When you think about it, the Symbiote could've been Peter's Greatest Ally, if only they were able to communicate and speak. If the random kid was able to convince the symbiote of not killing an enemy that caused it the worst pain it has ever experienced, then Peter could've trained the Symbiote to be a hero.
@@Vent69420boring. Peter with the symbiote should be the hero and venom is the villain. This whole anti hero shit is so boring, venom is better as a villain. That's like if joker became a hero, it's just not right
I think the point is that they never could have been allies, because the Symbiote wasn't capable of complex morality. It's Peter's moral code that makes him Spider-Man, not the ability to cave gangsters' faces in. Toxic relationships are rarely solved by "fixing them!" It'd still make for a great What If..?
it wasnt really evil, it was just trying to help, in a more aggressive way. for all we know if Peter never got rid of it , it could have been a true force for good.
@@AnkleGremlin we dont even know if aunt may dying like that was going to happen here though. We also see the symbiote learning a few things so the chance that if Venom stayed he could've stopped using brutality (like we actually saw with hammerhead, albeit he was directly asked by the kid to not do it)
This comic makes Venom a more intriguing villain The symbiote loves Peter yet Eddie hates him I remember how in Spectacular when Peter was pretending to admit defeat and called for the symbiote to come back, it hesitated at first but then it gladly went over to Peter
This is it. I'm kinda disappointed that every modern take on the "symbiote storyline" has it turn Peter into a more rageful and aggressive person. This modern take was popularized by the 90's animated series and the Raimi films. In the OG comics, it didn’t do that at all. In fact, learning that the symbiote was alive and taking his body out for a joyride whenever he was asleep was exactly what caused Peter to freak out and reject it. It paints a rather sad picture too. The symbiote wasn't really evil and just wanted to help Peter with his crime fighting. From its POV, Peter rejected it even though all it did was help him in his activities. This is what causes it to grow rageful and bitter towards him, eventually leading to Venom. This is a much more understandable and sympathetic motivation because even though the audience knows what it did was wrong, it was also just trying to help its host. And all it got in return was rejection.
@@WebbedManiacLiterally a cultural misunderstanding. Symbiote didn't know any better, and the fact he was doing it to save people shows he'd actually internalized "with great power comes great responsibility". He tried to do the right thing and went about it in ways that made him look evil to a biased observer who refused to evaluate the situation without ignoring his emotions, JJJ and Spider-Man or Peter and Venom?
You have to consider that he consciously pulls punches so while sleeping the symbiote may not understand that and just throw real punches (plus it was learning about humans and what's considered morality still). You also really can't blame peter. He felt horrible and lost multiple days of his life and was still really tired, not knowing why. The symbiote didn't seem evil here but man you would want to take it off too if you realized it was alive, would not let you go, and was probably causing you to feel horribly sleep deprived all the time. It should have been more understanding to begin with and not forced him to crime fight in his sleep so often (how did it take days of sleep deprivation before it realized it was harming him).
remember he only pulled a full punch of raw strength when he realized what hammer head did.. meaning he did pull punches because he saw peter do it.@@markgomez8157
I actually feel a little bit bad for the symbiotie, it could’ve been given the chance to learn how to be better because it had a level of sympathy. But at the same time it was making things worse for Peter :(
Knowing that the symbiote is alive, there could be a great spin-off or something where Peter and the symbiote come to terms with one another. Find a way to feed it or something
@@d1ffch exactly! sort of like eddie brook and venom. It would have been an interesting storyline. like i imagine it would be hard but they could make it work in the end
@@d1ffch Its not too dissimilar to some interpretations of Blue Beetle deal with his alien scarab, ironically. Better in some ways, since the symbiote hear seems more openly helpful but just lacks understanding.
I know the Symbiot increases peters strength slightly, but like how the story kind of showcases how brutal Spider-Man could be if he ever decided to start pulling his punches. The only reason he’s “street level“ is because he chooses to. He could kill most of his rogues gallery with relative ease if he chose to.
