I play Vendreads. They're pretty good as a Link and Synchro deck and their Ritual spells are honestly one of the best, as all of them can Ritual summon from the graveyard. One under-appreciated feature that both Slayer and Battlelord have effects in which they can search *any* Ritual monster and *any* Ritual spell card; you can build creative decks that way. Their main issue is you have to special summon their main deck monsters onto the field, which often costs resources from the gy. One card that I don't see played with Vendreads is Lich Lord, King of the Underworld, whose effect is not limited to a once per turn, which provides Vendreads tribute fodder. Zombie World also helps a lot (you can banish Diviner and Herald of the Arc Light). I think the biggest issue with Vendreads is the Rituals have lackluster effects when on the field. Sure, Revendread prevents targeting and Chimera (often considered the worst of the Rituals) offers protection, but if you didn't use the Vendread main deck monsters as field tributes, you are often left without the ability to interact during your opponent's turn. One solution is to have either a Vendread Ritual Monster *or* Vendread Continuous Spell that allows you to banish your opponent's zombie monsters from their graveyard instead of your own. This will allow Vendreads to be a pseudo Bystials, and be balanced out by the fact you have to run Zombie World, which is vulnerable to removal.

I actually play these guys on a pretty religious basis, both in TCG and in MD, and honestly I think they are one of the best non-competitive deck since they don’t run out of gas easily at all unless you just get a bad start. But if you wanted to make these guys a competitive there I think all that would be needed is a MD monster that gives the effect to make the monster ritual summoned with it immune to card destruction. They already have very consistent ways to get 10k+ dmg on the field, great ritual spells, a board wipe trap, Vendread Reorigin, and a great link monster. Now they just need that little push that’ll make them at least tier 3

I would say that the last support helped vendreads a lot, being able to make an untargetable, banish 1 monster and 1 s/t executor is much easier now. The problem is still that this deck lacks swarming, which is weird for a zombie deck, and that its kinda slow. This is a deck that can see some really good amount of play in duel links, even without skills specific for the deck, if only konami adds the bew support. Heck, they could even make a skill that allows the rituals to gain the monster effects from anywhere, not just the field. Its kinda like how triamids has a deck that flows well, but then theres the trap that banishes the cards instead of shuffling them into the deck for whatever reason.

After watching i can safely say I don't think you've really taken an actual look at the archetype, at least not close enough to realize that it's currently not difficult to get hound and revenant effects stuck on a slayer with just archetypal cards and you also didn't really examine anything with the generic support like uni-zombie which nets you baronne on summon 3 + slayer with hound and revenants effect
@chaosbug7
@chaosbug7 8 месяцев назад
This is definitely a case of Konami being too afraid to give Vendread strong support because of the zombie toolbox. Being forced to have the material on the field to give otherwise mediocre Ritual monsters halfway decent effects really forces this archetype to jump through so many hurdles when a normal deck can do better off of 1-2 card combos. Vendread is a really cool theme, but is definitely lacking compared to other archetypes

You should cover Dark Magician. It really only sees use as a side deck option (as a meme), has over 15 cards to support it but a pure deck doesn't necessarily place or place consistently in really any format. Targeted banish doesn't do much when most cards have protection from targeting and a number of archetypes use banish as a means of floating/ banish doesn't do anything against them and just about the same number of archetypes/ cards make use of nontargeting banish (ex. Metaphys Daedelus & Evenly Matched). Eternal Soul literally kills your Dark magician monsters. The archetype could be rogue but let's be honest, people playing it is playing it to meme. This should be covered

It's so frustrating that Vendread have so many unnecessary restrictions, that only exist to bloat the cards and make them worse than their contemporary decks. But with Vendread should have come a ruling change. Ritual spells say Equal or Exceed the level of a monster but that's NOT WHAT IT DOES it actually means: Equal but can exceed unless the extra levels are not needed. To this day you can't 7 lv1 monsters to summon a lv6 even though logically you should be allowed to. Also also every Vendread monster should have been lv3 it would have solved so many issues as long as they had nothing to do with exact levels since you would gain access to a certain rank 3 that recycles banished cards.
@yuno4573
@yuno4573 8 месяцев назад
Honestly, the one change that would fix the deck and make it competitive is just make main decks that are starters (similar to diviner or aluber). I've played the deck religiously in MD and it combos fine, but no summonable starters to add consistency is why the deck suffers, it's just basic deck design. Vendread practically just copied what some xyz decks do (hence the on the field restriction), but fails because no starters. TLDR: Vendread has no starters, just give it starters and the deck is fixed.

