Callum Ott it's not relevant. I just didn't feel like saying interviewer again or look up his name. It's that simple, no need to try to make it look like something more.
Captain Awesome Beard fuck yeah he was being pompous, he must be sick and tired of this shit. Hes no longer an actor and this guy is throwing up dumb questions with any relevance to star wars, hes not an interviewer, just a star wars fanboy
Callum Ott Yeah... I don't think you were trying to make it something more, and I definitely don't think 'the aussie guy' is the reason this interview was awkward. I think Sebastian just doesn't know wtf he's talking about. No offense, Sebastian.
Huy Nguyen no he didn’t handle it the best he could. Nardwar acts even worse. It’s really easy to make akward things less akward, just play along. Hayden was acting a bit like a dickhead by taking everything too seriousX
@@CoreyChambersLA It really is about privacy and how the footage could and would be used. That's what I don't like about it. Especially nowadays. Viral sensations make and work wonders for some people. And just straight up horror for other people. The kardashians, that is their whole career. You got all this shit now going viral, especially the really dumb shit, and then you have very hateful comments and the like towards you. Some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen though exists on tik tok. People legit post the dumbest crap on there. Because, yah, everyone shopping at the mall wants to be apart of a video on an escalator. You don't always have a choice. You could just potentially be on camera against your will walking somewhere. It is pretty pathetic if you ask me. People are just crazy nowadays. And this was in 2009, so really before the peak of the fall of human society. I mean, The world really sucks right now. Like really sucks. It is a shame where society is now. Everything has to be political. This was also before every moron has access to facebook and fucking thousand dollar phones with built in cameras and all that good shit. Some Humans are naturally obsessed with drama and making fools of themselves for others to laugh at. Others are not. You can tell that Jake lloyd just did not like his experiences as anakin. It caused so much drama. So much negativity. Just so much shit in general. Some positive comments to. But, I feel the same way. I mean, the only reason I even walk in the doors at work, is so I can get paid. I would love nothing more than alone time. It would be different if people were actual people. But this isn't the case anymore. Not in the age we live in currently.
It was only awkward because you had an amateur interviewer asking the worst questions I’ve ever heard. Jake looked him in the eyes the entire time and answered honestly
+dedpxl well he did other stuff ** Checks Wikipedia ** maybe he might prefer a question about that. i know its a star wars convention and all but hey, maybe he would like a question he hasn't answered a billion times about what he did when he was like 10. hell i cant remember much about what i was up to when i was that age
Liamnerfdude1 Its a new hope. But worse. With unfunny, forced humor and an incredibly modern script. It added like nothing new to the lore, except an endless stream of unanswered questions. It felt like a shallow, blockbuster-y version of star wars.
it's a joke. it would only be offensive if he actually did dwell into drugs. get a fucking sense of humour. us australians point out eachothers weaknesses in an endearing way.
But he didn’t he instead turn to well the dark side it’s sad knowing he actually became something he was leading up to in a movie but he is corrupted I wish I turned off the camera if I was the interviewer and just tell him I appreciate what you have done and give him a hug and so on
@@Christian-xg1bgBro didn’t know what happened to him in 1999 tpm he is allowed to not be in front of a camera I wouldn’t blame him he was bullied all the time Star Wars ruined his life because people can’t appreciate anything and we’re unhappy like always
@@Christian-xg1bg I agree. The interviewer wasn’t asking these questions with malice. The interviewer seemed surprised that little Ani didn’t feel proud of his work. Ani just assumes anything associated with these movies is bad. I mean people love celebrities, it’s kind of in the name. We celebrate them. This shouldn’t come as a shock to him that someone thinks he did a good job in the movie but it does because of his ex-classmates. He’s letting his classmates live rent-free in his brain even all these years later. Why show up to an event where people are only gonna recognize because of a movie you were in but then get offended that they ask about the movie? That’s just stupid.
@@LordShadow13 he was asking questions totally normally on an interview, it doesn’t matter what “bullying” he went through, the guy was literally doing nothing but asking general interview questions and got hostile responses almost every time. Also he agreed to the interview so there was no reason for him to be rude, I mean dude he’s at a fan event.
Jake resisted the temptation to "use The Dark Side". I wouldn't have been as successful with that. I think the "interviewer" was trying to sensationalize his own "fame"🤔
Hahahahahaahaaaa!! He would have made such a better Darth Vader than that conceited wanna be pretty boy. He has real passion when he talks, Haha haha you could feel the hatred even through the kindness and politeness of all his words.
