Back in the day with all standing(virtually) crowds, the atmosphere was much more intense and ALL 22 Players knew the history of this match. In one match ALL 22 Players about 50 years ago were born within 12 miles of Glasgow so had this rivalry both Religious,Political and Sporting from Childhood:)

Celtic AREN’T a Catholic club, they have always been non sectarian, inclusive and would sign players purely on their ability. Jock Stein, the greatest ever manager for Celtic wasn’t Catholic, brilliant players over the years, Danny McGain, and all time Celtic Hero Henrik Larsson aren’t Catholic, while Rangers, officially Sevco since 2012 had a sectarian signing policy where they wouldn’t sign a Catholic for over 100 years. Most of the games you see here are fairly recent, with foreign players on both teams. Imagine how it was many years ago when it was almost entirely British players who all understood the religious divide. Rangers were entirely Protestant players and Celtic Catholic (with a few exceptions), with most of the players growing up in areas where they went to different schools because of religious beliefs. It was almost like people from different planets who hated each other before they ever met.
