I actually wonder how much the drivers focus on the racing in front of them or how much they focus on their own race because do you think he was actually getting excitement out of it??
Still an awesome watch I love arching Jeddah as that race was so frustrating but amazing to go back and re live it The vroom then vroom as max flys by followed by Lewis With the high speed turns and camera angles I was in the edge of my seat the whole race knowing one mistake will cost these guys
@@dominicviner6619 as much as I wanted Hamilton to win This season has had so many twists and turns I enjoyed every single race it has to offer because it was so close between them you have no clue what could happen and in who’s favour it would swing
@@landofan6912 I big fan of Jenson Button and I can remember that year 2009. It was one of the kind year because Ross brawn F1. First team and last team in 2009. Jenson Button win in 2011 Canadian gran prix was spectacular and special too.
@@emilau11 it would you too, one little bad call from your team and a bad call from the officials... swoosh their goes the magic elusive number 8 in motorsports, even nascar is still stuck at 7
You could see he was going deep to get a higher exit speed for the straight. Obviously it turned out to be a brutal miscalculation since Verstappen went for a ballsy overtake, but if he had kept the lead into that straight Hamilton could have *possibly* held him for the rest of the race.
@@joshuagleeson4776 Definitely. HAM lifted going into that turn (see the red light blinking) so VER knew he could launch himself right there into that gap. HAM trusted too much in his car/overspeed instead of racing and defending like a lion.
Watching it live I really thought Hamilton was going to get the move back with how much speed he was picking up in the slipstream. Was exciting to watch
@@YouriKlijn honestly. there was no way he could have held him. New softs vs 37 lap old hards. that just wont cut it. if he covered max off on the inside of that turn he would have had terrible traction on his way out while max (with the new softs) would have had the better turn from the outside and the better traction he would have either switcheroo'd him right there or been so close that the next straight would have been an easy overtake with slipstream. pointless discussion anyways i think but well.
I just wanted to say that Crofty's commentary is just incredible in adding tension to this last lap. The amount of excitement in his voice, and he always knows what to say in the moment. His way with words is just sensational.
So many great Crofty lines in just two minutes. A lot of these will go down in history. 0:44 "It's a late lunge by Verstappen, who takes the lead of the race!" especially got me.
Do you want me to tell you something funny? Non Hamilton fans have hated Crofty for years just due to the simple fact that he has been the main commentator commentating on Hamilton's success. They've cried about it for years. Now, all of a sudden, when another driver wins (fake win) these same people love crofty just because he's commentating on Hamilton getting robbed. Its actually the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. People hating Crofty just because they hate Hamilton.
Yeah my boss was there and he is Hamilton fan so had pretty big laugh at him as he was saying there is no way Max will win it (we are both upper managemnt and friends so not a typical boss)
@@patricklemire9278 Also the Stewards' choice to pit the safety car without a full inlap, as well as only letting certain backmarkers by, both of which are totally unprecedented? Mercedes played their hand perfectly--as did Red Bull--knowing the rules, and then the rules suddenly changed.
This last lap has everything. Screaming Crofty, screaming Toto, Max block passing Lewis, Lewis fighting back, and the crowds screaming in delight and agony.
After many watches, it appears that Hamilton made a major miscalculation going into turn 5. It appears he was attempting to roll the car in deep and high on entry in order to hit the apex with as much speed and at as efficient of an angle as possible. Not expecting max to take a dive that early in the lap and thinking that this high entry would help him with his exit speed compared to max and allow him to maintain a gap down the straight. However when max took a dive heading into the corner, Lewis' high entry totally backfired. It gave Max the room he needed. Even worse, Lewis didn't seem to see it coming so he made a reactionary tweak of his steering angle to avoid contact and that took him off the apex and completely eliminated the advantage his initial line was supposed to provide him with. It seems it all came down to a simple assumption that turn 5 wasn't going to be where max made his move
Absolutely. He should have gone defensive and covered the inside of the corner. Without Drs and with merc straight-line speed it is not given that Verstappen would have overtaken him on the long straight. Lewis also would've had the inside line coming into turn 6. The moment Max overtook him in turn 5 I knew it was over.
Add to it that Abu Dhabi is a terrible circuit for overtaking, which Lewis obviously knows from the 2016 final. I think if he was thinking clearly he would've defended, I think he was too much in shock and wasn't able to stablise himself..
