How is this a prequel, Velma has been white since the 60s? Is she slowly going to turn white, isn't that more racist? It makes no sense and I don't care anymore.
@@paultate5213 Everything nowadays is a redo of the past and they're using the "remake" framework to take something old and butcher it to make it for "modern audiences".
A RU-vidr named Jamie De Jonge has made two storyboard shorts showing how they'd have done scenes in Velma. In them, Velma is not obnoxiously arrogant, and Fred is a nice guy who's a bit oblivious. Considering I can't even sit through videos showing clips of Velma without needing to take 10 second breaks from it, this rewrite is 1000% superior.
Fred is a victim of Jewish hate for characters resembling straight White men. It's just as simple as that. Don't stop at the symptoms. Name those symptoms by their creators. JEWISH.
Holy shit, that court scene with Fred was literally the exact same "joke" from She-Hulk. "The idiot man is exonerated by having the female protag describe all of his humiliating flaws to everyone". Is that the kind of thing these writers spend their time fantasizing about?
@tomcoop9750 yea I mean Adam something explains on YT why toxic masculinity is a good thing now that maybe a bit confusing but he explains why it's like the definition these wokers are saying it is
Mindy is without a doubt the ultimate narcissist with so much insecurities that you wanna feel bad for her... but then yiu see her work and just stop caring.
Ironic, considering a narcissist considers themselves rare and special, but time and time again it's proven with these Hollywood hijackings that they're a dime a dozen.
Seems like she must really hate White men, especially heterosexual ones. Not funny, just pure hatred. If she saw an Indian woman written like she wrote Fred, she would go berserk with rage, for sure.
Hollywood writing is no longer about story telling it's about activism and writers letting their personal insecurities out. Also sometimes their writing leaves you wondering whether they've had any normal human interaction ever in their life. They really need to get outside of that Hollywood bubble sometime. And seriously Mindy, how she keeps getting a job is baffling.
Mindy is 43, but from what I’ve seen she acts like she’s 15 - 20 years younger. I don’t think she ever learned struggle, nor does she have any genuine talent as a writer.
@@KratostheThird she's 43?? I never really paid attention to her or known of her existence in general before this and I thought she was in her early 20's
Now they'll include scoob in the show, not like I'm gonna watch it anyways, and I was never attached to this franchise, although the franchise was fun and entertaining while it lasted.
The problem, they kind of are More like by association Like all the GOOD MCU men, Jack Sparrow and so on Like, you can't watch them anymore, without knowing the shite that is coming
It’s kinda sad when Puss In Boots The Last Wish, an animated family film with a talking cat is more deep and mature than this show that claims to be aimed at adults
I don’t know if it makes you feel better, but the owner of the rights to Back to the Future have said that the trilogy is perfect as is and they wish it not be messed with whether it’s now or 30 years from now… They really want it to remain as is with no added story or characters and I completely agree and hope that their wishes are honored throughout the years…
One of the most obvious changes that has happened to Hollywood over time is the focus of the creators there. It used to be all about the audience, and what they want to see. They understood that a satisfied audience is a profitable audience, so they did everything they could to make us happy. They left themselves behind, and transformed into a new person on screen. But now, its all about ME ME ME. They don't make movies or shows to satisfy their audience anymore. They do it to satisfy their own egos. Actors no longer leave themselves behind, and become another person for their role. They simply put on the clothes of the character, and then continue to act like themselves. Writers no longer try to create heroes that inspire them to become better people. They simply put clones of themselves and their friends into every good guy slot, and caricatures of the people they hate into the bad guy slots. And, of course, they all take every chance they get to scream their superior morals at anyone why will listen. Ego has completely taken over, and its destroying our entertainment and culture.
The fact that this show was a commercial and critical disaster and yet it still got greenlit for a sequel just shows that Hollywood has gotten so comically in denial that people don't want this that it borders on clinically insane.
You know what actually you're right. I also think it's time we stopped financing their sequels with our hate money. For the past 6 years they have been showing us through their announcements, never mind trailers, announcements of these horrendous shows and movies that they are going to be bad. We need to get to a point where we don't need more convincing that they're gonna suck and just don't watch them.