IMO the symbiote doesn't actually increase Spider-Man's strength, it just lacks Peter's human sensibilities. So it's more the case that Peter goes easy on his enemies while the symbiote doesn't.
you can see that in the comic where iron man makes peter reveal his identity to the public, and he gets targeted by fisk where his assassins accidentally shoot and kill MJ. where mf jus straight up shoots the assassin guy and kills fisk with a one punch where fisk thought spider-man wouldn’t do that cuz he’ll hesitate cuz of anger but he was wrong
Great story, I really like how the Symbiote has now in recent years been given a personality and a voice of sorts which in my opinion is way better than just being a device for Eddie Brock's vengeance.
@@thedarkroom6416Not really if I remember the symbiote saved peter life in the church bell by carrying peter body to safety away from the church it hatred for peter only developed after it felt abandoned by peter there is one moment in the amazing Spider-Man # 317 where it tries to bond with peter after peter offered himself to bond with it permanently.
It's kind of interesting how the Venom Symbiote in the early days, behaves a lot like how a Dog would with a new owner. Does as he told, wants to make their owner happy, extremely loyal, doesn't understand human nuances of personal space or morals etc. And then of course, how betrayed it felt when it was Abandoned
I like the symbiote making peter more aggressive, but i would like to see more stories like this where it's just trying to help but doesn't understand that taking over someone's body isn't a good thing.
I think it’s wholesome that the symbiote was trying to help at first. He saw what Peter did regularly and tried to mimic it while thinking he was giving him some rest. With proper training my Peter, the symbiote would’ve been amazing
Hearing this honestly makes me have sympathy for the symbiote. Its intentions were true and I think if peter tried to look inward and understand the alien. Than maybe they could have been a team
Can't help but feel bad for the symbiote. It just wanted to help Peter and be his friend but had gone about that in the completely wrong way. Wish Eddie Brock had stuff like this with Venom
Pretty sure there were issues where the symbiote always chose Peter over Eddie when given the opportunity. Peter would use this to his advantage to get the symbiote and Eddie to become enemies with each other.
This story kind of makes the symbiote look like a child that doesn’t know right from wrong. I like how to symbiote forms a connection with that boy he saved and tries to find him.
Seriously, all these what-ifs just make me want a comic run where Peter bonds with, and communicates with Venom, teaching it how to be a hero, to maintain a moral code, to give Peter someone to talk its emotions through as we all kinda do whenever we feel those dark urges rising up from within. I'd love to see a Venom-Spider-Man where they work together rather than become enemies without turning evil.
No wonder Black Cat appears everytime Peter uses the black suit. For those who don't know, in the 80's comics, Felicia found the symbiote suit so s*xy that she gave to Peter a cloth version of the outfit, which he (after losing the original red-blue suit in an avalanche) would wear for years until the arrival of Venom.
Venom was always interesting, Peter should have learned more about the symbiote and kept it. How cool will that be if marvel did that without demonizing venom. Well, this prevents the venom that we all love wouldn’t exist and all that other crap, but just imagine what else marvel can pull off with this possibility, it’s all about what if. Sadly, people forget that and focus on or else. That is not the objective in life. There is always a universe out there where Spider-Man and Venom are together and awesome. Thanks, for the video man, remember WHAT IF.
I recommend reading the fanfic Bonds of Web it delves into Venom and Peter coming to an understand and compromising in their bond, though the fanfic had Anti Venom be the villainous reason why Peter became a jerk because it and Venom were mixed in together when they left Klyntar and came to Earth, but yeah its an interesting story delving into the partnership between host and alien.
