in the bumper so IDK if that's the issue or not.
With the compressor and the fans on high it was 78db right at the vents and about 62 down near the bed. Mostly fan noise once the compressor ramps up. I didn't measure it on lower settings but it's definitely quieter with the fan kicked down. Seems pretty reasonable to me. At least as quiet as the window unit I used in the camper trailer if not better.
As long as it is tied to a large enough battery bank and your charging system can handle the load. I don't think they recommend it at highway speeds though. I think I saw a limit up to 60 or 65 mph.
So far so good. We have only made it out once since I installed it unfortunately but that was two nights with heat index during the day of almost 120 degrees and lows in the 80s and super high humidity. We ran it all night both nights, maybe 20 hours total and it kept us comfortable. We had no hook ups and were in the shade so not much solar and we used about 80% of our 560ah including the fridge and everything else running. I was very happy with that. No way we would have been there without it.
