agreed. I think they cut a lot of the worst jokes and left us with just bad and unfunny ones instead of ones that make you want to jump off a cliff. And also Norville became kinda funny + Fred still carries 90% of the funny jokes

Harry potter isnt the only thing that did that (especially for witches) but it definitely contributed to that belief that witches are only female.

Harry Potter if anything it introduced was the idea of children being wizards and normalised witch as being a neutral term. Witch was historically not as gendered as wizard but still it most certainly is a female associated term and historically a pejorative coming from the practitioners of Wicca. Wicked also comes from this and is a negative association. Historically during times of Christian persecution witch may have applied to men in some cases, but since the Wizard of Oz, in 1900 witch has been a female term.

I believe the male term for witch is warlock. Wizard though, I’ve never thought about it.

@@Prancer3301 In fiction, I think wizard is a generic word describing a person who practices magic (how ever that is defined) while witches and warlocks specifically practice a dark magic as a result of communing with devils or malevolent spirits.

@@MakDivision I wasn't trying to imply that that they do so its just that the character is introduced as non-binary but that they are non-binary has no meaning or impact on the character literally beyond that they use they/them pronouns. It like a character attribute that is just there to be there it doesn't inform the character at all in any meaningful way which sort of defeats the purpose of representation because they're not really representing anything about being non-binary. Its like how Norvillve being mixed race never meaningfully informs his character either beyond lazy punchlines and Amber doesn't even get that much.