There's nothing wrong with the interviewer. Just because Jake was in a bad mood, doesn't mean his bad mood is a reflection of how well or poor the interviewer is behaving. And just because the internet says he's bad, doesn't mean he's bad.
@@tapiocamango no it was a pretty bad interview. asking him if he shunned it was where Jake really started to get annoyed with his questions, and then the stupid questions after like does it help with the girls.
That part at the end where he brought up former child stars falling into drug use with a former child star who is visibly uncomfortable with discussing aspects of how his child stardom affects his adult life was some good shit. Tune in next week when he asks a retired NFL player who suffered 8 concussions about Junior Seau shooting himself in the chest.
That last question was totally a "f you too man" jake was being a jerk, he agreed to the interview and got mad that he was asking about the only thing he was "famous" for
You can just see the torment and the pain in this poor kid’s face. It really sucks that a portion of the fan base and his classmates drove him to the point he went to.
@@CoreyChambersLA This is from a recent interview with his Mom: "Jake, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008, according to Lisa, left the public eye in the early aughts amid negative reaction to The Phantom Menace. However, his mom shut down the notion that the criticism played a role in his mental health journey. "It would have happened anyway," she reflected." His Mom said she shielded him from much of the initial backlash but his paranoid schizophrenia is genetic and runs in his Dad's side of the family.
Thank you for keeping the blame where it belongs and not making the mistake so many others in the comments made and apparently believing that the reporter was the one who traumatized Jake - as if they have no sense of irony about what happens when you direct your anger at an innocent bystander who is *not* responsible for the disaster that happens! But yes, the awkwardness of this interview 100% should be blamed on the bullies who drove him to this point. The interviewer simply made an honest and forgivable mistake!
@Ian Goodman en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Lloyd#Personal_life In 2012, Lloyd explained that his decision to retire from acting in 2001 was due to bullying at school. As a result, he decided to no longer keep all owned Star Wars memorabilia. So questions about Star Wars probably brought up painful memories for him.
Ian Goodman you people think actors are not human and are just ment to entertain us lmao dude was bullied so bad he had to leave school he will be known for the rest of his life as being Anikin any time someone sees him they see the kid I am sure he has a right as a human to not fucking like being known as a kid who played in a movie his parents probably pushed him to be in smh like he was a little ass boy I am sure his parents thot he would be famous so it wasn't really his choice
He was complimenting Jake! It just happened to be compliments that sadly drudged up some terrible memories from Jake's past. But more importantly, Jake's trauma comes from people like *you* failing to see who is *actually* responsible for the disaster before them. Just like how Star Wars fans and bullies in Jake's schools blamed him and failed to understand that he was *not* the reason that first movie was so terrible, *you* clearly have failed to realize that that reporter is *not* the reason Jake is traumatized, it's *bullies* who *wrongfully* directed their anger at the *wrong* person! How ironic!
People criticizing Jake Lloyd for the way he reacts in this interview? seriously?? I can understand why he would get annoyed when asked such questions " Has it helped you at all with the ladies at all? " .. amongst other things such as suggesting he's going to turn to a life of drugs and asking about an acting career that finished.. I mean seriously, the interviewer is the one at fault here..talk about unprofessional.. I could have conducted a better interview
@@TrollinFromFlask the question that turned the interview from polite to cringy was the one about the "cards" to play with girls. Such kind of behave is funny or at least tollerable between friends, but from a stranger you are practically asking for a punch in the face.
100%. People just expected 9 year old Anakin to be some macho badass and when they didn't get their wet dream then the film was somehow "bad". Lol, no, it just isn't your fanfiction.
I dont understand why so many people were harsh to a 10 years old actor? He was just a kid wtf!He wasnt even fuly aware of what he was doing. And why not blame the director?
That's the thing. I don't think 'people' were harsh to him, but kids his age were most likely jealous and cruel. At least that's what I think. He confirmed that he was bullied at school for the role. It all makes sense, really - bullying can seriously mess with a person.
laracroftvideos yeah i know.I friend of mine years ago got a 3 secs role in a fuckin croissant ad and he was stuck with that croissants name forever lol.Kids are brutal.
