I totaly agree with you about remembering the 80s. I was a teenager in the late 80s and when I look at music now i've often thought thank god i'm old enough to remember a time (the 80s) when music was far more imaginative, soulfull, fun, serious, enjoyable. The 80s had the lot didn't it.
RIP Vesta the very first time i heard this track i loved it and twenty odd years later i still do you will be missed another great artist gone from the world of RnB
Great Video I love VESTA big or small she is a very talented beautiful and smart woman i love her Thanks for posting this old skool video i have never seen it before Thanks
Freedom from the turmoils of life, may your spirit and soul add another shining star to the skies above. And may we, each night, when we gaze upon the heavenly beauties, be shown the path to enlightenment. Bless you Vesta, for all the love, music and songs that you shared with us.
this song takes me RIGHT BACK to '86. my sister & I used to sing along (instead singing "once bitten, twist eye!") & dance & laugh, we LOVED this song! My sister has since passed away, but Im sure she'll welcome Vesta in, along with all the other Angels. May u rest in paradise Miss Williams! Xoxo
I was indeed saddened by the death of this talented woman with such great and powerful voice. I have her CD titled relationships and it is just so fab!!! Miss Williams may your soul rest in perfect peace!!! May God grant you enternal rest now!!
I know you're in heaven watching down on us. You brought us 2 classics in this song and "Congratulations" and they will always be among my all time favorites. RIP you music will always have a place in our hearts.
A lot of that passion that we are missing in today's singers manifested and was nurtured in church choirs. And good old fashion creativity has been thrown away for whom has the most sex appeal to kids. Hell if our parents were suffering through my generation of music late 70's/80's I can only imagine what my kids will have to reminisce on.
Me and my mom loved this song back in '86, and my Mom still loves Vesta very much. Think I was 7 going on 8 when this dropped; sweet memories. And Vesta's face was cute as hell despite her chubbiness. She's gorgeous in this vid.
~~~~WOW WE LOST YET AGAIN ANOTHER TALENTED COMPOSER JUST SEEN HER STORY ON UNSUNG SHE WAS MAKING A COME BACK THE MUSIC TODAY CAN'T COMPARE TO THE RAW TALENT OF YESTER YEAR SHE WAS YOUNG~~~RIP MS VESTA WILLIAMS
vesta, truly uder-rated. big voice and even bigger spirit. it's so sad that the world never got the chance to really appreciate the gift that was her voice. she will be missed. R.I.P angel
R.I.P. Miss Vesta, sing with the Angels. Thanks for this recording. I have the actual 45 from,I bought it when this song first came out. in late 1986. This record also got played on the original Hot 103 WQHT - NYC.
WoW She sounds really good ..I just listened to all her songs here but I never heard any of them before, nor heard of her ..but then again I was on an island in 85, 86 ..RIP Ms Williams ~Heavens Newst Angel
i just wanted to say go vesta your on my baby momma's list. first off. i love you girl u make me happy.u mean alot to me. i like the videos.. you have me hypnotized. and mermerized.
Very well said! It was soooooo much fun......the ultimate "You Had To Be There" to know. Heaven to me is a huge disco with all this great music playing!
So sad...wait for the Unsung episode featuring Vesta.... greatness gone too soon!!! RIP Vesta...Heaven has got some choir up there...you're in good company lady.
This is one of my favourite 80 classics,the mistery in the sound captivates you from first listen and her vocals are awesome.THis songs proves you can produce a pop song and actually be good music.But you need to be a musician to recordthis and todays music is recorded by Djs,so called"producers" copy n pasters...everything but real musicians. Timeless classic
Oh my gosh! I didn't know our dear Vesta had passed away. Such a FABULOUS talent who passed way too young. Thank you Vesta for all your wonderful music. RIP precious one.
I lov this video.. vesta is awesome youtube is awesome and i am awesome i found her... very beautiful lady. like so many others.. wow good is good all ways...
I'm a vocalist/writer myself, since I was a kid, in my 40s now & I can tell you there are at least TWO music businesses. The 1 you see in media & the real 1, that keeps artists like Vesta, & unique, amazing artists like Patti Austin (who's been recording since she was 5, just turned 62, still making records etc) from spotlight, b/c of image (when they were heavier in weight), & because, in Patti's, & Vesta's case somewhat also, they can't be stuck w one label.
Good info Mission. She's still remarkable funny and down to earth (last time I heard from her). It seems like that whole great musical vibe has faded away like a glorious ancient civilization that has left us only monuments, some artifacts, and some texts that we now struggle to decipher.
She was one of the 1980,s and 1990,s artist gifted ,black, powerful, The Pop Media tried to look past her and Phyllis Hyman, Phyllis Nelson, Gwen Gutherie, and Cheryl Lynn. She will be miss love you all.
Hahaha OMG I'm having such an 80's night ! Keep finding more and more vids that have been posted here. Think '86 must have been my year, most songs I like are from that year. Back on memory lane ;)
Her look in this video reminds me of Jill Scott's new look. Amazing how much reach, influence and how much of an impact this woman made on R&B. Truly and unsung diva of R&B and Contemporary Jazz.
In a way, Vesta is a success because over two decades later once you hear one of songs like this, you want to get her albums. Not every singer has that effect on you. Vesta has outlasted millions of lesser talents.
OH NO !!!!! SAY IT ISN"T SOOOO!!! heard it on the Tom Joyner morning show. WOW A Beautiful Singer will be missed by so many.RIP VESTA! and condolenses to her family and friends.
J'ai eu le plaisir de l'avoir vue chanter en direct lors d'un festival de Cannes dans les années 80, pendant le direct d'une émission de Dechavanne qui s'appelait à l'époque "c'est encore mieux l'après-midi"! Elle, c'était "THE VOICE".
OH THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!!! I used to wake up early to catch Ms Vesta Williams before school. This album had bad timing, it came out at the same time as Janet Jackson's (Control) album. The studio pushed Janet's album & let Ms Vesta hanging.
I was suprised to hear that Vesta would often sing backstage for Chaka Khan back in the day when she was so out of it, they would turn the mike off for Chaka and Vesta would do the show. Once Chaka fell down while on stage and Vesta did not know it and kept on singiing. Her voice was so strong, reminds me of Phyllis Hyam - both talented ladies gone too soon.
I love Vesta, and I always thought she was beautiful way back in the day when she was fuller figured. She is still beautiful to me, and I have always loved her voice.
I am so addicted to these beautiful black women of the 80's. To me it is so hot... for real though.. I love vesta williams and once bitten twice shy. good song. i love the black women of the 80's like the pointer sisters, cheryl lynn, mary davis rip mary.. I love em all
Synira..... You know I never thought of the comparison you made about Vesta & Chaka... I think that it fits!!! Great observation! : ) Thanks for the post "onecharmingbastard". Love the song and still love & miss hearing Vesta's vocals.
Yeah, someone did mention that she is an active user of FB and that if you write to her (something sensible) she'll write back. PS, she lost the weight over 10 years ago, but it is great that she has maintained it.