@@chrisj1612 It was a hairpin coming to a very long straight. Lewis had old tyres while Max had fresh softs. Going defensive would make him get a bad exit speed and Max would breeze past easily. For the tyres he had that was probably the best he could do
@@1904timme I've been reading recently and Max is actually really calm when he races, Lewis at this point is used to the pressure. I'm sure that every driver goes into their zone with full focus, I believe that if any driver is thinking and being nervous I think that they would lose control of the car. This is just my guess.
@@FormulaMac In many interviews Max said that he was actually really nervous the whole abu dhabi week end but he tried to hide it as much as he could, but you can see how much pressure he felt when you hear his radio and you hear him crying and screaming, and also when he crouched against his wheel, you can see how much pressure he was under
@@nirmalyamisra This Mike is Michael Massi, former president of the FIA, the team bosses from Red Bull Racing and Mercedes were honking in Massi's ear about the title. 😉
Every little factor made this happen. The tiniest details added up to a tie into the final race, and then it went down to the final lap of the final race. This lap took 33 years off of my lifespan.
Goosebumps guys... just out of this world. Regardless of who won at the end. This season just had to deliver one last time. Wow. The passion. This is why we fall in love with sport. Amazing max & lewis. This season wil be remembered and relived long into the future
Still the best single lap of racing ever, and despite what the rest of the world thinks, there was a huge amount of UK F1 fans willing Max on, and loving the outcome.
can you prove this or are you just mumbling nonsense. no one wanted max to win this way. it was robbery of lewis. having a final lap race when lewis had worn out tyres.
@@robertmclean8358 Look at the thousands of video's on RU-vid, many showing fans from the UK cheering when Max won, very easy to do. As for Hamilton's worn out tyres, he had the same chance to change them as Max and many others did, Lewis even said we should change the tyres, so having worn out tyres is his/Mercedes fault, they could and should have used the opportunity like the others did.
@@KazzyD i was being nice with you but look up the rules of the safety car. they changed it to have a final lap race. if normal rules applied then lewis would have wen tover the line as winner behind a safety car
This is what racing is supposed to be about.. Which is why although against what has been done before, they made the right call to finish this race with an actual race.
@@fsnaviation4865 2 of my favorite racers racing against each other in so so unequal positions - F1 is heavy tyres oriented - even Latifi and Mazepin on soft would eat Lewis on old hards - this legendary final lap is a disgrace and dark legacy of massi
100% pure adrenaline...I was about to fall asleep but something was telling me I needed to keep watching until the end... n Im glad I waited....wow! im so happy for MAX and his team. They knew they didn't have anything to lose n went for a second stop which at the end helped them a lot...great season!
@@justaguyonyoutube1184 I can tell you're new to F1 and or didn't watch the race, Hamilton had 13sec gap on lap 53 of 58 when Latifi crashed 13sec gap is far from "this race had everything dude" the ending was dramatic much like 08, in recent yers the 16 finale was more entertaining imo 2010 and 2007 had amazing races all year long , to each their own
All this racing, all this fight, all this team effort, everything coming down to one lap, one single last lap. Thank you for this Max and Lewis, what legends you two...
@@alvori1 How is that an intelligent question? So you'll give one driver the advantage just so the race doesn't finish behind a safety car? Did Hamilton cause the safety car?
At lap 50 I thought... it's over, Lewis won because had there not been a safety car Max had Lost straight out. But then lap 57 came and I almost had a heart attack...
Was a fraud. If they had followed the rules it would have ended under a safety car Lewis wins if all the cars didn't unlap then max is too far back to overtake at end. They told red bull they changed minds 18sec before Lewis also. It was rigged
do not watch F1 as frequently as I'd like but, I will forever be grateful that I tuned in LIVE for this one. one of those sporting moments that will never fade away
I’ve never been more nervous watching any sporting event ever. My heart was racing and my hands were shaking. It was like watching a movie. Couldn’t have asked for a better finish to such an insane season
25 years of watching F1. Never seen a season like that. So many drama, wheel-to-wheel action. They responded one to each other both on practices, qualifying and races and they just offered us one of the most epic and dramatic ending to a historic season. They both deserved it but happy for Max As a Ferrari fan, sounds like a 2008 sweet revenge. Massa's been champion for 30 seconds before being beaten by Hamilton. Now Hamilton has been champion for 57 laps before Verstappen became the real champion on the last lap. But as I said, congratulations to both of them for everything they offered us this season
I agree. But I think if proper FIA regulations were followed the race would not have restarted until all the back markers were allowed to the front. They only allowed five of them. I'm glad Max won but he was lucky in a sense that F1 thought it was time for a new winner.