Shows like this are not made to be "enjoyed". Their purpose is not to "entertain" you, as their predecessors were. These shows are made to be spoken about, good OR bad. Thanks to social media, all publicity is good publicity. They make these shows to evoke rage and disgust in people, so that they can flock to social media after watching it and start talking about it. Idiots like Mindy Kaling are just the pawns of the people who pump money into it. They know it will bomb, but it'll grab so many people's attention, and in todays world, attention is money.
This show only cemented my love even more for the live action Scooby Doo movies of the early 2000s. The second one alone is honestly one of the best iterations of the gang ever put on a screen. The cast, monsters, villain and character arcs in that movie all make sense and feel authentic. Fred for example actually struggles being the leader in the film and Daphne struggles with feeling like all she is in the film is a “pretty face”. Both Fred and Daphne admit to each other how they each feel afraid and express how it is okay to be afraid because that is what makes them human. Not only does that make the gang feel more relatable to the audience, but creates character growth at the same time.
Well then if you want to see that recaptured, watch Mystery Incorporated. Daphne doesn't struggle being a "pretty face" but that series has the best version of Fred
As someone who’s childhood consisted out of watching scooby Doo after school when being with my grandma, this feels like a punch in my face. It anyways had a nostalgic feeling to it and seeing this makes me incredibly sad …
No joke, when I saw clips of this show, I actually got pissed. Scooby Doo has been with me ever since Pre-K, when the teacher would put on episodes for us to watch. And ever since I've kept up with each new series (movies have been kind of off and on). And seeing how much they bastardized the characters felt not like a slap to the face, but a boot to the skull. You know what? Scoob may have been out there for a Scooby Doo movie, but at least it kept the characters consistent with how they were in the past, for the most part. In fact, after watching those clips I booted up that movie just to wash my eyes out.
Sad thing is that good animated shows like infinity train got canceled while shows like this get greenlit 💀. What’s even more sad is that it’s been reported that their in the talks of giving this show a second seasons despite both the general audience and critics saying that the show is terrible
it isn't about what is objectively good or not, it's about "the message" and pushing an agenda. repetition is a primitive form of mind control and they believe it will be key to them winning. vote with your attention and tune out their nonsense.
@@hoddtoward8779 most of it was invented. It was one shorter book not a big trilogy like lotr. He wanted to make 2 movies i think. And del toro started directing the trilogy and Jackson took his part so a lot wasn’t his ideas
@@hoddtoward8779 the hobbit is only about 2/3s of one of the LoTR books in length( and is actually pretty kid friendly if you have a young reader in the family) so most of what’s in the movies is stuff not in the book. With shows like this you can see the difference between hate watching a terrible show and a mediocre one, Halo fans hate watch all the halo series because, coming from a halo fan, it isn't bad is just miss opportunities, but with a show like Velma, it's so trash that people watch the first episode and it was so bad that they won't see the next chapters
Velma has to take place in an alternate dimension where the gang is completely different and mostly unlikable. I guess Sun-Spider doesn't have a healing factor, cause if she did she probably wouldn't be wheelchair bound as Spider-Man has even healed from having his eyes removed
And when fans make their spidersona overweight I get the idea to represent themselves as they may also be overweight but Peter went from scrawny to lean muscular after he was bitten so the spidersona being overweight doesn’t work as well.
I remember an episode of Scooby Doo where Shaggy visits his grandmother in the retirement home, and she believes that he's the leader of the gang. Fred allowed him to take the reigns, and in the unmasking, it wasn't Fred nor Velma explaining how everything comes together with the help of clues, but Shaggy does. How in the world the writers thought Fred was an egotistical leader who takes all credit is beyond me.
