@@TheKaniss …There are quite a few to mention. Whichever is first, this is a personal issue. I usually select back and forth. Tebaldi, Schwarzkopf, Norman, Arroyo, Sutherland, Ludwig, Grümmer, Price and the wonderful Caballé. Just to name a few. Pertile, the incomparable Björling, Gedda, Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo. The unique Bergonzi. Currently I listened to Benjamin Bernheim, absolutely wonderful. All of them lyric tenors. The basses: Christof, Tozzi, Talvela, Ghiaurov, Raimondi and Ramey. Lately I listend to a Swedish (?) Bass, excellent. And the conductors: Toscanini, Guilini, Reiner, v. Karajan, Solti, Bernstein, Abado and Muti naturally…The Quartett I was referring to in this recording ist not homogeneous. It is all about the voice and the effect on me. Who am I to judge anybody ´s maybe different opinion…RDS
@@mk5244Many of the singers and conductors you listed were not Italian either. They cultivated the Italianate color you’re looking for; they weren’t born into it. This quartet is German, with one Latvian. They often sing Italian opera, quite well, in my opinion. I don’t think they’re any less Italian-sounding than Schwartzkopf, of all people! And, to my taste, Karajan conducted Italian opera as if he was playing a Bruckner symphony, beautiful to hear, all wrong in flavor.
@@wotan10950 …I was referring especially to the male singers and the inhomogenous vocal character together with the ladies. None of them impresses me. The singers and conductors in my incomplete list do. Also Karajan and his Verdi(s). RDS
