Grand Gala du Disque 1962 Holland. Music starts at 0'52" Dutch introduction by Willem Duys in 1991. AVRO-TV (this guy persuaded her to sing this song in Holland).
Every part of the U.K. is part of the song even Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands I am particularly lucky to have been born here as I am disabled and get treated fairly over all so I feel very very proud of my forefathers and I say rightly so.
@@feliscorax actually there have been several plans by the BBC to remove patriotic songs from the Proms but they have always been scrapped because of public criticism.
Here! Here! To the mighty-est PATRIOT of GREAT BRITAIN, the Commonwealth and old Empire.A true DARLING of the armed forces and citizens alike. May GOD Grant her ETERNAL rest.
Just to say Thank you Britain for just been British , your contribution to the World it's culture it's advancement , it's sense of fair play , creativity , humour , literature is priceless, From an honest Irish man
mickeyh1961 : And I say “Thank YOU Mickey.” We hear so much about the negatives, that it’s very refreshing for someone like you to point out the positives about this country. By the way, thought very carefully about the use of its or it’s (above). Didn’t want to get a rap on the knuckles from the dreaded “Lazier.”
The late Dame Vera Lynn's version of this great patriotic song has reached number 1 on ITunes! It's time the BBC realised they do not speak for the British people.
Haha brilliant they finally somewhat backed down. Still changed the damn lyrics and blamed the British public for creating the controversy despite it simply being a matter of us not wanting them to ban our heritage. Cancel culture has gone too far but I think we proved that we still cherish our identity that was created through so much historical sacrifice
This photo is of my great aunt getting married to her husband in the air force his plane was shot down they had been married for just 7 days she was a seamstress her wedding dress was made out of parachute material ,she was my nans sister who also lost her husband They both bought me up thank God ,that was just after the war so I didn't get to meet them like so many others born and growing up in the 50s so we have our own tragedies stop living in the past and make do with what you have and make it better ,do the history, HAS ANYBODY ELSE GOT THERE LOVELY STORIES TO TELL AT LEAST IT WILL TAKE OUR MINDS OF WHATS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE WORLD TODAY,
They should enshrine this lovely lady. She held.hope together when the World was cloaked in darkness. She gave England and the free world support through her songs. God bless you Vera Lynn.
The greatest rendition of this I have ever heard. When the British way of life meant something and when entertainers and entertainment uplifted the nation.
This woman gave people in Britain strength through the war years. Soldiers and civilians alike gained hope for a peaceful tomorrow and the comfort to keep on going. 🙏
I am German and not only this wonderful tune makes me most unhappy that we fought twice against this glorious nation in senseless wars. What could all have been achieved without them? God save the Queen, God bless Great Britain!
Your words touched my soul, its in the past now, hopefully we humans will one day wake up and realize that in war nobody wins ,after its over we become friends, so the massive waste of life did not achieve anything.I am Australian and many of our young men never came home and just like in Germany many mothers cried...
@@kingofthegarden2350 King, We agree. She is an icon for what the UK was and no longer is. Yes, traditional Britain had its faults, but it made massive contributions to world culture, arts, science, law, economy, & finance.
Bless you Vera - As the woke cancer in society try to get this song banned from the Proms for being “racist”. May God who made us mighty make us mightier yet to fight this nonsense!
Land of hope and glory, mother of the free How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet Land of hope and glory, mother of the free How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet
The phrase well ordered- bounded- liberty springs to mind. And thus, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there, in that place, variously understood, immaterially, and materially, is liberty. Without boundaries, of virtue, of law, there is only license, and chaos, and liberty is lost, personally, and nationally. Inward liberty, from God, and made concrete by the practice of virtue, is the only way to have, and preserve, liberty. It cannot be done by law alone. Authoritarian imposition of virtue or order, by the left, or the right, or media outlets thereof, cannot accomplish liberty, but the opposite. We need to get back to basic definitions, or liberty, personal, and national, will be lost. Liberty is a uniqueness in history.
@@bobbywimsy6741 as our Empire expanded the world became free of tyranny, oppression and slavery. God himself is British & the queen is his vessel, that’s why we don’t have earthquakes or typhoons etc. You don’t shit on your own doorstep.
@@2sqnbandit379 God is British??? God, the eternal Spirit who created the universe, is of a human nationality? Now, if that isn't blasphemy, I don't know what is. Or maybe you are just a poor troll, in which case go on amusing us all.
Sie was and still is a legend. A freedomfighter and heart of Britain. Sie was such a dear Lady with the best values . Im so proud of having a beautiful letter from her, an eternal gift I hold in honor.
tears rolling down my cheeks, bless her heart and all she did for 'the boys'. I know she kept the spirits of those at home strong and proud too as my parents who lived through it all said to me. Thank you Vera.