Ritual spell cards need to be beefed up with lingering effects or more graveyard effects. It eats up a spell card slot and its usually dead weight if its just sitting in your hand. We have pendulums so it wouldnt surprise me if we get Spell/Trap hybrid cards in the future. Vandread Contamination Ritual Spell/Trap Its gonna get ugly as sin because Pendulums are pretty ugly imo.

I'm curious as to if Vendreads would have been good or even a decent rogue option if it had come out a format or two earlier. A lot of these failed archetypes probably would have been strong if they had come out earlier than they had been. For all we know, this one could have been great if it came out with the first wave of Link Monsters. The banish effect could stop early Link Climbing, and popping spells and traps would have probably been a good call to hinder the enemy if they were playing something like Mirror Force to deal with Links. It's just a shame that Vendreads have such an uphill battle going for them. It's appropriate, given the story of the archetype, but just making the main deck monsters restricted to only passing on those effects to Vendread Ritual Monsters probably would have been more than enough of a restriction to allow their effects to be passed on. Maybe this deck could be fixed with a new field spell that recurs the banished Vendreads for constant recycling, and maybe adding in some level manipulation so that they can be more effective in actually ritual summoning the cards. But hey. At least the Vendreads are powerful in Master Duel's N/R format. That's gotta account for something.

Scar of the vendread doesnt banish itself, it always comes back and counts all tributes made. The ritual however does banish itself. But yeah vendreads should lose the "on the field" or just dont banish itself to be actually good and simulate the unstopabble zombie horde that it tries to do. The main issue with this archetype is that the materials need to be on the field to give the extra effects. Sure Mezuki, Book of Life, etc facilitate that a bit but it’s still super clunky. They need to either errata the cards or make retrains that grant the effects when they’re used as material regardless of where they are. Still using Vendread in Master Duel, and it's still good enough even before Ravenous and Scar was released. Revendread Evolution was great, even if it pop your ritual at the end phase, the point is just to put your Slayer or Battlelord on the field, so you can link them into Savior and triggered their grave effect. Or even better, if you open with Diviner of Herald, you can Synchro Slayer and Diviner into Ultimaya. Though the deck release time was terrible. Their initial release is during the era where things like Gouki U-Link, Summon Sorceress, and Firewall Loop exist, and three years later when it released the last support, the deck can only be 'Decently playable' because the game already evolved so far.

I LOVE the Idea of a "Build your own Boss Monster" Playstyle (One of the many reasons I want to get into the Current Digimon TCG), but To see it Executed so Sloppily just hurts man. Zombies are also one of my top favorite Monster types in Yugioh (Only Being beaten out by Machines) due to just how powerful their Graveyard abuse is compared to other Monster types. Really, it's just frustrating that the Vandread Non Rituals only grant their inherited effects to their Boss Monsters when used as Material from the Field, yet the Archetype itself has little to no Swarming Potential that isn't reliant on Generic Zombie Support. It's telling when the only Vandread to see play in General Zombie Decks is the Link 2 that Weakens whatever it battles while also Burying a Zombie (Which is especially good if using the High level Zombies like Alghoul Mazera, Balerdroch and Eldlich) and otherwise has nothing to do with Vandread's intended playstyle.

Slayer has to start off weak (2400 ATK) as to implement the gaining power from battling and inherentance effects but that does not suit the fast paced game. Are all these hoops really worth jumping through compared to playing any other OTK Deck?

Why do i now want this deck. I like the story and the designs. I think i have ideas on trying to make a minor fix for them but id need time to make a plan on it.

Vendreads frustrate me. Bar none they’re some of my favorite aesthetically, and having the tragedy of Slayer’s burning hatred of the Vendread preventing him from being turned fully, only to have to kill the controlled corpse of his lover: perfect. But I swear Konami must have a fetish for cucking this poor hero. Well, here’s hoping Scar of the Vendread opens up some more room for the lore, and I pray to whatever deity may be out there the next wave doesn’t suck.

I miss the 5D's era where Plants+Zombies was a very exciting deck to play. Right now if I'll ever be playing zombies, I'll be using Eldlich stun. A bit less exciting, but still the safest.

