Mine was a piece of junk. Slack in EVERYTHING. Motor wattage was falsely advertised. I contacted Vevor and requested a return. I had it back in the crate and ready for pickup. They contacted me and offered a partial refund. I declined and said I had no use for it since its so loose and its ready to be picked up. Just arrange the freight. They never replied and after 2 weeks I messaged again and asked why it wasn't picked up yet? I was going to contact my credit card company if not resolved soon. Within a day I got notice from Ebay that a full refund had been issued. It's still in the crate but at least I got my money back.
Man I just ordered this one and it's my first one and I plan to teach myself how to use it. After watching this video I'm not to sure if buying this one was such a good idea. 🤔 I hope I don't have all these problems that you did. Thank you for the video buddy.
The rattling ur having when u move the compound forward and backward should be gone when u tighten the Allen head bolt in the middle between the ways. If u take the bolt out totally the compound should push forward and backward without using the wheel. Just tighten the Allen bolt it should solve ur problem at @ 5:30 minutes
Thank you for sharing the experience. The only advantage i see now is its weight. It might be worth it,but you wouldexpect a factory to output stuff that is up to specification and with the quality checked. Having to put in helicoils, drill an tap holes, even scrape the bed. That is prettywild if you ask me. I love the collet for the spindle, making barrels is a thing a lathe must be able to do. I would love to see hou cut barrels with this thing while it would be really proof of concept for me. If you want to get your hands on some gundrills and reamers, check me out. Greetings, Jeff
Hey there, I’ve got pretty much the same lathe, mine is the MX-750 and my belts just broke a week ago and I’m having a really hard time sourcing out new ones. Might want to look into finding some backups because I think I used my lAthe a total of four times before they shredded apart. Have you looked into any replacements.?
Wow! Amazing to see the results of subtractive manufacturing🤪 This looks less rigid than my jet wood lathe. I bought a Precision Mathew 10”, which still needed some massaging, but much closer to a real lathe. You get what you pay for these days😎
The potentiometers for the setting the speed are shit on these machines out the box, mine had a mind of its own and would run when turned all the way down, until I replaced it with a better one. It came with a tapered roller bearing at the chuck end of the spindle that failed, I lost top speed of 2500 rpm down to 1700 rpm. I replaced both bearings with angular contact bearings and would you believe it, it runs like a dream now. I think they all need some work to get them capable of producing good work. Hope this helps some people that have just bought a Chinese mini lathe.
I don’t know even two years ago. There was plenty of information about these cheap lathes out there. They’re pointing out all these problems you’re having you buy to a price point and then you have to decide is your time and effort and money worth it to get that price point up to a level that works for you. Most of all people buying these cheap lathe are doing so because of budgets they’re buying a $600 to $800 lathe and most likely only have $200-$400 for tooling. Also buying because of weight and space restrictions.
I did a one-year review on this leather. It has served me well it’s not the best thing in the world but it gets the job done for what I do with it. Thanks for watching a video.
Dude !! You bought a lemon ! I just bought a smaller one , been using about a week and just normal maintenance and user error. But i guess thats how it works sometimes.
Are use my lathe probably two or three times a week, making pins and bolts all kinds of stuff The repairs I made seem to have fixed it. I did find a Hardinge HLV I might pick up if I can find a three phase diverter for a good price. Thanks for your reply to my video.
The more videos I watch about these Chinese lathes, the more I'm convinced on saving my coin and buying a Precision Matthews. It's not that I couldn't do all of the various fixes, it's the fact that the Chinese won't build it correctly in the first place.