Dame Vera Lynn a voice of a DIAMOND. I' m Dutch but so proud Vera Lynn come to the Netherlands for this concert the group are singin they are Dutch. God Bless the UK. With love from Amsterdam The Netherlands ❤ ❤ 🌹 🌹 Esther
Wish they would play this rendition in the UK's Houses of Parliament and wake up the bunch of spineless individuals who refer to themselves as "Honourable"
Thank Darwin. You must be one of the only ones that thinks that way. At least the last time I was there. Beatiful country- yours and mine ;) It's like the rain and sun meet. Cushty.
Dylan my husband is Maltese And I am English born I have read and heard all the history of Malta you are right to be proud of your country, I have now visited 4 times and live it more each time I come, was there just a few weeks ago
I'm Canadian with British Granparents.....so moving and makes me feel proud of my English heritage!!! Love you Vera Lynn - you are terrific!!! Brought me to tears
Nancy...same here! My Grandparents came to Canada on their honeymoon in 1923, & never returned to England. I've been to England once, when I was 19. I'm now 75, VERY VERY proud of my British heritage. I'm returning in Nov/2023, & will visit the Church where my GREAT-Grandparents were married, & where the Grandparents I just mentioned were married. I know I'll cry, but I can't wait to get there. I doubt I'll return after November...
With all the recent striff in the UK, this should bring us all together. Those who burned our flag should tremble. This is the land of hope and glory and the home of the free. Whatever happens if we remover this we can move on and be Great Britain together!
Nobody will ever ban this Great British national song. My father fought in East Afikia and then Burma in the second world war for my and your freedom dont forget that. These people want to take away our British heritage. Over my dead body will anybody do that. Rule Britiania
Well said ! They can try and distort the past and attempt to influence the future, but you cannot change something that has already happened. We are what we now are because of the sacrifices made by our Fathers (like yours) who gained much comfort and support from these Great Songs. What is so wrong with carrying on this great British Tradition ? How dare they try and ban them !!
"Fought in East Africa and Burma ...for my and your freedom". In East Africa and Burma? Really? The Germans defended their freedom at the Hindokush lately as their minister of defense said years ago. Now they are home. German freedom lost?
Those of us who lived those days find most of the sand in the hourglass bottom. VL's music assures when the upper glass is diminished, we will not be forgotten.
im young and didnt see her perform in her youth but i am so amazed with this singer. how blessed are those years u have this noble minds and songs. my parents generation is worth extolling.
This is some kind of words...thank you sir, the memories of your generation shall live forever in ours and we will make sure they will live on through the next generations...
Throughout the war, the unique voice of Vera Lynn encouraged British and dominion troops, across the airwaves, to go the full mile for King and Country. She was young and beautiful, and it is fitting that she sang this song in 1962. American forces must also have received encouragement too from a young English Rose , as they were cousins to the mother country..
England is all but destroyed. It will be a Muslim country within 30 years. The Leftists did what Hitler could not, through massive immigration (invasion). Drive through the countryside and you will see hundreds...HUNDREDS of Mosques being built everywhere. Demographics do not lie despite the fact that news media certainly does and will try to hide these facts from you. England is lost forever. Thank a Leftist.
I Love Vera Lynn. Since I was a little boy. She is just Lovely. I'm an American and a WWII Collector and Historian. She is a Legend and she was a huge and positive influence on the English War effort in the Second World War. God Bless Her.
Vera Lynn singing Land of Hope and Glory in Netherlands, a perfect celebration of the strength and goodwill of mankind even during the darkest of times
Yes I agree totally. If we say England is too multi-cultural or that muslims in particular look out of place culturally or even dress-wise,we are branded racist. We speak the truth which millions believe-I don't think it's racialist to point out that most muslims do not want to integrate into the community. They don't want to understand our culture, history and tradition. This is why such songs as' Land of Hope and Glory' will never resonate with any muslim, first generation, second and so forth, because they can't understand the background as to the meaning of such songs to a true Englishman. The fact is we have too many muslims in this once-proud country.
A great melody and passionately sung by the great Vera Lynn, but "God who made thee mighty make thee mightier yet"? Are you kidding? We've had enough might-driven nationalism to last until eternity doubles back on itself.
I know what you're saying. The German national anthem however,,especially the rarely sung and least translated second and third verses, are hardly an image of peace and remember this is still that country's anthem, evoking memories of Hitler and the Nazis,as it does.