Omg no wonder my vendreads don't have additional effects. They have to be on the FIELD to give additional effects? So in addtion to needing the ritual monster, the ritual spell and tributes, you additionally need to spend normal summons to get them on the field. Whyyyy. They're nigh unplayable them wtf.
@Bezaliel13

They probably figured being Zombies would balance the "on the field" drawback. Personally, I prefer it when Konami remembers to balance out cards. Pity they tend to overdur it *when the remember* though.

Vendread wasn’t good because it was a zombie archetype. Any zombie cards made after like 2007 had to be over restricted by Konami. Konami not only made these cards effects have to work on field unlike djinn which came out before them but they had different levels so you could have multiple in hand or field and still not be able to ritual summon.

I got my first “King of Games” rank in Duel Links using Vendreads. I’ll be the one to tell you, the archetype is strong once you know how to use it but I’ll be honest. It really is lacking. I love Vendreads.

....It may not be much but Vendreads managed to stand-in for eldlich's absence in the event. Funny how battlelord stomps Avramax spams when vampire tribute is out of question.

In my head cannon, at the end of his story, the now Avendread Savior and his actions of saving the city had caught the attention of the HEROES and are actively trying to recruit him to their team. Perhaps we'll see a HERO version of Avendread Savior?

Considering how it seems like every really bad archetype has 1 or 2 generic cards that are so incredibly powerful that they are used in everything except that deck, it shows you just how meh Vendread was. It wasn't bad enough for them to get a generic card that can flip the meta but it wasn't good enough to really go anywhere without major support or changes in the future.

How to fix vendread? Make them more like nekroz, i mean seriously ritual summoning needs some love, megalith + nekroz + impcantation + vendread or cyber angel if konami combined these mechanics i'm sure people will like it, and i think nekroz now can be unbanned it's not as menacing in the current meta imo just don't release djinn is all that matters

What i find strange is that there are a bunch of cards that treat their names as "Revendread Slayer", yet no Revendread cards specifically give monsters with that name any special benefit. With Ancient Gears you have a bunch of incentives to run several Ancient Gear Golems, but here Slayer doesn't get anything at all outside of cards that help the whole archetype in general.

Don't know if it's just me, but such videos should just be called "Decks that not alot of people use". Seriously, just because a deck is not meta relevant and used by everyone it doesn't mean that it failed entirely.

I bought only one pack of Circuit Break and pulled a Vendread Chimera. A secret rare. A beyond horrible secret rare. Could have been a Borreload but guess luck wasn't on my side that day.

if the ritual effect could be applied when used from anywhere would really turn the deck around, but if they had addition minor effects when banished by a vendread card then the cost wouldn't have been so heavy. like if banished, send from deck to graveyard a vendread that is a lower level. of course once per turn
@randomhobo3925

Maybe if they had a card that returned monsters to the GY from the banished zone, then once per turn drew a card from it, maybe even searched on activation. A Continuous Spell, to make it balanced
@Humandefect

Just make a level 8 or high level ritual fodder vendread monster. Also just add a card that lets you search a specific vendread card. Fix about every archtype.

I disagree,im using them currently in MD,there win rate is about 50 to 60%.Yeah for sure there arent perfect,but they definatly didnt deserve to get so underrated.

They really need better tribute fodders ala Drytron that don't require to be on field to gain effects bs and better Rituals for that new Vendread Ritual still bad.....😒😒😒😑😑😑

In a game with so many broken cards and OP combos, an archetype that can't reach that level is considered a Failure... Q_Q

I don't know man I saw a vendread have an insane comback from labrynth to win and I seen it play through 6 disruptions. I've seen it shut down meta decks and I seen the dude take the archetype to a regionals

an easy way to fix all the problems would be to make the pringle monsters count as the whole tribute for the ritual summon of a Vendread Ritual Monster. That's it.

@Denki10

it really seems like vendread is good in a vacuum, like discarding cards isn't a steep cost because the deck has so much access to the GY. but then once it leaves it's vacuum and we compare it to other cards that do the same thing without hardly any cost it doesn't stack up

It's a shame too, because Vendreads looked really interesting when they first released. They sadly never rose above their initial power level though.

I still don't get why Revendread Slayer is once per turn tbh. Searching a ritual spell only after being ritual summoned is not so good that it needs a restriction.
