Looked to me like you had it sorted! A little calculated risk is acceptable and you were clear outta the county by the time it picked up any momentum! Well done!
All well that ends well. I was thinking cut one or both of the leaners first would have offered some more predictability. Maybe the dirt on your truck protected the paint from catching more blue.
I understand that everything we do logging is calculated risk and many don't understand that. Many people, even loggers or timber cutters, forget the most important part of that, mitigating the risk. Now I wasn't there and didn't see it but judging by the video I've been in a similar situation. Had a JD 440 with me too and I saw you have a cable skidder with you. You could have cut one of those trees and pulled it out of there and mitigated a sketchy damn time to a little bit of a challenging tree. I know that takes time and that is a big factor in the risk mitigation equation but only a few minutes and you won't have to think about how close that was for the next week and what would of happened if it didn't go the way it did.
@@Good.Fellers Haha fair enough. I wasn't criticizing or anything like that. I like a lot of what you're doing. Not a lot of Midwest/ East Coast guys on RU-vid and even less that can cut a tree without ruining a butt log or splitting the whole thing haha. Glad you're out there.
Great video thank you, I run into a lot of similar problems and I tend to avoid them or use machines to pull all that stuff down. On your end of the business can you get any money out of the black locust?
Yes, what you do is extremely Dangerous. I do agree if you do not know what you are doing leave it alone. Great Video as always Buddy. I got out once this Week for 1hour. Still recovering. Get very Weak. But the Cardiologist said an other 2months. Just off and on Wood Cutting of my Logs. Even when cutting the Logs up I use Extreme Caution as they could Roll. Looking Foreword to your Gas Can Video my Friend.
Playing crazy in the timber this week i take it lol. Quite a hairy situation. Excellent to see you made it out perfectly. Thank you for sharing this video. Totally awesome footage of some of the dangers we face out there. Keep it safe this week man.
If you haven't crushed at least 1 saw, you aren't learning. Luckily my only "death" was when I was pretty new to cutting and just clearing crusty snaggy regrowth (land had been timbered multiple times) and it was just an old beater Husky 51. Parts were a dime a dozen and already in my pile.
You are STILL light on your feet, and that's a good thing ! At least you are in ground dry enough to work ! About 5 inches last several days, and calling for rain next 5 days , this is the wettest winter in recorded history in my area, may have to use my cdl for a while, great video , stay at it while it's dry enough, sap is pumpin !!
@jtrocktree5409 yeah I bought a bunch of white oak on sand for the wet season. I’m pretty much planning on working 7 days a week for the next few months.
I think my dad would have cut the dead trees 1st.had me pull them down..not sure tho.its funny how everyone does things differently. I just worked there and did what he told me.
