We don’t have the strength to repel all of our enemies everywhere. We must turn inward and rebuild our values, restore our economy and strengthen our defences, including securing our borders. If we don’t fulfill these aims, we won’t be long for this world. For us to be a world civilisational state, we must be a coherent and confident nation state. This is the fundamental quest of our time. We can either meet it head on as Americans or go the way of Rome. No one can save us from our fate but we ourselves.

I was watching Josh Hawley’s address to the Conference on National Conservatism and I’ve reflected on how far I’ve drifted from my neocon views. Over the last eight years, I’ve become increasingly convinced trying to rebuild other countries in our image is a huge waste of time. In fact, I believe nation-building begins at home. I previously outlined where we need to initiate it and take up on it if America is to survive. A nation cannot be all things to all people. Its identity, core principles and love come from within and from the people who call it home. In a word, America wasn’t meant for any other people. What we cherish and want to pass on to future generations, cannot be the inheritance of others who don’t share the essence of being an American. I will go further to state a conservative who doesn’t grasp this, understands nothing. The nation state, as much as family and faith, are the core of the present day school of conservatism called national conservatism though in truth, it extends back to the Bible and also to Augustine’s vision of the Christian state of the future outlined in the City of God. I want to be blunt: nationalism, all that we are heir to and rightly celebrate, come from God. There is no other source for who we are and in what we believe. A national conservative cannot take the nation state, like for instance, America, for granted. Our independence, the rule of law and freedom depend upon the continued existence of America. If America falls, all of mankind will live in a new dark age in which the oppressions, miseries and savageries will extinguish all the light in the world. Its our duty to prevent that from happening and America must not become the Rome of our emerging multipolar world. We have a country to save, strengthen and to make great again!
