Fun Facts about this episode from creator R1665:
1) - By this point, I had fully committed to the VG Exiles and dropped MK vs. SF Invasion. Ibuki and Makoto were set to have major roles in that series, which is why they appear in this episode. I wanted to do something with them, even if they were to be cameos.
2) - There was a LOT of trickery involved getting this video onto Newgrounds. At the time of the original release, Newgrounds had a 10 MB upload limit for .swf files. VGE2 clocked in at 16.61 MB and Tom Fulp graciously increased my upload limit to accommodate.
3) - One of the dreaded demons of Flash is the frame limit. Back in the day, it was said that the Flash timeline could only extend to around 14,000 frames before crashing. This meant that a 20 fps project could only be around 11 mins and 40 seconds in length. I managed to cram this entire project into the timeline by using code that controlled the timeline with sound clips, leaving only transitions needing to be animated in real-time. Pretty much any time you hear someone talking, that's one frame. The timeline would advance to the next frame after the voice line finished. To give you an idea of how powerful a technique that was, the art scene at full length would extend to over ten thousand frames just by itself. My technique got it down to just slightly over two thousand.
4) - That same technique made this Swivel version a pain to produce. Swivel does not recognize my code, so I had to go back through the whole project and manually extend each and every one-frame stop point. Thankfully, Swivel allows for the stitching together of separate .swfs.
5) - This was the first episode to feature voice acting. The cast included both myself and my sister. Looking back on it, there's a very valid reason why dedicated voice actors exist and trying to get normal not-acting-inclined folks to do voice work is generally not a great idea. I realllllly don't like my Guile voice. I couldn't watch my own video for the longest time because I would cringe myself all the way to closing the window every time I heard it.
6) - Gambit is my favorite X-Man and he makes one hell of a villain. This presentation is actually not unique in that regard. This version of Gambit was actually loosely based on a demonic doppelganger of Gambit that appeared in the pages of Nomad #7, published way back in 1992. I have a few bagged and boarded copies and I have previously given them out as gifts to people familiar with the episode.
7) - The original video was frontpaged on Newgrounds and received a Daily 3rd Place trophy as well as a Weekly 5th place. As of today, it stands at a rating of 4.65/5 stars.
