Hello i just bought a 1992 ski nautique with 351 and pcm-40 transmission 1:23/1 ratio. Transmission seems to be engaged in gear and cant get it to go i to neutral. I haven't had the boat in the water yet doing work to it and it sat for a long time vut tranny dip stick has clean fluid and doesnt smell burnt. Any clue what the deal is or and pointers would be great thanks

Could these scratches cause the shifter to be stiff when moving between F-N-R?

Yes especially when the transmission heats up

How much do you charge for rebuild on these? Recent lost reverse in the middle of our last lake day

I have a 10-17-004 with low pressure at all times. (75psi neutral, 60psi reverse, 60psi forward) at idle. I have slight scratching on my selector valve just like this one. Could that cause a loss of pressure? Thanks for your time!

If you have scratches on the Selector Valve the bore will scratches also. Hone out the bore and replace the the Selector Valve. If the bore doesn't smooth out than it's time for a replacement transmission.

HaleMarine could scratches between the two ports like in your videos cause low pressure in neutral as well? I only have scratches between the two ports just like this video.

The other place that might cause low pressure is where the output shaft goes through the Case housing. Sealing rings or the case itself could be wore

I have a 71c. What would cause my Trans to build enough pressure to blow the dipstick out? Mine blew out tonight so hard that it sounded like a gunshot when it hit the dog box. Rebuilt it last summer and until this happened it hasn't gave me any trouble.

The vent or an overheating issue. Maybe fluid level is possibility?
@andyburris4717
@andyburris4717 Год назад
@@halemarine5991 is there anyway I could send you a picture of the Trans fluid? I don't see any metal shavings in it, but it looks like may have water in it. So maybe Trans cooler is cracked? Not sure how it would have got cracked it's brand new and I drained it when I winterized the boat

If the transmission fluid is pink it has water in it
@andyburris4717
@andyburris4717 Год назад
@@halemarine5991 it's not really pink but it's not exactly red either. It's almost like a purple color. Ive seen water in Trans fluid before but never seen it look like this. Possibly burnt?
@halemarine5991

Overheating will cause a darkness to the red transmission fluid

Hi im from Ireland i have two borg warner boxes .I dont have tags near gear leaver but model numbers on the bottom side of each .10-05-065-901 this has a 15 degree v box attached .Can you tell from that number what the ratio is .The second box has no tag either and the number is 10-04-065-905 and im hoping you can tell me the ratios of each by the details shown.Happy Xmas to all and stay safe .
@halemarine5991
@halemarine5991 3 года назад
The casing numbers mean nothing to me. The only way to check the ratio is toddler the Vdrive from the transmission section and spin the input shaft, counting how times the output turns.

@@halemarine5991 Thank you .Im a shipwright and not a mechanical engineer .Could i ask you if i turn it by hand will it be good enough or do i need to get it up to 40 cycles ? minute as some guy mentioned to me .But no one is sure.Again Have a peaceful and joyus christmas to you and all of your family and friends .Keep safe and we will see this thing off soon .

@@brotherdom1 Hello again. Use a large electric drill. Thid will give you the RPM needed to apply the clutch plates. The cooling lines need to be connected and fluid in the transmission. Merry Christmas to you as well!
