It makes sense that it was a collab boot. It's possible that the foam midsole was spec'd by the vendor, for whatever reason.

@@Beaneeman67 Thursdays are constructed well from inferior quality materials, like the foam used in this odd Viberg collab. At Viberg prices, that midsole should have been veg tan... like in just about every other boot Viberg makes.

@@underwaterbasketweaving8638 This boot does have a midsole, you can just make it out when he's taking them apart. Viberg did and still use high density foam (as far as I'm aware) to line the cavity between midsole and insole as do many brands. Cork is also very cheap (so not really much of a selling point vs high density foam when you think about) and just as comfortable and is probably not even noticeable on a double leather sole shoe. Stop bashing a brand just because its cool to do so. The uppers are in fantastic condition and live to see another sole. Most Thursdays are falling apart by the time they need a resole. These are also made in Canada where labor is more expensive then Mexico where Thursdays are made. At the end of the day I do agree Viberg are a bit overpriced but jesus christ anyone would agree they make a fantastic boot compared to high fashion garbage etc. My 2c

People just like to get upset and love to bash things these days when they don't meet a high specification threshold like cork fillings, leather midsoles etc when it doesn't make much difference comfort wise which is the main thing

@@kieranorgan4189 I'm fairly sure that cork filler is very cheap and I suspect a good quality foam insole is not going to save them any money. As far as comfort is concerned I would expect the foam to be better, particularly if it is memory foam which should mold to the foot like cork yet have more cushioning. It is this attitude that nothing can be improved from the way it was done a hundred and fifty years ago and the old ways are always better which is just not true. I do think Vibergs are overpriced myself (despite owning two pairs bought heavily discounted) but I'm also sure that the reason they put a foam filler in the welt cavity is because it does a better job than traditional materials.

You guys sound like the Viberg fan club. Get off it , anybody who knows anything about boot construction knows why cork or leather are better materials than foam. If high density foam is your thing ,why don't you just get a pair of Thursday boots at a fraction of the cost.

@@kartikchary I do own Thursday Boots and Crockett & Jones and Red Wing and Viberg and Barkers and Loake and Cheaney and Carmina. And I know that cork is not expensive and is full of unpleasant binding agents. Poron and similar foams have been developed and improved for running shoes and various sports shoes for 50 years and companies like Nike and Adidas spend huge amounts on R&D to improve their shoes (Nike $500 million per year alone). Maybe they should just put cork in their shoes and save the money ? When someone runs they hit the ground with a force equivalent to 3 times their bodyweight and these shoes have been developed to have thousand plus mile lifetimes and cushion far more effectively than "natural " materials. These traditionally made boots are fashion boots (Red Wing said this themselves when talking about their Heritage line) and if you buy a certified safety boot it will be full of the modern materials you are so against. Fashion boots can be well made and well constructed but this myth that old fashioned materials are good and modern materials are bad is complete nonsense.

@@UnknownUser-rb9pd What do you think about sheet cork vs the slurry? Sheet cork is thicker and probably doesn't migrate as much. It takes the shape of your foot and retains it. Maybe that's less cusion ultimately than the right foam?

As a cobbler that has used both when resoling my own shoes, you literally can not tell the difference in feel. Not a big deal IMO

Do you actually know the quality of cork he used or didn't use? The quality of foam he removed? Disgusting is a strong word for not having the exact details on either.

Not sure what you mean by "true boots".. Many, if not most, people get their Vibergs from stokists, especially here in Canada. Stokists usually ask for a unique make-up for the leather upper, outsole, etc. or maybe the standard construction (goodyear rather than stitchdown), but the core components and the internal construction of the shoe never changes. All my Vibergs including the shell cordovan models I have bought from Canadian stokists such as Brookly Clothing Co. By the way, I disagree with the cobbler's assessment regarding foam, Viberg been using foam for years, and because of the leather midsole, it wouldn't make much of a difference. They used leather before actually, but they switched to foam because they found that leather on leather might squeak after some time. So they're not really cutting a corner here. Is Viberg overpriced ? yes maybe. But the things he is picking on are ridiculous.. Viberg afterall is a casual work boot, not Edward Green.

As mentioned in the video for the price point on THESE boots they are not worth it. There are other models that might be but from what is seen in these seem like the company is starting to become mire of a brand name compared to older models

@@MMM88X Squeaking is a valid issue but that doesn't have anything to do with having a foam filler. It can be arrested by introducing a layer inbetween the leather midsole and insole. For reference please check the construction of Nick's boots or White's to get a better understanding of how that's executed.