@Faclonlibrary This is the most braindead response, lol. He drives the van because it's his f@#$ing van. He owns the van because he's pretty well off. He tends to lead the group, not only because he provides resources (like the van), but because he has intellect almost as good as Velmas, and people skills almost as good as Shaggy or Daphne, and generally, jacks of all trades tend to make the best leaders (speaking as someone who has suffered through many sh@t leaders and a handful of rare great leaders in the USAF). Wtf even is your argument here? That because he drives the van, he's the leader of the group, and leaders are inherently egotistical? Bad leaders certainly are, and there's plenty of those to go around. Good leaders ditch egotism in favor of mentorship, and deference to a subordinates skillset, which Fred does CONSTANTLY. Despite all that, wanna know why he drives the van? Because it's his f@#$ing van. I got my own mystery wagon IRL, lol. It's an L300 cabover van I imported from Japan through the military (meaning it's somewhat irreplacable at the price I originally got it for). Wanna know what I'm not doing? Letting others drive it. Putting others on my insurance for it. It's my van, I paid it off, and it's a rare import, I think that's fair. I've also got my own Shaggy, lol. I'm sure as sh@t not letting my stoner friend John drive it. I love the guy to death, he's really smart on a lot of topics, we go camping a lot, and I fully intend on taking him on all manner of offroad adventures when my van build is done... But he's also high 24/7, doesnt have car insurance, and has a driving record so bad, I'm surprised the state hasnt permanently revoked his license. Doesnt mean I'm a d@ck to him, I've helped him rebuild parts of his ratty old car, both financially, and with my mechanical experience from working on jet engines. Even helped him camperize it to save on rent when he was struggling. And he's taught me a lot about woodworking in return. Literally, what argument are you trying to make? I'm basically LITERALLY in Fred's position, and I dont want my friends driving my van when we go out on adventures (cept if it's some weird emergency). Has nothing to do with egotism, and everything to do with the fact that if anybody's going to destroy MY vehicle, it's going to be ME, and I think that's fair, given I'm the only one who has any money in it. It's fair to them too, because it protects them from the liability of wrecking an expensive vehicle.
I was actually laughing along when you mentioned that they took a fan made alternate Spiderman and altered it into a long island iced tea of pandering to the modern audience. But man, Hollywood has just become a depressing dumpster fire...
I'm literally a gay man and I'm so fucking sick of gay relationships being tacked onto everything in the most preachy way possible, it's just embarrassing
16:18 I just got reminded of this: "Spiderman, Spiderman, Paraplegic Spiderman. Can he stand? No he can't. He's paralyzed from the waist down. Look out! He can't feel his legs." Ironically enough, that came from a vr comedy sketch with Juicy, Joshdub, Mully, Narrator, and Eddie with Juicy being the one singing the song.
Okay, I'm so, so glad that there is someone like you talking about this struggle openly. Everytime I'm trying to do so, all those rainbow-cult people comes at me like flies and my content is actually deleted. "Different opinions are okay, as long as they're different in the same way". Please, don't stop making vids. It's literally music for my ears hearing this. Also, when I say the same thing as you, they can't whitemale me, so I'm pick me girl, instantly. :)
If he’s afraid of ghost and monsters, he’s not exactly empty headed, because the amount of fear we see shaggy display all throughout the Scooby-Doo franchise, requires a level of self-awareness that potheads in our own world don’t even possess
Ehhh. I'm a stoner and I'll be real, you wouldn't catch me in almost any location where I thought ghosts and monsters were, unless that spot is my current residence and that's due to lack of choice. I can maybe tolerate a ghost, I'm certainly not going to tolerate Scooby-Doo style ghosts and monsters since those are humans in costumes most of the time. So nah, potheads tend to have enough awareness to not get involved with that sort of mess. Just wanna enjoy our high, not be in terror of some ghost or something.
I absolutely loved watching the behind the scenes of the lotr and seeing Peter Jackson and the crew talking about there love for lotr and wanted to keep true to the books, you could see the passion they all had it was amazing
My problem isn't the race change, the two mothers, the sexuality changes, do I like those changes? No, I don't, but I can tolerate them. My problem is that these aren't the same characters, Fred isn't a complete idiot, Velma isn't a complete asshole, I can't remember what they did with Daphne, and Shaggy and Scooby aren't even in the show, Norville or whatever his name is a complete different character and a worse one at that.
