At 0:37, I wonder what the current draw at that same speed and the stock tire were. I removed an Shinko SR-244 from my MSX because it had way too much rolling friction, made that wheel feel like it was fighting tread like wind over 20mph (on that 43 mph wheel). I replaced it with the Shinko SR-241 (a dual use tire) and it was/is fine 2000 miles later. The tire on the S20 is lower knobs and softer than the Shinko and other moto tires.

@@Ubeogesh I am a reasonably big, tall guy, so I don't trust any of the entry level wheels that weren't designed with the likes of me in mind, and I am not about to pay the big money for the higher-end models that could support me adequately, just to potentially find it isn't something I enjoy, as reselling where I live wouldn't be easy. I have never even seen someone riding one here. I wish the likes of Yamaha (who are now making e-bikes) take a crack at making one in the future.
@Ubeogesh
@Ubeogesh 2 года назад
@Hell-Knight If you don't mind the lower range\max speed, I recommend V11. We have heavy riders in V11 telegram community (130 kg or more) using it without an issue. It has a no-axle design (pedal hangers bolted directly to the stator) so the weight of the rider is not an issue. It's reliable and time-tested at this point. I own it, done a few amateur-quality repairs on it so the wheel is far from perfect condition (i have an earlier revision with bearing issues, so I had to replace the bearing - now the stator is not aligned perfectly, the driver board has restored traces and a replaced capacitor from physical damage) yet it rides like a charm for the past half a year. As for the Abrams it was clear from the very first community media coverage that this wheel has issues with overpowering and\or cutouts.

Just gather more info man. Very few people bought the Abrams and even Adam has noted at 1:57 there were 5 cutout reports. Get a more time tested wheel and you're going to be fine. I can personally recommend either V11 (if you are fine with its lower performance and range) or Sherman (if you don't plan on abusing it with bumps and you are not very heavy - the wheel is known for its less durable axle and rim).

what you should do Adams when you communicate with the Chinese manufacturer is to ask him for a safe speed chart recommend according to the battery charge, example between 80% and 100% of the battery the speed must be lower than 60 km/ hrs between 70% and 80% of the battery the speed must be less than 50 km/ hrs, between 50% and 70% of the battery the speed must be less than 35 km/ hrs and less than 50% of the battery the speed must be less than 25 km/hr. maybe he would accept. it is certain that indicating that the recommended speed is 25 km/hour at all times clears it of any recourse by the user against his product.

This could be the batteries BMS i discovered if you give small impact hit on just about any BMS they reset, Or cutout, all tho refering to your cutout remember as the battery gets lower you must drop your top speed bro your prolly asking too much power from the motor with battery at 70% wind and hills plays a factor too, drive an e-scooter since you can full throttle it with no cutouts you will notice how it gives less and less top speed each time as battery is been depleted also higher temperatures will also steal power away wich also plays a factor the hotter a motor is = less power. But still gives everyone the benefit of the doubt it could also be manufacturing probelms of the board or motor or BMS.

From what you have said I would bet the wheel just had not enough torque to balance you after that bump. Either the wheel just underperforms (there is not enough safety margin for some reason) or the bump was too big, wind etc. Have you compared the motocycle tire with the original tire? What if the motocycle tire has just too high of a rolling friction and could be a contributing factor?

Glad you are ok Adam... thank goodness you wear gear. On the tire thing, I wish that experienced riders could buy wheels as a package, but incomplete. I have 3 EUCs, an MCM5, Nikola plus and Sherman... I have after market (Chicway) pedals on all three, the Nikola tire is horrible and needs changing, the Sherman street tyre I don't like so really needs changing... I don't like the stock Sherman pads, don't like the normal oval pads on the Nik or MCM5.... I think that experienced riders should be able to buy wheels with no tyre installed, the motor in place but not tightened (for easy removal) no pedals and no pads. That way, when you order the machine, you order the tyre you want, the pedals you want and the side pads you want... and you don't pay for the parts you are not going to need anyway. I have a drawer full of stock pedals and pads that will never be used and when looking at other new wheels to buy, I know there will be another set of each in the drawer... and additional expense of buying after market things I want. I hate buying an expensive new wheel only to have to pull it apart and fit decent tyre/pedals/pads... if one didn't have to pay for the rubbish they come with ,,, so a lesser buy price, it would be better imo

I sincerely hope you are ok. I respect you and your work. If you change stock components on a vehicle without following a service manual, the manufacturer shouldn’t be held responsible for the potential impact on safety. Recommended PSI on tires is usually more specific in the manual than the range listed on the sidewall of a tire. It is possible that when you hit the bump, deforming the tire, making the upper half make contact with the wheel well… thus the cutout, same as if you got debris stuck in there. Having to overcome that friction is what I would guess is why the wheel was overpowered and cut out. It is possible that the wheel is simply faulty, but the circumstances of your crash seem to indicate otherwise.