I CAN TELL YOU ! VERA GAVE ALL OF US COURAGE TO CARRY ON , SHE WAS AN AMAZING LADY AND WE WERE ALL PROUD OF HER , GOD BLESS HER , 100 YEARS OLD NOW, THANK YOU VERA, AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE CHANCE TO STILL HEAR HER. :):):)
Sir thanks you for your service. I am beyond grateful for yout sacrifices. I hope you have many healthy years. God bless you. God bless the greatest generation!
Cried my heart out while trying to sing alongside Vera.......... 69 years old, so not old enough to be her contemporary. But old enough to hear my parents and grandparents revere her. Thank you for this upload, it re-connects me to my heritage.
For all of those poor wretches who gave this performance a thumbs down, we must pity their miserable existence. To not be moved by the glorious, melodious and soul-stirring sound of this beautiful singer is to be among the brain-dead who have never felt anything in the realm of deeply moving performances. Vera Lynn was a participant in a time requiring great courage, great stamina and an unflappable belief in Britain and its allies that they would defeat the great scourge of Nazism and everything evil that it stood for. Clearly the thumbs-down people have no understanding of what it meant in 1940 to be up against the kind of tyranny being rained down on the British Isles. As is often said, Winston Churchill had the lion's roar while the English people had the lion's heart. And Vera Lynn in this song and performance perfectly demonstrates the spirit of it all. So at last count, 1,665 people did love this piece and 51 did not. Of the latter, all we can believe is that they simply do not possess sufficient depth of feeling or understanding to know what this song is all about. Poor devils, living poor lives, with a poor appreciation for courage, and a complete inability to feel what it is like to be stirred by great performances.
Probably globalist types who have drank too much of the no-nations-no-borders- nonsense...cheers from the USA. Don't know what the future holds, but it's time---past time!---for people to start standing up against the greedy elitists and show that nations can defend their identity heritage and culture without it necessarily leading to strife.
Jerry Giddens The United States has an important role to play in the peaceful union of nations around the world such as the example we have in the UK with our Commonwealth. Sometimes a great song reminds us who our true allies are and what they stand for in this world!
My dad loved Vera lynn .and this song always brought a tear to his eyes .he is no longer with me .but whenever I hear this it’s like my dad is still here .god bless him
+Bep Hvilsted Bep, in case you haven't noticed or are in denial - it's a British song, and the singer, Dame Vera Lynn, is very much an English woman .... It's composer, Sir Edward Elgar, was very much an Englishman and so was the lyricist, Arthur C. Benson an Englishman also .... so stop trying to make it your own and make it sound like it belongs to every nation .... it doesn't .... It's ours - it's British
British is still BEST. We're the most fair-minded of all nations. This is such a moving rendition of a great song. BBC - go bury yourselves, it is not your job to mess with our culture and traditions.
YES leave our culture alone, the BBC has become too woke, and we the people who actually pay them are bloody fed up with it,and while they are at it,stop trying to change our history,it’s makes us angry
@@jeanbrown8295 And it is very hurtful to our nation as a whole. My parents were children during the war and knew real hardship, fear and danger in our country - the unity of the nation, joint effort, and Winston Churchill's speeches helped everyone pull together and believe in the country and that it's worth fighting for. Still is! We don't want a foreign/woke takeover, thank you!
My word doesn't this song make you feel proud of the British peoples tenacity, and the sacrifices of the British soldiers, sailors, airforce, and merchantmen in the war years.
Frank Hyland As a loud mouthed kid I used to make fun of these patriotic songs. Me mum, quite rightly, gave me a clip across the head. Many years later, me Dad took me to newscasts showing the blitzes in London and to my horror the Holocaust. Had nightmares for days and I deserved em too! I have never, since, been so ashamed of myself. My Dad was right. Needless to say I have never made fun of Vera since - and I never will. God please forgive me for my arrogance and to all those gone in the War, some of them no more than boys, my heartiest apologies I did not know any better. God bless you and forgive me too if it is in your heart. Cheers me mates.
daniel courtney Yes, sadly, you are right. On the other hand ... well... the British also made their contribution. I know that is a tripey remark to make but still.... cheers mate.
Every Brit recorded this, but there is just something mesmerizing about her performance.. It is probably the briefest of all patriotic songs, but it's incredible how effective the lyrics are. Back in the day, it was spine-tingling to tie God in to national identity. July 1, 2022, St. Joseph, MO, USA
Can't ANYONE appreciate the song and the beautiful woman singing it? Why all the hate filled comments that have NOTHING to do with the film clip? This song and the manner it was presented brought tears to my eyes and anxiety at the same time. Anxiety because there are no more artists who can demonstrate such true patriotic emotion in their art these days!