This!! The race thing i can get over, sexuality stuff whatever, not really hurting anyone. But it's just not scooby doo, it doesnt have scooby doo in it. Changing the characters completely is disrespectful to us long time scooby doo fans, maybe it'd be better if they were actually _good_ changes but at that point just keep it a different show..
one thing that kinda bothers me is that nobody ever ridicules or criticizes Fred's PARENTS, the ones who neglected to raise Fred properly. Like yeah, he should've figured the cutting thing on his own, and I hate that's the only reason he's found innocent. His parents coddled him and spoiled him, but they aren't affected, it's Fred. Fred gets humiliated and constantly bodyshamed and he's only 15-17. That's honestly disgusting.
Mindy Kaling's c.v.: Father is a well-known architect, mother was a successful doctor Grew up in the rich area of Cambridge, Massachusetts Graduate Darmouth College (Ivy League) with a degree in playwriting (they have degrees in that?) Immediately went to work in show business--never waitressed, never did housekeeping, never did an honest day's work in her life, just went from a rich suburb to a rich kids' school to a rich kids' idea of a job And she can't write characters that are real, funny, and relatable? Who could have seen that coming?
Yea they have degrees in playwriting. Because not everyone can do it, and you need to learn how to. Learning the structure of how plays work, though, doesn’t give you the creative know-how to actually write your own compelling works. Likely it wasn’t a cut program and she wasn’t a standout in any of her classes.
I LOATHE it when these celebrities who were fed with silver spoons from the start grow up and make content to try and lecture us ‘poor people’ up in their LA bubble on things they know nothing about!
Now multiply this many times over and you see the same thing happening in Silicon Valley. Imagine going to work dominated by SEA's and they are all racists holding on to a CASTE system. Now trying being a real POC and entering into the workforce. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Unqualified people in management positions.
Seeing this makes sense as to what the hell is wrong with these things, just about everything about Velma is tone deaf and has almost no ambition or drive to be special.
As an LGBT person, I genuinely hate when creators have to rewrite already established and popular characters instead of creating new shows and characters. Not only is it insanely lazy and bad writing, it's unnecessarily preachy and takes away the nostalgia and enjoyment of what these shows once were. Not everything has to have every single minority shoehorned in for virtue-signalling tokenism. Scooby Doo was literally never problematic or outdated anyway. If Mindy Kaling actually cared about minorities, then she would create a new show to give us our own representation instead of tacking us on to old characters because wokeism.
As a south asian, LITERALLY the reputation just seems so forced and I feel like its going to do more damage in the long run no matter if u are poc and/or lgbtq+
Honestly the different demographic changes with original writers of mystery inc would have worked a lot better than everyone stays the same designs but Fred is a rich douche fail son, shaggy is a nice guy, and Velma is like Daria but like without any internal consistency. If you had shaggy black, Velma Indian, Daphne Asian, and the heart of the characters was still there most everyone would be fine with it except those closer to the right.
Fr, even if they wanted to make Velma bisexual why flaunt it so much and say "looks she's bisexual" every 5 seconds? Scooby doo isn't a romance show, sexuality has 0 lore impact. Just stop forcing romance into non romance shows in general
A little correction at 13:19 it didn't have the biggest debut becuase people wanted to see it, it was becuase they canceled every other adult cartoon to make it seem that way
From what I remember from the original cartoon, Shaggy was NEVER a stoner nor stupid. He may not want to do mysteries all the time, he gets scared alot (but he's NO coward), he may not have ALL the same interests as his other human friends but he's a good guy and he LOVES food.
Velma had the biggest viewing for a animated series on HBO max because it's currently the ONLY animated series on HBO max. They cancled all their others
I don't know how I didn't notice this. Fred calls the fork a "Dinglehopper"... They just made a Disney's Little Mermaid reference, when Ariel takes the fork to the seagull guy. They made a LITTLE MERMAID reference in this show. How did this happen? 5:53 for the time stamp.
It honestly feels like somebody on staff was actually competent and was trying to save the show, but got blocked at most opportunities. Which would explain why about 30% of the jokes are utterly based, but instantly dismissed by the characters.
Your losing your shit and just letting loose with the laughter near the end cracked me up so bad!!!🤣😅😄😂 Well done and said, young man!!!! You just may have earned a new subscriber today.?!