@Kekafuch
@Kekafuch 2 года назад
I am hoping Adam can use his clout to pressure LeaperKim in making a statement. It would give me piece of mind as I have an Abrams with 700kms. From what I gather online… The cut outs so far seem to be from Europe. USA looks like they received Abrams in the last few weeks and will be interesting to follow any incidents. I have emailed LeaperKim requesting an explanation and they just ask for my motor code and told me NOT to update my firmware. The Sherman will cut out if someone is fiddling with the rear 5V light connector and shorting it. EUC Upgrades has shown that the Abrams rear light is not sealed and water ingress. I am wondering if water ingress into the Abrams rear light can cause a short and cut out the wheel like on the Sherman?!? Hopefully Adam can consolidate all the cut out info and come up some more information for the public! It would be greatly appreciated.

I think EUC companies should encourage riders to use advanced logging\telemetry (like we have in EUC world), and even make it work without an app connected (not everyone is eager to launch an app every time the start a ride) - i.e. the wheel should have an internal always running "black box" logger like airplanes do. Implementing such a system will slow down the momentum at which the industry is progressing but it is absolutely needed to keep improving the reliability and trust in the devices.

I agree, logging and more redundancy, small consumer drones have been doing this for years now, with machines like this, it is even more important!

@@-meganeura do you have an idea how there can be 2 independed driver boards where if one short-circuits the other can keep driving the motor? sounds super complicated, although this feels like the holy grail of EUCs

I agree. That cutout is unacceptable. The city I live in has roads designed with a lot of the manholes in the path of car's tires... a flaw in steet design... and hitting them at any speed is a hard bump. So, I've learned to be attentive to manholes, and deliberate in my steering. When I drive a car or ride a bike, I avoid manholes. I'll do the same with an EUC. I think anyone who drives or rides will agree that's a no brainer.

After my comment on your last video, this video just proves my point on EUC´s, I´m sure this can happen on any model or make! Machines are not perfect, and when you depend on electrical components with no redundancy, to be able to balance itself, no mechanical forgiveness to catch you... brother... you are going down. Please be careful, life is too precious.
@Ubeogesh
@Ubeogesh 2 года назад
While this "can" happen on any wheel, it really doesn't. Time proves that only certain models are bad, others just never cut out. Thousands of riders can confirm that. And with Abrams this issue was known since the beginning (Adam even told about it in the video but he dismissed it).

Suuure, and you should always be prepared for this mentally and with gear. That said there are wheels that are more reliable than others, that rarely get user reports of cutouts that aren't caused by the driver or for no real reason we can externally measure. And I guess the only way to gauge that is to never buy the newest models before they have been around in the wild for a while and you can see if you find any scary trends in the feedback on it.
@AuRowe
@AuRowe 2 года назад
@@heymelon exactly never buy the newest batch, and dress for the slide not the ride. The rate of failure is an issue but op comment is claiming that having failure however rare it may be inherently flaws euc compared to other pev's. It's just the risk IF it breaks on you is higher because you will fall off when theoretically a scooter you could glide to a stop if it breaks. That's not a solid argument against EUC's, it's a solid argument that we the consumers need to pressure the companies to prioritize the safety feature on all wheels over more and more powerful everything. Inmotion cutouts do happen too but overall I just trust their quality so much more than any other brand. Hoping V12 HT has minimal cutouts.

Euc, fun riding but after a few months I had to give it up. Had lots of falls, one mid speed fall, big bruises, one overextended my thumb (a month to heal) and the last one was a hit on my left shoulder, small fracture where my collar bone meets the rotator. 3 months later and my shoulder still hurts but have full movement. This was a permanent injury, so I gave it up. This was also full gear. Gonna stick to scooters.

Shame, you waste such valuable experience - instead of learning lessons and improving you give up. I've broken both forearms at the same time when I just started in 2017. Left didn't heal perfectly, it is a bit limiting when exercising. I learned what I could from that accident and proceeded riding. Had a few minor issues\crashes since then but still, every time I learned the lesson and became a better\safer rider. As for scooters, I am not convinced in the slightest that they are safer... maybe only the slower scooters are safer (because they go slower, duh)

If one was to take personal transportation and boil it down to the simplest elements, you'd get the monowheel. Originally I wasn't too impressed by these things, esp. when they first came out. I saw the risk for accidents and back then they were under-powered. But they've come a long way. Imo this is the height of modern tech. You have this small little wheel that rides as fast as most cars. In comparison I think bikes give you more stability and safety but nothing is as portable as a monowheel so I think I will seriously be buying one of these in my future.
