Antique Marquetry Table RESTORATION. Satisfying transformation. 

As I watched you spend 2000 years and one eternity restoring this gorgeous table, I couldn't help thinking that the original artisan who spent 2000 years and one eternity making it is smiling from heaven at what you've done.

You basically took something that was almost completely dead, and gave it life back, with an amount of patience that I could never have. I'm amazed and speechless, SUBLIME work!

I’m always in awe of people who really have vast, in-depth knowledge of a subject. You are aware of so many techniques and facts, it’s astounding. I would never have dared to even use a sheet of sandpaper, let alone a sander. And the patience is admirable. No cutting of corners or getting fed up and hence rushing the process. The result is absolutely fantastic!

I'm so glad that you left the main part of the table light and naturally wood colored. It always saddens me when beautiful wood is covered up by paint or dark stain. To me, nothing looks better than the natural colors and patterns of wood as it is.

Unbelievable restoration. That oil really brought out the colors of the bouquet of flowers in the center. That project was perfect for your talents and personality. It was painstaking and detailed. Those are your strengths. Just wow.

Absolutely saved this beautiful piece! So appreciate your meticulous patience… we could all use that in our every day life…..still working on that in my early 60’s! Especially now as I need to remove an oil based top coat on chairs I did over 30 yrs ago…boy it sure was some sturdy stuff and I have a tough time of getting it off around the spindled back! But we still like them..and we had to tear down the old part of our house which was a one room school house built in 1886. Still out in the country! So going to paint spindles and legs and a dark stain on the seats! Definitely is time consuming so I only work on it until I run out of patience then I go do something else. So I am always admiring people who can be so very patient!

As a retired dentist, it just tickles me pink every time you bring out the dental tools to work on a piece. Dentistry is basically carpentry on teeth, and many of the tools are the same (in miniature) as well as the terminology. May of my dental colleagues are also woodworkers. I so enjoy what you do, your video presence, and your expertise. Keep it up, Jay! ❤

The reason for the shellac flakes is so you can mix small batches. Premixed has a short shelf life. Love the table and you made it beautiful again.
