Come on, folks, give me a heads up and a subscribe! It's nothing for you and everything for me. Thank YOU!!
I bought a damaged "Pie Crust" table at a garage sale and really shouldn't have paid the $15 it cost me. But I wanted to do a video on inlay reparis. It took a long time to get where I stopped and so with the video getting long, I decided to do this in 2 parts. But the main point is covered if you need a couple tips on marquetry repair.

Thank you for making this accessible. I am considering purchasing a cabinet at auction that will require a repair to the inlay crest. You have given me the courage to attempt it if the bid is right!

Great work. I tried marquetry years ago and know how difficult it is.

And repair is different than a new project where you can trace and bevel cut. Thank you for your comment.

Love watching veneer repair . It would be nice if you would slow down the filming to real time and show the whole process . Like do a 15 min clip of start to finish on an area . Maybe it’s just me but I love watching . Also that ( the bottom ) stand is fantastic ! The glue type is important too but I didn’t hear what kind it is . I will subscribe !

It's hide glue because it will clean up after the fact whereas PVA glue must be cleaned before it gets too dry. I have a 2nd video for the same table doing the center. I'll be sure to detail that. Thank you for the subscription.

I've just found this as my wife bought a table needing "just a few touches" for me to work on as a new project. I have never tried to repair marquetry before. You refer to an orange and pumice and I wonder if this is what we call Swarfega in the UK. It is a hand cleaner/degreaser which works well on hands. I didn't know it had pumice in it until watching this video. But a great video, many thanks.

That the stuff amongst others.

Instead of putting a sheet of paper down, rubbing a trace image to obtain a template and then using the template to cut out an identical shape from the veneer, wouldn't it be better to simply create a patch (slightly larger than the missing veneer) and then cut the veneer to match your patch? This would ensure that the patch edges more closely align to the missing veneer as its a more direct process (fewer moving parts). Please let me know if you see any issues with this approach.

I think that would be a good way to do it. That's the thing, whatever works best for you. And I think I have done a trial and error approach many times. I can't recall exactly, but typically I will cut a piece from a pattern slightly larger and then sneak it in. Hey, thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Did the orang oil cleaner have pumice in it or did you add the pumice yourself? Or is it just regular Orange Oil hand cleaner that contains Pumice?
@OddJobFix

The hand cleaner has pumice already. Thanks for the question, thanks for watching!

Thank you. It is sitting in line for Part 2. Finishing inlaying the center and overall finishing.

@@OddJobFix I am eagerly waiting for Part 2, then! I do think scroll work of most any kind is beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing. I learn many wonderful things from all of you. In March, my son was given an 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, 21 inches deep COLLAPSIBLE wardrobe. Somebody put glue in EVERY expansion panel. It would not stand tall, only fall. So, i picked, and picked glue out of the broken panel, created a support for the rear panels to keep them from sliding off the base,,... after FIVE weeks, I was finally able to remember its former glory. Please note thatvi only wanted to make it stand. I had no intention of stripping the finish. I finally put a heavy layer of Mineral Oil on it... wow!!!

Wheres the video for the completed "pie crust" table ?
@OddJobFix
@OddJobFix 3 года назад
Funny you ask. After months I started back on the project but am still deciding exactly what I want to to do with the center hole since it won't be original, but something added to complete the top. It sure would have been better to have the top table! So, let's say, "coming soon."

I'm youmg in this business and my question is, why have you decided to scratch it, not using chemical becouse I'd do it that way becouse thin veneer and I'd be affraid to not to damage veneer. And thanks for video amd keep up good work :)
@OddJobFix
@OddJobFix 3 года назад
If you are referring to not using a chemical stripper then you are correct. While something guaranteed not to have any water in it might work, and not using a water rinse, it's till risky. And, since this is more or less a modern import, the veneer is machine thin. Not like veneers of past centuries.