It isn’t a great lathe. But I have done some good work on it. You just have to take your time. But what I use it for and it doesn’t take up much space it’s working out for me
I have not the same vevor lathe, but a very similar one. Mine had/has a few of the issues you described. My bed was good, but the tailstock had to be shimmed with an 0.6mm shim on the back side. Otherwise it would have been aligned at an angle. (Not good for drilling) The adjustment of the tailstock is also bad. I also had to fix the clamping mechanism if the tailstock. I have the geared version. If you are not careful you can break the gears. The safety switch attached to the cover was lose, so the lathe did not start at all. The hole was not bored out correctly, so the MT5 center point did not fit. And there where a few other issues. But I am not really disappointed. I payed around 1100€ including shipping and customs. So I thing -at least I - got what I payed for. Even a used machine under 100kg with the same capabilities would have been much more expensive.
I also had a issue with the mt5 but only had to cut the center shorter It isn’t a bad lathe. Just not put together very well I’m going to keep mine. Good luck with yours
Ive just bought the same machine, in my case its called Creworks 1100W but its almost identical to yours. The biggest issue(so far...) on mine is that v-cuts of the saddle dont match the angle of the way-cuts, im pretty sure that the saddle cuts are at 90 degrees, and im absolutely sure that the way cuts are less than that, making the saddle ride on just the tips of the way cuts. How did yours match up under there? :)
I re-surfaced them. They actually had a different profile over the length no matter how I adjusted them I would get tight spots so I had to resurface them. I scraped them first, then polish them. That’s not good them riding on the tip of the way.
@@maxxbear5014 How did u scrape them? i cant imagen a re-scrape of the entire bed ways that will be straight and at the right angle by hand... No this issue must be resolved before any kind of use! :)
@@stoffeoscarsson6572 you can always send it back before you start messing with it. Maybe they’ll replace it with one that’s in better condition. you can scrape it. Just take some time with a 36 inch straight edge.
Well, I really don't know What mini laythe to order now Was gonna buy today 7×14 or 8×14 was looking @ Vevco now I'm worried need Your guidance, I have some Limited experience with a laythe any suggestions ⁹
Well as you can see I’m not the best at picking a lathe either. Some people have told me it’s just the luck of the draw. If you’re not that experienced try some of the import brand names. Then you’ll know if you could call them if something goes wrong
I recently bought a wm-210 off Amazon, my lathe arrived in pretty decent shape. I have been machining 316 stainless steel with carbide tooling and 1/2×1/2" holders, speed about 358 rpms and I have had decent success. I bought it from Amazon with free delivery: Haymakn 8" x 31" no tooling included. I prefer to get my own. I have some cheap and some pricier carbide. I don't use the cheap stuff with the stainless, you can really tell the difference. I need to grind some HSS tooling for some custom work. I installed two cheap igaging dro's that have really helped to getting the measurements done accurately and quickly. If you tighten things up to take out the backlash, it will be hell to turn the knobs so the dro's are a great upgrade. Out of the box the runnout on my three jaw chuck was close to .0001" , so I haven't messed with that at all. All in all I think I got lucky. It's still a cheap lathe but it works! My tooling is going to far exceed the cost of the lathe. A quick change tool post in on Santa's list, but I can setup two cutters on the tool post and that's fine with me. Good luck
There is no serial numbers on These layths, quality control Is week, when you by one expect take apart and clean Everything. Takes many hrs The one shown here looks nice and clean, I promise You this is not the way its going ot arive. And without serial #s you don't know if your getting a new uint or So.e recycled unit also selling it could be a issue I contacted them they don't care.
I wouldn’t of made a video if it was just a couple things wrong with it. It was the right size and I can move it around myself. I made that tool post riser a half a tho cut at a time. That was a long day but now that it’s on there I can make some decent cuts and you have a happy new year also
@@maxxbear5014 yeah I guess same thing with my 7x14 I want a biglath but its too big for my shop.. so for now fixing up the 7 incher. Some idiot was trying to sell a southbend 9 or insane high asking price. guy took it apart and painted it white probably put it together wrong and was wanting 4800 bucks. I'd much rather have an original one that showed its age and life history then some thing with a stupid white paint job. Its a tool not a shelf from walmart.