1) Clearly thought of (stupid) questions on the spot (No preparation) 2) Knew nothing about the star, his current situation or his experience of filming Star Wars (No research) 3) Smiled as he made generalised statements and asked childish, poorly formed questions (No tact) 4) Closed the interview with a pathetic quip about the unfortunate demise of (some) child actors (No respect) 5) Presented the clip as an awkward interview, STILL not realising, even in editing, that it was HE who messed up what could have been a great interview - Jake Lloyd gave polite and well-formed answers; had the questions been more intelligent this video would have more likes than dislikes, I'm sure. (No...just No).
@@mestubbs Agreed. The interviewer knew damn well what he was doing. He wanted Jake Lloyd to get angry so that he would have a video of Lloyd "losing it" for whatever shitty show he's a host of. Lloyd didn't take the bait and so the interviewer resorted to trying to peddle it as an "awkward interview". Well, yeah, it was awkward and that was solely due to the arsehole of an interviewer.
I’m sure he did, but not in the final cut, that’s less his fault and more so George Lucas seeming to pick the worst takes because of his *”oh this is how space people talk like”* mentality.
Poor guy. I understand how he feels Shit if I was a child actor who stared in Star wars. and Fans shunned me. Id disappear too. He was a kid. I mean fuck, People get so pissy about the prequels and they don't relize that it wasn't just him. Hes was a kid back then. and People probabley picked on him in school and he probabley doesn't like being asked questions about this shit.
Then maybe he shouldn't show up to conventions where the only claim he has is Star Wars, then agree to do interviews with someone who is obviously going to ask Star Wars questions. He said he studies psychology. You would assume he could have figured that out.
Are you... trained in psychology...? It's debatable whether entering this situation would be considered a wise move but more than that, what isn't debatable is his body language. The body language of the interviewer is very obviously an attempt to entertain the camera while Anakin's here is 100% a way of showing contempt for the interviewer and the situation altogether. It's not really therapy if you're causing possible discomfort for other people. He's just a spoiled twat who can't move on because of his own self-centered attitude which was bred from being in the stupid movie in the first place. He has no legitimate excuse to continue being upset. It didn't ruin him for life, it gave him a piece of his past that people can poke fun at, but men grow up and learn to cope with these things without throwing internal fits. His life is dandy. He's perfectly successful compared to a huge majority of the populace, and he got to experience a very very unique thing in cinema. Until we hear that George Lucas molested him on set, I feel nothing but disgust for this child.
It's utterly absurd to try and defend his actions because he's "not there for other people, but for himself." He is an icon who showed up to a convention. He may be there for himself, but massive amounts of people there are only there to see people like him. So this interviewer for example isn't there to help this twat face his past/fears. He's there for himself. He's there to do his job and get some footage. The difference here is, no one is going to that convention to see that interviewer. Just like people aren't going to the conventions to see Star Wars fans as much as they are to see Star Wars stars. He may go there for himself, but that doesn't mean he can disregard other people. That's kind of disgusting selfish behavior is called psychopathy.
***** I felt bad for the interviewer, he asked basic questions about his star wars past life. Just doin his job, and Comments like "I wasn't gonna say it I'm sorry" and like "I'm not a fan of cameras anymore" While starring right at it condescendingly. Crossed arms and body language all said "Fuck off" means he walked right into a trap. I have no idea why he went if it bothered him that much. :\
Ariel R. Pacheco He stopped acting because of bullying and having to do so many interviews (up to 60 a day). I imagine all this brought up a lot of stress. Star Wars did ruin this guy's career and put him through hell. The interviewer knew that (you'd have to know some basic info before an interview), and still kept making subtle jokes about Star Wars.
For some background, Jake Lloyd was overworked by George Lucas as a ten year old, got bullied at school for his role in the movies, continued with bullying for the rest of his academic career, developed schizophrenia and depression because of the amount of hate that he received, and got into a car crash and was arrested after his own mom made fun of him for his role.
He did not develop schizophrenia and depression because of the hate he received... his mother shielded him from that, he was genetically predisposed to develop both at some point in his life because of his father's side. (new information that was released)
Jake Lloyd has such a dry and sarcastic sense of humor about everything dealing with an amateur interviewer. He could really be an interesting sitcom character! I mean that as a compliment
In all fairness, the interviewer is not doing a good job on being professional. He should have knocked off the jokes and laughing when he saw that Lloyd wasn't laughing. Also, people have to remember that Lloyd was just a kid when he played Anakin and it couldn't have been easy when almost the entire Star Wars fanbase is blaming you as one of the reasons for Episode One's failure, especially when you're just a kid. Crap like that will scar you for life.