Everyone is feeding right into exactly what this show wanted. Rage bait is the new trend, and we are all falling right into the trap. Best thing we can do is not watch, nor talk about it. But it's like a car accident, we can't help ourselves from rubbernecking.
@@Queerlien Yep. They want us to hate it so they can then say "oh you don't like it because you are _______ !! "... fill in the blank with trigger words.

EXECUTIVE 2: And get dragged on social media for being racist, misogynistic, and homophobic? No, thanks, I've got two alimonies to pay and a couple of mansions to maintain. Let's greenlight this sucker ASAP! And now you know what lies behind "wokeness": it's a way for untalented people like Kaling to weaponize their "otherness" to get a power they can't possibly obtain by being good at their jobs.
What I really hate about ROP is that the writers despise everything Tolkien loved, tradition, duty, honor, God, etc. He was a devout Catholic and you can see those themes in his works. They despise him, but they plundered and twisted his world for their own purposes and it just disgusts me
That's exactly how I feel about wheel of time. The writers despised the beliefs that Jordan wove into his literature and they wrote the show accordingly. From the moment they did interviews and announced castings, it was clear as day. They were actively twisting the worldbuilding, cultures, characterization, romance, magic and history because it didn't fit with their political opinions. Jordan was incredibly meticulous with his details, everything was clear as day, yet they made little if any effort to be faithful, instead gaslighting any criticism. They took a beloved epic fantasy series and corrupted it, all because this fictional world didn't perfectly align with their modern day progressive political values. The books are a lovely experience of escapism that anyone could enjoy, and what we got from Amazon was another culture war battleground. All because the writers were utterly incapable of keeping it in their pants politically. I can't think of anything more tarnished by woke garbage than wheel of time. It is a textbook example of the cancer that permeates so much entertainment. God of War has the same showrunner, so I can imagine how that show will end up.
@@lordphill807 They already ruined the franchise with Ragnarok. Won’t bother to waste my time on any more future projects on the series. I won’t watch that HBO Last of Us either.
I grew up with Scooby Doo. So did my dad. He’s the one that introduced it to my brother and me. This show feels like a slap to the face. Screw HBO and everyone who is involved.
Normally, when I’m creating a character, I don’t use myself as a template because I don’t see myself as protagonist material, especially not the likable type of protagonist
I get a kick out of the fact that if any of my writings get published people will spot a character I make, assume they're a self insert of mine because they have the same initials, only to watch them die horribly or have terrible lives in pretty much every story I write. Especially since they only have my initials because I forgot what they were originally called and decided to make it a little easter egg in my works.
There's nothing wrong with having pieces of yourself in your art, especially if those pieces are endearing. But there is a difference between self insert egocentrism and exploring familiar aspects of oneself.
Velma (the show, not the original charatcer) wants to be Daria without realizing why the character actually works. Creating a misanthropic pessimist takes a level of care and skill which modern writers who engage in vanity projects like this simply don’t have. You can only write characters with equal or less intelligence and emotional experience. These vanity projects are spiritually bankrupt because of this. We’re watching the bullied kids in school 20 years ago write fiction in the present.
Seriously, Daria was genuinely witty, and surrounded mostly by memorable idiots she could get away with lobbing subtle jabs at. Kaling's Velma is just _nasty._
The thing also with Daria was that she wasn't always 100% in the right, and even tempted by the attention she got when people found her attractive. She's a person, not a vile mouthpiece (and I pray the reboot I heard whispers about don't get made).
At least Scooby was spared from suffering this level of desecration, thank goodness for that. I swear, if the writers decided to include him they would’ve probably made him into a chihuahua with all the Mexican stereotypes. Like, instead of asking for Scooby Snacks he’d be demanding tacos and shots of tequila. Scooby nearly got his souls ripped out in the live-action movie and that wouldn’t even compare to the massacre he would’ve gotten if he was in the Velma series.
I literally got an ad for “rings of power” right when you described how bad it is. This is one of the problems! they just don’t know how to market a movie or series anymore.
