Very unfortunate TCG developments this week...

I think having a bot to play against is crucial for integrating new players. Having the ability to play through and get practice with (and actually read) the cards in a low stress environment without holding someone hostage or getting negate locked/ hand trapped over and over instead of developing basic knowledge of the deck.

I think the "don't give up early" advice is god across games too. I've noticed playing chess online that more and more players will resign when they have board advantage because I took one piece they didn't expect to lose. Even more than struggle to play end games well or don't recognize someone positioning a stale mate. Playing to the end is vital for learning the game imo, no matter what game that is.

21:41 Quick reminder that this is the same guy that said how we need to treat Yu-Gi-Oh! as a "luxury" and that it is okay for cards like S:P Little Knight to cost top dollar since it isn't really needed to live.

Best thing bandai can do, is just buy the DCGO guy. Give him a salary and a few other team members, so by th end of the year they can have an official one up and ready to implement a battlepass (cause bandai wants money)

The thing with the alternate arts though, Konami kind of decided that ‘instead of alt arts, lets do alt rarities!’ And so sure we get scarce alts like the ghost girls from deck devastator, but now we’re getting loads of new rarities and stuff shoved into one box of the same packs (rarity packs. Like they just kind of spoil the whole concept of different rarities) instead of new arts for good cards. Whereas pokemon has stuck to the same (ish) concept of alt arts, rainbow/gold rares and the series ultra rare for longer than most players have been alive. Sure they’ve fixed some stuff like the abundance of rainbows from a while ago but at least they’ve fixed it, unlike konami’s attitude towards rarities, alt arts, and prizes

I like digital TCGs because they are less financial risk and more accessible for people like me who want to learn and try the game out of interest before investing in the physical card game. If more did what Pokemon did and offered in each pack a digital code to open more they’d have more sales. Cracking packs is fun and doing it digitally is just as fun. I’d like to try the newer games, but not really interested in paying to buy a deck then to take time to find an LCS to teach me.

Whats funny is that people are thinking that the ? on the Vanquish Soul mat means that Konami is gonna reveal a new Vanquish Soul monster, but its just the "random" option like in fighting games

For the new idea vs. redoing an old one conversation. The problem is that when these directors/writers do something new, they do it to an old property, but that defeats the purpose of redoing it. Because the point of redoing it is to sell to the original fan base. And if you change too much then it's not the same story and the fan base won't like it and usually when they change too much it loses the spark the original had so new people won't like it either (cough cough avatar). People want actual new ideas, instead of that crappy halo show written by people who don't like the original, why wouldn't they just make a new scifi show about a space marine, it could have even been jn the same universe. Then, they could do whatever they wanted with the story. The answer is because they are selling based on the halo name, but if they make a bad show anyway, then you're losing just as much, if not more money. The plan for them should be to actually make and invest in good new ideas and push them. There are plenty of indie creators trying to do stuff. And they've been doing stuff like hazben Hotel on Amazon or kipo on Netflix. They've both done well, yet they say original ideas don't have a chance. It's about choosing the right ones. It almost sounds lazy, like they just want the money/payout, but don't want to put the work into actually getting/coming up with good ideas. But big corpo wouldn't do that, right?

The world's trailer was showing both the TCG and duel links decks which is why silent magician was there

I don't think a lot of companies realize how important it is to have a digital sim available for your game. D&D was able to crush their competition by making their rules available online for free while the competition kept things behind books. Now D&D reigns supreme as the TTRPG of choice while other games languish in obscurity.

1:00:00 The notice on the Digimon site has been there for years now. I wasn't playing at the time, but from what I've picked up there were several fan sims out in the early days of the game. One of them started locking access to new cards behind their patreon and even went as far as advertising themselves on official bandai social media posts. Since money got directly involved and the creator was being so blatant about it, Bandai was pretty much forced to take action at that point and they C&D'd most of the sims and scared off the ones that were left. The notice isn't directly related to DCGO being released.

I've used the EDOPro bot extensively to deck test and just play in general. Specific decks are better playing against than others, for example the ABC deck plays enough handtraps to know if you are weak to specific ones, but not enough to shut down all your plays. It also creates a few interruptions when it goes first, giving you a real taste of how it is to break a board

That Triple Tactics, if it were in MtG, would be very strong when played with Forbidden Orchard. An easy fit for Vintage Oath of Druids decks and perhaps be strong enough of a synergy that spawns other decks in other formats as well. Who knows, perhaps there will be a YGO crossover one day too.

Barely anyone plays a creature during their opponents turn in mtg and it's not like that's the requirement for TTT in the first place, it's activating a monster effect, so a triggered or activated ability of a creature card in Magic terms. Ash is missing it's SS from deck counter and milling is only putting the top cards from library into the graveyard, so search library put into graveyard would also still work. While it's not easy translating some card effects from Yugioh to Magic (you may have to get creative in your wording or slightly alter effects) most people put barely any effort into trying. Think about what an effect does for your plays in Yugioh, then think about how exactly that would work in Magic, a game with mana costs, few searches, no extra deck and overall slower pacing (ignoring Vintage/Legacy) and if the game rules even support that kind of effect. It's extremely uncommon in Magic for a card to to something entirely unique, so maybe it's better to alter the effect a bit. Last but not least, search for similar effects on Scryfall to copy the exact wording.

The only issue with the first card costing zero is that flash and tokens are both pretty evergreen, so that card is not as limited in usage as you'd think. It should at least have a cost

About the Master Duel AI program, there's a bit of a misconception. Konami is NOT developing an AI, it's just creating the tools to allow other developers to interface with MD and make their own AIs with Python. I'm pretty sure that not even the Dark Magician and BEWD AIs were done in-studio. It means it's all up to the people who make the AIs decide how wide or narrow the scope of their own AIs are going to be.