Who in their right mind ends a interview off with saying “Child Actors usual deal with drugs so may the force be with you” even Jake is like what the freak.
It wasn't awkward. Jake was being teased and knew he was being teased. It's impossible not to be sensitive to that kind of stuff even the most subtle bullying when you've been picked on for years for "ruining star wars."
I think Jake Lloyd did very well in this interview. The interviewer clearly didn't know or was ignoring the fact that this guy has had severe life-long trauma BECAUSE of being in Star Wars and because of some pretty disgusting emotional bullying. He isn't being awkward, of course he is being cautious about what the real meaning of the questions. In his shoes, I would feel like any interview was probably secretly making fun of me. I wish his life was easier it makes me so mad what this experience did to his mental health. It really seriously destroyed him and it can't easily be fixed.
Well if it was so traumatic then why go to appear at a convention? Obviously people will want to interview him and obviously it will all be about star wars lol
@@realretrorelapse His questions were tactless and rude. Even if he wanted to ask about Star Wars he could at least have done so in a way that's respectful. That comment at the end about not turning to drugs made me really cringe.
It's not an interviewer's job to avoid sensitive issues, even if aware of them. The opposite could be said to be true, that poking and prodding to reveal emotions, trauma or other personal revelations can be a sign of an extraordinary interview.
Martin Kove no he isnt...the questions were reasonable, friendly......jake lloyd has a chip on his shoulder and doesnt like answering questions about star wars....and remember that he kicked and punched his own mother and blamed her for his own problems...take responsibility!!
Omari Perera so what? he became a douch early on in the interview when he was asked about pulling the force card to pick up girls... it was a fun, simple question that is of curosity to most red blooded young males...he didnt need to be a complete dick about it.....and i bet you he did.
I feel so bad for the guy. He got so much hate for just trying his best and wanting to be in a movie. If the movie was boring, blame the writers. He had nothing to do with the fact that the movie was boring and took too long to get to the action packed stuff. He is a hero to me and I hope one day things get way better for him.
Incorrect: He didn’t just “want to be in ‘a’movie.” He was already in films years before the Phantom Menace. Notably Jingle all the Way. So, that part of your point is entirely embellished.
Jack Wade I kinda shied away from the original point I was trying to make. My point was how is the interviewer supposed to know that he's a schizophrenic? Interviewers aren't trained to read human expression/body language and come up with a definitive conclusion of what illness a person has based on their first interaction. There are many variables to consider before coming up with a verdict: and certainly not one you can make from a single meeting. They are there solely to ask questions about a movie. Nothing more nothing less. Although I do agree that the interviewer could have done a better way of handling the interview when it got a bit fired up, I understand why he acted the way he did. From the outside looking in, it just looks like Jake was being a straight dick.
wellll.....should do a research next time before u interview them????that s what reporters do, it s thir job...u cant just go upto them n ask random questions, knowng nothin about him prior...so either he was a dick or a dumbass or unprofessional in his job, same thing......
You kidding? The interviewer literally said at the end that a lot of child actors turn to drugs and to not do that. The guy interviewing was a total ass hat
poor dude. thought about him today, checked his wiki, heard the sad bits, searched, and seeing this, he seems like a normal dude. interviewer is being an asshole. probably not intentionally, but just very tone-deaf. still will remember him as anakin in pod racing and the first episode - the first star wars i ever saw in theater. hope he does ok in the future.
@@nagihangot6133 No he was constantly bashed by SW fans for being partially responsible for the hate The Phantom Menace got. I remember the insults being hurled at then 10 year old Jake that summer by fans on the internet. Calling his acting wooden and saying he was responsible in part to how bad the TPM was. It made him hate acting and he ran from it before he even hit his teens years. In addition he took alot of shit from his peers in his tween and teen years in school because of it. He hated being associated with SW but started to come to terms with it and accept it somewhat in his 20's based on the fact he was willing to do scifi conventions from time to time.
Even if this interviewer wasn't purposely being rude(which he obviously was trying to provoke Jake), how do people, even intelligent people, see Jake as being rude? He was literally just answering the questions and getting a little annoyed that people just saw him as that bad Star Wars actor(which he wasn't to bad). Like, even if the interviewer wasn't rude, even in that scenario Jake wouldn't have been rude.
