Vet Reacts! *The Real Hero* Roy Benavidez - The Green Beret That Took On An Army With Just A Knife 

Two things Roy never knew; #1 he never knew how to quit., #2 he never knew how to not be a hero.

My great granddad, Jacinto, was a Green Beret in Vietnam as well as a tunnel rat due to his small frame. He was a true badass and I like to joke that he could've whooped my ass the day he died, and probably still could from the grave. His beret adorns a hook on my wall as a reminder of his strong will. I like to think that in spirit, he is now one of God's warriors. Great reaction as always, Kit. Salutes to you and the warriors in your lineage.

Braxton Bragg was a Confederate army general in the Civil War, and in today's social climate, the army caved to pressure and changed the name. There are plenty of Army heroes that could have been chosen instead of Liberty.

I get why the Army decided to get away from the name Bragg, not only was Braxton Bragg a traitor to the United States, but he was also one of the worst generals in the Civil War. There were so many good U.S. officers and grunts throughout all of the history of American conflicts, they could've chosen any one of them.

I was driving down to Fayetteville and saw all the signs changed to Fort Liberty and was like "fucks that" before realizing they were talking about Ft.Bragg

I typically enjoy watching multiple reaction channels for TFE videos specifically, but to be completely honest I normally skip the beginning/end parts of the reaction videos unless they are giving history background. At the end of this video, however, I could tell that Roy's speech really hit hard for you. I'm not a veteran, but I had a fairly similar response when I heard that part. Thank you for your service

21:41 Fort Bragg was renamed because it was named after a Confederate General; and to be fair, while I can understand the side that wants to keep the old name for the sake of tradition, on the other hand... Well, Ignoring the fact that Bragg was a Confederate and a slave owner, he was just a straight up bad general; so bad that his own men tried to assassinate him, and it's widely agreed that his blunders as a General was one of the contributors to the Confederacy losing the western front of the war. Fort Lee? I can understand being named after Bobby Lee, because if nothing else he was a great general. But Bragg? Really? But also, yeah I agree with TFE; it should have been named after an actual war hero like Benavidez as opposed to something like Liberty.

Throughout history. I still remember that Athens had a military leader who was so successful against high odds that he saved Athens from being overrun and destroyed. Once the fighting was over, the leaders of Athens were so scared of him that they exiled him to an island. Crap's been happening forfrickingever! A buddy of mine was on the staff of one of the Pentagon brass when this notification came out. If I remember the story, some bureaucratic beancounter decided that a great way to trim the budget would be to stop paying benefits to these veterans who had earned them, and bureaucrats being bureaucrats, NO ONE knew WHO had done it but it was obviously OFFICIAL. And most of the brass were focused on other things and apparently just shrugged and thought "Bureaucrats are gonna bureaucrat". Luckily, a well respected MoH recipient went on a media blitz and then the brass realized that some bureaucrats shouldn't be allowed to bureaucrat and my buddy said a quiet lynch mob was forming in the Pentagon's halls trying to find out which bureaucrat needed their neck stretched (hint: usually all of them do. 😛). One of the things I love most about Nic's videos is, whenever possible, he lets us hear the amazing people speak in their own words. And, yeah, I tear up with you too at the end there. We need to flood the Pentagon with letters to get the former Fort Bragg renamed Fort Benavidez!!! The 90's dream team is the official basketball team of all time with Jordan, Magic, Bird, etc. The 70's is where I grew up and my 2 older brothers were of draft age but weren't picked, 1 mile outside of Boston. Poor as poor can be. Roy epitomized growing up poor and struggling which gave him strength and character which took time. I admire him and especially his willingness to fight for the US during a difficult time, and he was so dedicated to his troops.

One of the best reactions I've seen in a while; I enjoy your reactions to Nic's ribbing of the Marine Corps, and your reaction to Roy's MOH acceptance speech at the end was great, too. While I generally look more positively than negatively at Reagan's presidency (I'm center right politically) cutting veterans' benefits is beyond the pale. Apparently it was some bureaucratic bean counter that thought it would be a good idea to trim the budget, but it never should have been an idea in anyone's head, let alone gotten that far. If there is one thing that should never, ever, be touched, it's fucking VETERANS' BENEFITS. Fucking vile. On the note of Fort Bragg. I think we can all agree that Fort Liberty is an objectively dumbass name. I get not wanting to name it after General Braxton Bragg, who was a Confederate general anymore. I fully support the idea of naming after a more recent American Army hero and I think a petition should be made to rename it to Fort Benavidez in honor of a real American hero, and plus in the current political climate, naming it after a Hispanic American would go over quite well. As for Bragg, he was such a shit general during the Civil War that he was much more of an asset for the Union than the Confederacy. So, in a roundabout way, that fort was named for a Union hero (sarcasm) I'll agree with Nic here, if we're in the business of changing the names of some of these military installations, why not use some of the war heroes from the 20th century. Why not Roy Benavidez, Dan Daly, Audie Murphy, or many other of our heroes?

You're a Marine so I understand what you mean by Army people trying to make Marines out to be stupid but from what I understand the requirements for the ASVAB to get into the Marines is higher score than to get into the Army which shows Marines can't be as dumb as the Army.

I met him once in the early 90s, when i was stationed at Bragg. Surprisingly, he was just an average sized guy. But i could tell even then, he medicated with alcohol, and he was very stiff and in pain all over.