If I remember correctly, it was violent because the venom symbiote is old, like really old and had multiple hosts before peter. The symbiote had a broken morality and just do whatever the host wants, now with peter the past actions lingers from the symbiote and slowly wants to live up because peter was different. It could’ve been a different story and ending if the symbiote lets peter go like a normal clothing and explains how it was and wanted to live up from it
🥺 I just really really love Venom!! It breaks my heart that things had to be this way. I wish there was a story where Pete and Venom could live harmoniously with one another without conflict
Venom did *not* understand the concept of consequences to his actions 💀 “Oh hey, I’ve been using your body to fight crime without you knowing, and it also clearly has a bad affect on you” “Well in that case I don’t think we should be together anymore, that’s not very cool” “ >:( “
@@Firemaster27 as someone deeply afraid of abandonment I probably would of done the exact same i don’t even think he wanted to take over im pretty sure he just didn’t want to be abandoned
@@Firemaster27to be honest from peter POV this unknown parasitic lifeform takes over your mind and goes into places and its unknown what its wants to do for know didn’t do much damage but what things it could do without you even realizing is scary it’s understandable why you would want to take it off
Loved the Spectacular Spider-Man episode in which the symbiote takes control of Peter while he sleeps and single-handedly puts some dirt in the Sinister Six's eyes like a total badass. Bully Maguire power at its finest, fellas! 😎👈👉
from most of the media I've seen Venom (minus the video, of course). I think this one understood the symbiote much better than the others. In my opinion, I always thought of Venom as a child because when Peter first put it on, he acted like a most kids. They wanted to do the right thing, but they didn't know how and needed some guidance about it. When Reed took of symbiote from Parker they were angry because Venom felt abandoned and betrayed they thought that they were Part of a duet Spidey was saving the day, Venom was saving a night. I think of that because after bonding with Eddie, Venom originally was only attacking Spider-man but when someone were in danger they stopped only to save people because they were never bad but script writters just made them that way because they didn't understand it correctly for them it was just a monster version of spider-man.
I feel like if Pete never went to Reeds that Venom would've been a great asset and friend to Peter cause as we've seen, the symbiote realizes his mistake and gives control back to Peter
The first time back in 90s I had a thought that venom is supposed to control Peters body at sleep, but there was no such thing in the cartoon. Finally, this idea is real!
Venom is not a bad guy he just needs the right training and lessons to become a good superhero it’s heart is in the right place just the people around it
I wonder if Peter ever thought about just having a chat with the symbiote. It has emotions like a regular human and is capable of learning. I don’t think it was trying to make him evil it was just very aggressive.
Now I want to see a version of where instead of peter making venom feel betrayed, Venom an peter talk it out an Peter is trying to understand what Venom is an see the good out of venom an venom wants to be a friend an help peter.
sneaking up on you while you're sleeping and taking control your body got to be the most true evil forceful thing y'all got to remember when Spiderman is not holding bag he unleashes real true power of punching strength in force
With this version of Venom, this "friendly" version, it would be cool if it met Spider-man who actually TOOK FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY for it! I am thinking like they bonding, meditating, Peter dreaming and trying to show Venom the other way. Losing and getting control. If there can be Agent Venom why the heck Peter have never managed to help him?
What I love about knowing this now is that spiderman 2 video game did something similar where in a mission peter is sleeping and the symbiote suit runs around reeking havok all while peter is still sleeping
I remember this being a thing in the old animated series but it was never explored. There was one episode I can remember where he just wakes up in the city after going to bed and having a nightmare where venom took over
This kinda feels like another ‘let’s make Spidey a close-minded prick because responsibility’ story. And there’s a few of those. Was it really impossible for Peter look ‘the suit’ in the eyes just once? Sometimes writers in Marvel just make Spider-Man focus too much on what someone or something has done and not what they could do or something, and it all feels like it’s because of Peter’s ‘responsibility’, that he has to throw away everything else without second thought.
Guy just wanted some restful sleep 🛌. Also he literally couldn't look the symbiote in the eye, up until then it was hiding the fact it was alive. After hearing it was a parasite and feeling exhausted all the time (when he had it) he just wanted to take it off.
this really sucks, because Venom really just thought he was doing good and making his friend proud all to be removed as Peter didn't know its intentions
Black Cat: "Your relationship with that redhead chick will never work, Spidey. Why don't you just forget about her and let me become your...partner?" Spider-Man: "Look, Felicia. You are the most beautiful and s*xiest woman I have ever met. You are also very funny and witty and genuinely care about me. But my heart will always belong to the one true love of my life. And that woman is called..." Black Cat: "Did I tell you I'm bi now?" 😉 Bully Maguire: "New York, the Spider and the Cat are together again against evil!" 😎
Btw, the comic that the images are from is actually an updated version of the first comic (which I have) and is actually the original story of it almost verbatim.
