-GO BUCKS!!!!!!! TBDBITL(THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND)!!!! -They plot the entire show on a computer and practice the movements to the counts(beats) of the music. -They have from one to two weeks to implement and practice a show depending on how long it is before the next home game. --The other ship and the researcher were representations of our rival, "The Team Up North", University of Michigan. This is the LONGEST known rivalry in both college and professional football.

Both of my daughters were "band weenies," their term. The amount of work that goes into a halftime show and a state marching competition is insane, and that was high school. They started practice in june to be ready for the fall season.

I was in marching band, way back in the 80s. We did field shows like this. The practice started well before school did, and that was my first year in High School.

Ohio State band puts on one of the best halftime shows. The ship that was sunk carried their arch rival Michigan's banner. At large universities, the marching bands have their own practice field so it is serious business.

They have show of Micheal Jackson, Disney, and Led Zepplin. If you want to see a good example of their timing while marching, check out the pregame show where they do Script Ohio.

Yes there is a conductor at the 50 yard line look closer and on the field there is a what is called a Drum Major. How do they do this practice, practice, practice.

And then a little more practice. Two of my sisters paid for college, got scholarships, for marching band. IN TEXAS!!! Huge business. By the time you would be chosen by the college you an old pro.

There are more videos out there of the Ohio State marching band doing similar routines. The are amazing. OH, there is something called DCI. it is also bands but different type. strong brass section horns..give it a try hermosa.

They do a different show every 1 to 2 weeks. And remember, they're playing their instruments while marching.

What you heard at the beginning, when the band takes to the field at halftime, they chant "Pick your feet up! Turn your corners square! And Drive! Drive! Drive!" All the band members are students and put in 30 hr/week practice, along with their normal classwork. They develop six or seven shows for the 12 week long football season. They made a documentary a few years ago, "TBDBITL 141" available here on RU-vid, that followed the band through its 141st year of existence.

I know in High school the marching bands practice 4 -5 days a week before the football season. Then they will have practice every day except Wed. (at least here in Texas) they have a game on Friday nights and then they will have practices or a competition (or both) on Saturdays. THere was one week a year that my kiddos had 5 performances including friday night halftime and several practices all in an 8 day time frame. That's why most band kids are exempt from taking separate phys ed classes.

Thank you for watching a typical high-end college marching band. You can see a show similar to this at 50% of stadiums every week during football season. Some are better than others due to recruiting and funding, but they all do pretty much the same thing. HBCU bands are much more energetic, driven by the bass line and percussion, but they too are pretty much march and play stop and dance bands. The only school I know that never stops playing and never stops marching is Texas A&M's Fighting Aggie band. I'm from Missouri and have no dog in the fight, but there is, in my opinion, no equal to what the Aggies do. Thanks again. M-I-Z