It seems like as technology gets better, creativity and originality gets worse. It’s like people are scared to swing for the fences and actually try anymore. And if it is an original idea, a lot of these modern ideas get slapped onto iconic and recognizable IPs to take advantage of people’s nostalgia. Thanks for making this video.
@momotigomo Don't compare modern family guy with that garbage. Modern family guy is bland as hell yet it's still miles better than that self insert trash.
@@momotigomo Modern Family was a very deliberate and skillful work of globalist propaganda. It wasn't on HBO. It was on primetime network TV, but they pushed as far as they could, and it was pretty far, while still sneaking in under the radars of most Americans.

I said it once and I'll say it again: HBO Velma embodies everything that's wrong with modern media these days and how the lack of love behind the creative process results in a lack of quality. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Scooby-Doo fan. This series comes across as a huge middle finger in a way that not only disrespects the fans, but also the creators of the franchise itself. I admit that I create parody pieces too, but even my parodies and satires have love behind them. I don't write them to spite or humiliate anyone. The most I do is that I try to make you stop and think after reading my webcomics. I NEVER spite. PS: I'm also ok with Velma (the real one) being a lesbian because the true version of her is still likable, smart and her character is fun.
Change characters races and sexuality its not an actual problem If you do It properly. The problem its that Velma use this like a shield for criticism of the show bc its not funny or even play with the adult aspect unless is sexual jokes and cussing
Was not she one already in Mystery Incorperated TV show? But you know, it didn't matter since she was an ENJOYABLE CHARACTER and the show was very subtle about it, to the point of it being your headcanon anyway-at least from what I remember.

@@luana9868 nah its usually always a problem. People have a tendency to always gravity towards what looks familiar. But ya sometimes like with Nick Fury you can race swap make them look completely different and a lot of people like him better in the end but it tends to be rare with no exact formula to get people past the image of a character they already have in their minds.
@@luana9868 eh you know even in the movies in no version do you see her interested in any man or woman. She's often times awkward and in her own little world so her being lesbian seems not only likely but her sexuality was never explored because no cared to know what anyone's sexuality even was. You pretty much knew Fred and Daphne were together and nothing else to which no one even asked if shaggy was into anyone or Velma or Scooby. If they never answered we still would have never asked. Scooby Doo was not a hook up show
On the point of Rings of Power....the original LOTR already had strong female characters who were respected and powerful in their own right. Galadriel held power not as a warrior, but a mighty ruler, and she wasn't flawless either, she was tempted by the power of the ring (in one of the most terrifying scenes ever seen on film, no less). Arwen was instrumental to the success of the Fellowship, as her knowledge of elven magics saved the life of Frodo, and she was a capable fighter in her own right. She also made the conscious choice to sacrifice her own immortality to stay with the man she loved, and in the process united men and elves as a just and noble queen. And let's not forget Éowyn, who with the assistance of Merry the Hobbit, _stabbed the Witch King of Angmar in the goddamn face._
Couldn’t have put it better myself. Rings of Power Galadriel was a stubborn, headstrong and arrogant child. LOTR Galadriel was ethereal, mysterious, warm, maternal and played to perfection by Cate Blanchett.
Part of the problem is that Hollywood execs treat movie making like a check list and part of that list includes using established IPs for name brand recognition. Combine this with people who have no talent and are general angry at everything including the IPs they are forced to work on because execs want name recognition.
Watching youtubers make fun of modern entertainment is 100x more entertaining than the products themselves. And as a bonus I don't give them my views so it's a win-win for me.
Mindy apparently wrote this as a mean spirited tantrum highlighting her own insecurities under the guise of some ultra big brain postmodernist critique
Hey, remember Mystery Incorperated? Funny but serious, self aware etc. Had an engaging and overarching plot that was not afraid to get dark. Didn't bash political agenda and was just pure fun. Had an actual ORIGIN STORY FOR THE GANG, THAT MADE SENSE!
The lucky thing is Robert Zemeckis refuses to sell the rights to Back to the future, he is pleased with his trilogy and has seen how reviving old franchises gets massacred by Hollywood. He has gotten several offers but refused them all, knowing it will only ruin his legacy.