I think Jake was being a bit rude in the way he wasn't giving honest answers. if he's pissed off about certain things he should just say it instead of tiptoeing around it.
+The Angry Little Alchemist His whole demeanour was abrasive from the start. From his tone of voice to his facial expressions. Can feel slight passive aggression in everything he says. The interviewer was a dick for the drug reference, but other than that didn't really say anything provoking.
Jack Wade I hardly think its fair to judge him that harshly. Put yourself in the shoes of the young Anakin who 90% of starwars loving adults hated. Must be fucking insanely difficult to keep any kind of relationships going. The interviewer is a tool. Watch some other interviews with Jake hes normally fine.
He asked about the merchandise hoping to get a negative reaction from him. He knew that Jake threw away all his merchandise as a kid because of all the bullying he got from doing the film.
The kid was demonized for no reason. I never had an issue with him cast as kid anakin. And it was the interviewer that was awkward, Jake was totally fine imo. He gave the interviewer a lot more patience and politeness than I could've... But I digress.
Full sympathy for Jake Lloyd here. The interviewer was incredibly annoying with that shit grin on his face and it was so obvious that he was just marvelling in the fact that Lloyd had quit acting after doing Star Wars - as if that made him a complete failure.
@CoreyChambersLA ppl r really demonizing the guy, he seemed fine just maybe a little insensitive abt the situation. it's obvious Jake is not very receptive so making jokes like kid stars doing drugs should of obviously been avoided, but I don't think he was maliciously trying to like upset him or smth
I like that he is real. He has a career planned, and won't bite on the questions by the interviewer. Lots of movie folks live in the past. He doesn't. He is not buried in Star Wars, it was an episode in his life and now he can move on. Look at what happened to Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Those are cautionary tales. I bet he won't fall for their problems Well done Jake!!
I think the guy interviewing him just wasn't aware of all the crap Jake went through because of the role. Hence the insensitive questions that almost seem as if he was mocking Jake. This was very uncomfortable to watch, indeed.
No wonder he's pissed off. Seriously what was the need to even incorporate the "drugs" into that "interview" at the end. Seemed he just kept asking the same question but phrasing it differently. Stop making the guy relive something he wants to forget.
@@mharro88 Studying psychology can make you awkward and self aware too, he's not a moron, he wasn't given enough after-care by the Lucas team. They just got what they wanted from him and tossed him aside.
Thanks for your fÞkkings opinion on English dialects, Espen. I will be happy to come to Norway to give you some Norwegian lessons. Lesson #1 is Drittsekk. British and Australian accents can sometimes be a bit difficult for Americans to understand. A few of the words are completely different.
I met Jake at celebration 4 in L.A. we had a nice conversation. He was really nice but was exhausted from his red eye flight to the convention. It's a shame what he had to go thru growing up as young Anakin. I wished him the best
He actually was really normal. Alot of people would get pretty tired of all the condescending questions, especially writing you off because you dont want to act anymore.
"Kid stars turn to drugs" Lloyd should have said back:"yeah well so do reporters that are really nothing more than paparazzis... See ya in the tabloids and funny pages ya doushe...."
+BlakeFerret While that would of been nice, that would of been feeding the troll, that wouldve given these guys about double the views. So it was smart Jake was chill and said "Oh well thank you" rather than chewing the guy out with a camera to his face.
I think its equal parts a) the interviewer was asking him fairly presumptuous questions without really knowing Jake as a person. b) The weight of the franchise rested on the back of a 10 year old kid, in the biggest let-down in cinematic history.
George Lucas should have started Episode 1 with Anakin at the age he is in episode 2. The first made trilogy was in touch with humanity, the second trilogy was a work of self indulgence.
The responsibility is on the interviewer to keep the conversation flowing and not awkward. This guy was a total ass to Lloyd. He was only talking about Star Wars and tried to fish out all the horrible memories plus he kept referencing the horrible acting. I mean I was really annoyed by this interviewer.
Jake Lloyd was a good actor, it was just the writing that let him down. It's a shame that had to happen. Hopefully his future projects with editing will turn out better.
The writing had no effect, he didn't show any emotion in parts that required emotion, such as Qui-Gon's death, his line 'what's going to happen to me now?' was said as though the death had no effect on him
The writing did have an effect many previous star war stars even said that George Lucas has some bad lines and doesn’t know how to put them in action and since this film had a cast of yes men the lines weren’t called out.