@@cobre7717 yes when it comes to tools you definitely I want to see them in their original state I’m good with my lathe. Just take some things slower it’ll work for me
You are lucky my vevor the bed is all different thicknesses two bolts stripped for the head stock gears are misaligned the threaded rod is mounted crooked the carriage has a bow in it and crooked the chuck has no back plate and heaps on run out ,the cross slide well heaps to do there they are garbage they did give me over half the money back but I should have sent it back I've had it a month and still can't use it every time I fix a part I find something else wrong expensive scrap metal 😆😆
Sorry to hear that. I have just learned how to use the one I have. But I am always looking for another lathe. Any older lathe I think would be better. Logan South Bend Star even a craftsman.
Thanks for your honest opinion on this Vevor product. Had seriously looked at these, except for the fact they have no powered cross feed, which Vevor does not really disclose. Think I'll up my game to an American product.
Great review! I know I’m rolling the dice by buying this same lathe and hoping it’s a good one but can you help me out with something? Do you know what the thread pitch is of the lead screw? Or at least if it’s metric or imperial?
I bought one just like it, but a TECHTONGDA wd 210v different "brand". Same lathe. I guess i got lucky with mine. Only problems was had to redo all the ways on it including carriage. And the chatter. Rest of it was fine. None of the little things was messed up. Pretty much decided that when buying a lathe like this that's not brand name, its a starter project lol. Lots of things to improve on them. Good luck with yours.
Like many of us I have one of these "less than perfect" Chinese mini lathes. Mine is a smaller 8 x 14 but it has had a number of issues that I have had to deal with. Buying second hand "old-iron" often means that you inherent another persons problems and buying NEW you expect it to be decent; but with these Chinese things it is very much "pot-luck" whether you get one that is up to scratch. After-sales support and long-term parts availability? Not a chance! So next time I shall buy an old but well-cared for Myford or Boxford. Congratulations on overcoming your initial issues @Maxx Bear and I hope you get many hours of trouble free use out of your machine.
Thank you for your insights I have been using it and if you just don’t make large cuts it works very well I just did a large boring job and everything went great
@@maxxbear5014 Yes, my little machine is fine as long as I do not try to make very deep cuts. 20 'thou is fine. I like the process and I am in no hurry so that's fine. Best of luck with your projects. :D Dan.
You only get for your money what the manufacturer decides to spend on the production for your benefit.....if you want cheapness he ensures you only get the bang for the buck you will want to pay.....quality is a factor of cost and if you want to have a cost factor that is top of your wish list .....welcome to the cheap lathe you bought......you only ever get what you pay for.
I don’t think you only get what you pay for I purchased many things that I think are a great price and a good product. If you were purchasing a product that is supposed to perform a certain task then it should for the money they are selling it for
@@maxxbear5014 Yes, you can get lucky,.......just buying home brand at a higher price instead of foreign made is not a solution due to home brand stuff having a much higher labour content that the West cannot overcome.
I did watch a bunch of videos of people who bought this lathe. None of them badmouth it too much. I’m always looking for a heavy 10 in my area if one comes up I will probably buy it but this one still works just have to make light cuts
I use this little lathe. All the time for small stuff from just cutting down a socket to fit in a close area to making small bolts. Don’t get me wrong I still feel ripped off a little bit I am planning on converting it to a AC motor to give it a little more power. But I am always looking for a replacement.
I’ll get you the model number and name tonight. It isn’t a bad lathe for me. I mainly just make bushings. And things like that ,,,that don’t need really tight tolerances I’m not saying I can’t get a tight tolerance. It just takes a little more effort.
I’m actually looking at two south bend heavy 10’s. One in Pittsburgh and one in Philadelphia I might sell this one. I might be buying one of them. Still thinking about it. Lol
I will get you the run out tonight. I haven’t checked it since I bought it and first run it. I do want To say if you’re thinking of buying this lathe. I would definitely look at other models this one isn’t the greatest. The only thing I think is good about it is the long bed and the large inch and a half spindle bore definitely has come in handy