As somebody who plays yugioh/lorcana/pokemon i like the prizing that lorcana and pokemon has, pokemon updated their prizing for the winner of regionals from 5000 to 10,000 and an automatic invite to worlds which is big and i feel other card games could do something like this, lorcana championships give you a champion playmat that you cant buy at your local card shop which usually sells for good money i would just like to see yugioh do more for the competitive community

Hell yea Domain getting some love

Yugioh grew 3% in sales YoY for 2023 in Japan. Pokemon tcg grew 37% and is now 3 times the size of yugioh. Other games are also in hyper growth phase, there is definitely something to worry about there. Also, One Piece is now 75% of what YGO is, if the trend keeps this year, they will catch up

When it comes to consistency hits I find them a bit better than banning parts of an archetype that suddenly makes it unplayable. Snake-Eye is grindy, yes, but it's some of the generic end board cards that also suck fun out of the duels. At least players can still use decks they like, just a bit more fragile.

in regards to the yugioh to magic cards. ash blossom should have used the channel keyword which means you can discard it from your hand and pay a cost(they could put 0 but honestly it should probably be at least 1 blue if not 2 as counter if they search effect does kinda exist already in another card thats 2 mana and says players cant search decks this turn) as for the evenly matched it 100% needs to say non-land permanents as in the form you were given its completely useless and at best wouldnt do much as it requires your opponent to go first and have a low cost haste creature to attack you with since once you play your first land of the game it now becomes a very bad selective sweeper that is delayed until around turn 4-5 at best in a ramp deck where you still need to find 2 extra mana to foretell the card first before casting it for the 7mana and even then you opponent will get to choose what they keep meaning it wont remove anything of value since youve either sped out extra lands or permanents to make up for the high cast cost once foretold unless your using rituals but those wont really affect as much either as you opponent will still probably be keeping 3-4 permanents and if your using rituals youll be using 2+ cards to remove 1-2 cards on average if it was to be fixed it would basically be the same as you showed but add non-land before permanents in all spots and it would become somewhat playable but still probably not good as the game already has different forms of sweepers that while a bit more restrictive in what they destroy are cheaper and easier to use. probably one of the easiest to compare recent sweepers is farewell that for 6 mana sorcery can remove from play your choice of all creatures, enchantments, artifacts, graveyards or any combination of those choices.

The lack of official simulators is the reason I never learned to play Flesh and Blood. In fact, it is their policy that they will never make an official digital simulator. I know why they said it, in response to Wizards murdering the MTG competitive scene, but it doesn't matter. Sometimes I want to play the game and I can't get friends together to do it irl. Good online simulators are essential in the modern era. Disney was legally right, but I still think having no simulator official or not is a mistake.

I find it interesting how it's possible to have so much hate for a game that hasn't even released yet.

I'd say the M:tG cards here are more true to their Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but kind of have issues as Magic cards. Many of them just don't fully work within Magic's structure. I don't remember the Professor's conversions exactly, but I think they were mostly more reasonable as magic cards, but I think they lost some of the nuance of the YGO versions, so I'd more say it's a different take from different backgrounds.

A very interesting question I'm surprised no one has ever asked, do you think the main reason people like formats like time wizard is because they happen to possibly like limited style formats? Hum I wonder do you think if there what's more alternate formats that were designed for a limited style of play people might actually like them????????? This is just my thoughts on that.

My problem with all these hero shooters is that it's very apparent how little the execs want to invest into the game and sometimes how little the devs give a shit about implementing the cool shit. They made this whole ass cg movie and all it ends up being is a game that's monetized up the wahzoo. There will probably be like one map a year, with a battlepass every 3 months. Seasons will just be new skins and maybe 1 new hero. Then some lame ass minigame modes for "lore". This merry go round is just tiring. Especially when you can tell this could have just been a mass effect rpg.

I want TCGs to just open online clients and just ask for a monthly subscription fee of $10 a month and to give you all the cards and only include Gatcha for cosmetic changes. It unfair to include paid pack opening when you are already paying and opening real packs.

People just want their Star Wars to feel like Star Wars. Entertainment first.

Personally, I’m sick of hero shooters. They feel cheap, generic, lazy, and boring at this point. Even Overwatch got tired shortly after it released due to patches that really killed the game for me. I also find the gameplay loop less than rewarding. Cosmetics are the least interesting reward for me.

Everything ABOUT Lorcana is dumb. Their rollout was dumb, the fact that they won't release another print of the first set is dumb, organized play is nonexistent... It looks like a really neat game and I love the artwork, but... dumb!

As mtg and Yu-Gi-Oh players and game designers, we can confidently say those cards would never make it into MTG. They're pretty accurate 1:1 translations, but not much taken into account for Magic the Gathering other than verbage.

Regarding YuGiOh prize support, it’s nonexistent. At my locals, the price of admission is supposed to be offset by everyone getting at least one OTS pack. My LGS doesn’t have any OTS packs. So, what’s the incentive to do better, or even compete?

Calling Magic/Pokemon/Yugioh the big three is weird, because Magic is really the only one that is entirely a cardgame. Sure it has a couple video games, but it's a card game first. Yugioh and Pokemon make so much money from merchandise, that I've never really been sure how to actually rate them compared to Magic. If I go with shelfspace, Yugioh has about the same amount as One Piece and Digimon.
