Detailed step by step build of the Versus DLG kit from Hobby King. 1.5m wingspan, 290g flying weight, including 15g in the nose for balance. More detail and photos of the build here newtonairlines.blogspot.com.au...
I just took delivery of my Versus kit and have been searching for build info. This a timely post for me and very useful video. Thank you for taking the time to do this excellent build video.
Thank you Andrew :-) Your video is a fantastic build log for the Versus. Ever since I discovered this great DLG, which performs well beyond expectations, I have wanted to see such a video. This video, your build log and the RCGROUPS thread makes the Versus one of the most documented DLDs available. I have found no better DLG to start with and your video helps anyone produce a very successful model for this thrilling mode of RC flying. One builder even out flew some competition flyers with it. A fantastic job you have done :-) Mal :-)
Thanks Mal. Your contribution to the RCGROUPS thread is fantastic. All your pre build testing and measuring has made life much easier for all of us. I learned all I know from you.
good video built many dlgs best thing to do with the versus is to get the blaster 2 elevator mount and replace the balsa block and have a the full area of the elevator working for you ,makes a big difference to this dlg , the last versus which i built for someone took me around 2hrs once you have built one dlg they are all more or less the same i do like the blaster 3 really nice clean build on them ,but for launching the topsky 3 takes it i can get it to around 190ft where as the blaster only to around 160
Tanks! The instructions of my dlg glider are a disaster so I read the istructions of this glider. This video is useful because adds information to the manual. Greetings, Ale
Great build andrew, can't wait to see it fly! Riding tiny thermal bubbles is one of the coolest things in r/c! I use an Art Hobby Elster 1.5m as a DLG (though its not designed as one) and it great fun and challenging. Go out on a calm, sunny day and you'll learn to read them :-) Find your best glide speed and keep it there, when your tail rises slightly, you're in lift. ATB!
Thank you so much for this video!!! Finally a video with all the little details that will help builders of ANY dlg !!! You answered so many questions I had that would've been hard learned mistakes after the fact. I liked and subscribed!!
Andrew, incredible series of videos! DLG’s must be made of tough stuff. As a side...I was on a DLG when I was in the USN-1966-1970 And visited Australia.
Andrew Newton Hey Andrew, Your video('s) helped a lot. Just finished the Versus. Waiting now for Hobbyking to deliver a 350 mAh Lipo which should just fit in the nose. Will let you know the result of the maiden..... Regards, André
Thanks nicely edited video. I just purchased one of these myself. I'm unsure I'll build mine in exactly the same way but I picked up some good tips there.
Satoshi Takahashi - Your comment is not appearing for some reason. I use a Turnigy 9X with the OpenTX firmware mod via a Smartieparts board, but any programmable transmitter with at least 4ch will work. Initially I had 4 Dymond D47 servos but the aileron ones stripped after a few hard landings so I would not recommend them for ailerons, great (and small enough to fit) for rudder and elevator but too expensive IMO. I'm now using cheapo HXT500 for ailerons and they're OK but a bit inaccurate. Battery has to be small enough to fit right into the nose, I use a TGY 300mAh 2S with BEC, lasts for 2 hrs.
Thank you for the missing part, instructions. I just got an unopened Versus kit at an estate sale. Everything appears to be in the box except instructions. Thank you again!
Any thoughts on using credit cards or actual carbon fiber sheets for the tail surfaces? I know balsa is cheap, but I imagine they would be more resistant to damage. I'm also curious why people don't use square carbon tubes for the tail booms. Seems like they would make it easier to align the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
Andrew, I am building a Gladiator II DLG I got on RCGroups... I need to reinforce the tail and I was wondering what fiberglass you purchased for that purpose? Was it from the hardware store or did you purchase online? Thanks in advance for your help
Good morning, how are you ? I have a DLG just like the video, but this weekend, my Futaba radio went off, and my glider fell flat on the floor, damaging the POD. You have some video that I can make one, or indicate a store that I can buy this POD. thank you, a big hug
sorry for being dum...i am new to aeromodelling can you tell me whether the material used was depron or styrofoam(the one ft uses in its build videos)...and also i noticed that you are best at explaining theory of airplanes...can you please make a video on different types of foams...i beg you
I dont know which foam is used in this model, might be XPS or special wing core foam. Here's a blog post on foamboards - www.flitetest.com/articles/foamboard-in-australia
HELLO from LA California again , nice video great filming im new the japanese do small hand haunch birds , would u if possible do a small balsa and tube for the beginner types of glue ect. thanks to u and all down under ! Fred ( nice job )
+paulkazjack You are probably right but any damage I have done has been due to tip strike or dropping the transmitter. The fibreglass pod is fairly weak. But thats why decent DLGs are 3 or 4 times more expensive.
I just wanted to say that I was very worried about the safety of your fingers. Maybe it was just the camera angle that made it look like your fingers narrowly escaped being impaled by a drillbit. nice video, thanks.
Not really. You can download the pdf on the HK international site under "Files" www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__23138__versus_composite_dlg_1500mm_glider_kit.html
I don't want to be smart, but I think you should use gloves when you handeling Epoxy, because sooner or later you will get alergic to it if is in contact with skin,..
