Boy, have I got a fight scene for you. Scaramouche (1952) starring Stewart Granger. The final swordfight in the opera house is seven minutes long, filmed in a single take on nine cameras with 600 extras involved. The fight moves through the theater, up onto the balcony, into the lobby and back again. They got it all on the first take. Two people nearly died shooting the scene. It’s classic Errol Flynn style fight choreography on a massive scale.

AHHHH! It happened! They showed a shot I worked on. I did the blood sim for Rickon getting nailed by the Arrow when I was a Junior FX artist! The studio I was in used Phoenix FD, and the task was made that bit more awkward because the stand in Rickon geometry we had tracked moved quite a bit through the 3D space as he gets shot and falls. So it needed a large simulation grid at very low seperation to get the detail. In the end I think we did a combination of sim blood, and a slight splatter on comped on top to add more and more droplets. I'd do this in Houdini these days and It'd be no bother at all. I'm not 100% if we had any of the oner shot, but we definitely did a bunch of the arrows landing in the other shots. Replaced a lot of tips on weapons like spears and arrows. I for one replaced the tip of a bone knife Tormund drives into Karstark's neck and a few spears poking through the Phalanx. I was also delighted at the time that I rendered a turn around for a spear and the compers used individual frames from the sequence to fill in the background of the phalanx. Just animating them with a transform node in Nuke. Good times!

“Real life doesn’t have a narrative, things just happen.” Kind of a beautiful quote from Niko there
@Legionnaire726
@Legionnaire726 2 года назад
It's the best way to write as well, you shouldn't write a narrative, you should create a character and a world and the story should happen "to" the character not "around" your character. If your character can't react and respond to the situation in a realistic way in the world you created you don't have a good character, it's too shallow.

@@SchrodingersDinger All of that talk of the reactor being able to "explode like a nuke" and "raze Minsk to the ground" and how their "heroic efforts saved the world" was propaganda put out by the Soviet Union to make themselves not look like the incompetent fools they were. The truth is that A) the reactor *could not* explode like a nuke. They literally physically cannot do that. A nuke is designed to release all of the energy in the reaction within a millisecond (or less, ideally). A nuclear reactor is designed to release it as slowly, and as controlled as possible. B) Even if it could explode like that, the size of the explosion they quoted wouldn't even set car alarms off in Minsk, let alone have destroyed the city. Not even Pripyat (I think that's the name), which is basically a stone's throw from the reactor comparatively, would've had more than windows blow out at their quoted detonation. C) The reactor itself, as I recall, isn't what exploded - the steam system did. It over-pressurized and exploded. There was then a later secondary explosion most likely caused by the casing of the rods (I forget the exact metal composition, but it contains a highly alkaline metal) falling into the coolant, but I don't think anyone knows for sure. It bugs me how many people still believe the propaganda from this. This event, along with Three Mile Island (another case of human error, iirc) and Fukushima (not exactly the reactor's fault it was hit by a tsunami and earthquake, and all-in-all survived it pretty well), are what gets quoted as "NUCLEAR BAD COAL GOOD COAL SAFER" etc, when, objectively, nuclear power is one of the safer generators available. Their main downside is storage of spent fuel, but there are ways to mitigate that with designs *not* based on uranium-238.

It's not what horses would do in real life if they were suddenly shot or something, it's just an artefact of how horses are trained to perform that stunt. Part of the cue is to pull the horse's head to the side.