2008 Brazilian GP -"You will never see a more dramatic conclusion to any motor race, let alone a Grand Prix than that" 2021 Abu Dhabi GP - "Hold my beer"
I rewatch this probably once every couple of months. I remember jumping in my living room right before the holidays, almost knocked over my Christmas tree. Wish I could witness it all for the first time over again.
You either yield to Max or get taken out. If they both DNF Max wins by default. But that's how he is He Torpedoes into you and you yield to him or crash
@@1StevenValdez1 people often say this in a negative way, but that's how so many of the greats drove. Senna would give you the choice.. yield or crash. Its up to you.
You watched a fraud. If it ends under safety car Lewis wins if all the cars don't unlap themselves then Max is too far back like to overtake Lewis and they told Red Bull they changed their minds 18 seconds before Lewis
22 races over 9 months and it's right down to the last lap of the last race of the season!!!!! Never forgetting the fight I saw today! Absolute brilliance by both the drivers!!!
@@gigachad8872 I think Lewis showed pure class after the race because he's been there. He's now won and lost a championship on the last lap of the last race of the season due to things beyond his control (Timo Glock's tires in Brazil 2008).
@@shubhamchauhan6964 That it was entertaining??? Have you not seen the entire race??? Or the even the last lap??? Regardless of how far lewis was, the fighting didn't stop until that very last lap
As Kimi fan, I know how dutch Max fans must feel. Kimi won 2007 that almost ended up a 3way-tie between hamilton, alonso and Kimi. Won by 1 point. These things are the legendary endings, in which always somehow just legendary drivers can end up to. Congratulations to Max, and cheers to Lewis as well. This was huge season
Kimi been great and clean, noone could question his integrity. With this years winner its a bit more shady but i think its only fair to say the best won this year too. Still, where there is room for question marks there is a reason.
"Noo Mikey, nooo! That's so not right!" I was almost comical to hear the whining from Whamilton's team. Not really a Verstappen fan either, but I was rooting for him, even happy for him here.
Didn't expect my heartbeat would go faster than Max and Lewis cars. Almost a heart attack in a making on that last lap. Well done to both of the drivers. Happy fan here! Great race and season! Congrats to Max!!!
I really was screaming my lungs out on that final lap. Regardless of the controversy and all the grey areas throughout this blockbuster season, both Max and Lewis truly deserved the title this year. They've been outstanding right from the get-go and little separated them for the majority of the season. I feel very sorry for Lewis that his well-deserved 8th world title slipped out of his hands on the final lap in immensely controversial fashion, but when you put this incident and all the unjust moments Max and Red Bull encountered, in my humble opinion, they got even come the end of 22 brilliant races. Max just managed to edge Lewis to 2021's trophy and I do not believe that Max or Lewis, at this point, were robbed of anything after the skirmishes and incidents of the year had been balanced out. Max was humble in victory and Lewis gracious in heartbreaking defeat, I respect these two quite a bit for those reasons alone. Needless to say, we'll all be cheering these two on all over again in 2022 when we enter unchartered territory with those new regulations. Thank you, everyone for making a spectacularly special F1 season all the more memorable!
this season was great. one of the best, right up there with 2007, 2010, and 2012. everyone has been great- Max, Lewis, Perez, Bottas, Mazepin, every mechanic on every team and everyone else. except for the FIA.
Same for me! I found out about F1 earlier this March and was instantly hooked to the sport, I was rooting for Max to win especially after what happened to him in the Biritsh Grand Prix
And he deserves it! I don’t care about what Hamilton fans say. Verstappen was CHEATED at silverstone and Hungary, and Baku of course. Hamilton learned that what goes around comes around, and that his luck won’t last forever. With a new young teammate and a complete overhaul of rules, I think it’s reasonable to expect that Hamilton will NEVER get that 8th title. Praise the lord!
im so happy i started watching F1 in 2021 and was watching this live as this happened. I do not know what will make me feel the emotions i felt on the final lap again.
Nail biting finish, unbelievable, this is going to be memorable. However huge respect for David Croft (commentator) - he was spot on and he should get an award as well...
whats nail biting, there haha... That was obvious there was no race coz the tides had already shifted.. Max won but there was no race talk about coz of the different tyres they had.. To max fans, it was cool i guess....
New season finally started, with another win for Super Max, and I just can't help coming back to this. I stopped watching F1 when Vettel moved to Ferrari, but when I heard that Verstappen was doing well and that he had a decent shot at dethroning Hamilton in 2021 I just had to start watching again. I've been hooked again ever since.
Seriously like I try not to sound biased towards Hamilton or Verstappen. But that infringement of their own rules couldn’t be more obvious. So Mercedes and Hamiltons frustration is justified completely.
