Wanted to see the curry machine in action ever since I watched it on great big story

There’s a super cool video by Great Big Story on the curry rice vending machine! The owner is a rice farmer & he grows/cooks his own rice. He’s very passionate & has been running the machine for 40+ years now, it’s nice to see it’s still going good!

Vending machines, hooray! I think I agree with Satoshi--the Bon Curry and shaved ice looked best to me. But, I guess, having some good dishes and some not so good dishes is part of the adventure. 😊Thank you guys!

Nothing new York about that sandwich. Only thing I can think of is its inspired by the street gyros from halal carts in NYC. Fluffy flat bread, chicken, sauce

What i miss and love about japan is seeing vending machines everywhere in the streets, even in neighborhoods

I literally just made a comment on Shinichi's other channel talking about how I wanted to see the kakigōri machine! It's like content on demand, lol 😆

it really kills me how much better the vending machines are in japan. There, you can get a pretty decent meal out of them. here, you could get...chips, candy, or...probably food poisoning if you trusted one to give you a hot meal.

Perhaps, the "New York" sandwich was supposed to be a "Buffalo chicken" sandwich but they didn't know how to translate it?

If you want a shaved ice in Los Angeles in some Mexican venues or parts of town, their called “Raspados” and the raspados gave juices made from real fresh fruit on the shaved ice. I never had the Japanese version of a raspado, but I believe the Mexican kind are the best in the world. You should try when the next time you get a chance to come over to East Los Angeles.

I wish America had Japanese food vending machines like you guys. Maybe then we'd be healthier as a nation. Lol. Everything looked so good.

10:34 the machine had a heater and I believe it was made before microwaves were a thing! And the rice was precooked as well as the curry before it was inserted into the machine!

Yeah. We were so amazed by how the machine works for different food...even the coffee machine was amazing to watch the processing. Japan technology is soo so. Creative in their mechanical ideas. Smart and convenient.

A couple days ago, I tried to cook this kind of curry with a golden curry bar, fresh vegetables and beef. It was super delicious 💕

I love the way you guys keep such an open mind when reviewing food. It would be easy to say something like "oh, this is so gross!" But you guys are very respectful and always try and stay positive (or at least as much as possible haha)

Vending machines are becoming so advanced soon we'll have vending machines that vend vending machines.

The kakigori is more like the old school kind like what Hawaiian shaved ice are still like these days. The more modern Japanese ones have that snow like feathery shaved ice. I prefer the newer ones!

That curry looks so good, I cry every time I see people mention that vending machine hahahaha I want it so bad!

LOL. That “New York” sandwich is as much New York as Spaghetti-O’s is as much Italian. Lost in translation I guess. Try a pastrami on rye with thousand island dressing and coleslaw. Amazing.

Ok, I might actually have an answer for the New York sandwich- most of the time at halal carts, instead of calling it a "falafel pita," it's called a "falafel sandwich," but still served in a pita. The inside filling of the sandwich is 100% Japanese, but maybe that's where they got the name from?

this may sound crazy but the best tasting hot dog I ever got was from a Japan vending machine in the country side of Tokyo

If you have to shake but you open it already, place your thumb to cover the opening then shake. Those exotic drinks are so good, especially the guava.

Maybe "New York" because there are so many Gyro carts, and the Gyro comes in pita bread?

The very first time that I discovered TabiEats over 3 years ago, you boys showed us some amazing vending machine foods. I remember the hamburger and hot dog looked really good, and I was shocked at the quality of food for having been housed in a machine. :) For me, these vending machine videos makes me feel so natsukashii, and makes me so grateful for you both and your amazing travel/food videos throughout the years. Hontoni Domo Arigatou, ne!! Okay, that NY sandwich looked interesting. I'm sorry that it wasn't very good. Zannendeshita ne! The vending machine miso soup looked good, and that bone kare.... WOW! I may have to make some kare for my boys for dinner tonight. :) OMG! Hahaha! Yakiniku dog food..... brother, you literally made me laugh out loud when you said that!! I'm so sorry that the canned Yoshinoya wasn't very good--especially for the price, and I'm truly sorry that you didn't get your taiyaki. :( As always boys, thank you for sharing!!

What I have sometimes heard called a New Yorker Sandwich in the U.K. is pastrami, cheese, gherkins and then condiments and maybe lettuce or something. I doubt it’s what real New Yorkers eat everyday but it’s interesting to see something totally different with the same name.

I don’t know why but I like eating from vending machines.

New Yorker here! I cannot tell you why that sandwich is named after us, but I have a guess. Where I live there is a high concentration of Italians, so you will find a lot of Italian and Italian American food, the closest I think you'll get with any regularity is a chicken parmesan sandwich. It's made with fried chicken cutlets, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. That's the only thing that comes to mind when I see a fried chicken, sauce, and cheese sandwich. Maybe someone else can chime in if they have another idea.

ISN'T THAT THE CURRY FROM THE GREAT BIG STORY??? I've always wanted to try that vending machine since seeing that video all those years ago. I wonder if the rice farmer is still alive, and cooking the rice every morning himself

New York does a lot of deli sandwiches. Maybe that could be why its called NY" sandwich".

For reference if you fail to shake up your drink get either a straw or take a big sip then shake.

The curry rice was featured on a youtube videos as the rice is super fresh and is quite popular among truck drivers.

If the pita hadn't been a bit mushy I think that sando would've been the most appealing to me. Miso on a cold day is the best comfort food ever and I like the look of the curry!

I think that the logic behind the "New Yorker Sandwich" is that it's kinda (and I mean, only kinda) like one of the shawarma pita sandwiches you can get from street vendors in just about every corner in downtown Manhattan...

8:54 In NYC, you can get *anything* cheap, fast, and filling. Don't expect the "best" though. Generally, we tend to promote the "better" shops (aka. better flavour, efficient staff, commutable nature).

I think they rotate these machine to give varieties throughout the year.

But things here in America where I live things are not so fresh~ They are "fresh" from a gas station, but bleh~ still tasty, but maybe stale, and processed..... I wish we had food like you have in a gas station

Man, that expression of the guy on the curry vending machine...is well...umm...a bit creepy to say the least...LOL He must REALLY REALLY like the curry there! Well, either that or he's absolutely terrified of the curry. Awesome video, always love watching you guys trying out the vending machines at places like this! All the retro machines, make it like a little trip through time. I'm glad that whoever runs/owns this place took the time to maintain and make them available like this. I can't be easy to keep them running and working right all the time, probably even harder to find the right food/drinks that used to go in them. I also it's pretty amazing that they such a wide variety of the machines, and that they actually switch them out according to the season.

there is a lot of food trucks in nyc(that are greek) and it is reminiscent of a gyro with lamb or whatever protein. actually astoria queens is a well known area that is traditionally greek. ask merry christmas she is half greek lives in nyc.

I am from NY and have no clue about the sandwich lol I would love to know as well. Buffalo chicken is the closest thing we have . Usually has cheese and mayo so that might be it.

The engine turning over in the background during the kakigori machine, I really thought was coming from that machine.

For some reason even though I have eaten loads of gyudon I have only ever eaten at Sukiya, which is awesome but some day I will find a yoshinoya to compare it. Being a 6’ westerner I always get like 3 portions, usually one large, one normal and one portion just meat lol, that’s a decent dinner meal. Just add meat to the two with rice, add pickled ginger and some sichimi and mix, and tuck in = bliss :-).
