Nicks Boots: nicksboots.com/
A tribute to my grandfather, Howard "Bud" Baker. Howard was a WWII A-20 dive bomber pilot, completing multiple tours in the Pacific Theater during his time in service.
After the war, he went on to run a lumber mill in the Portland, Oregon area and was married to his wife, Helen, for over 50 years with whom he had four children. He also made a mean Tom and Jerry around the holidays. Our first padded-collar boot designed for work and adventure.
While most boots are meant to be thrown away after a few months, Nicks are built to last. When your boots start to need some servicing, you can send them in to have them resoled or completely rebuilt! Nicks Handmade Boots are serviceable and last years longer than a mass-produced boot. Since 1964, Nicks has been making the highest quality boots on the market, right here in Spokane Washington. If you're tired of your old work boots wearing out, upgrade to Nicks and enjoy the most comfortable boots on the market.

What leather is showcased in this beautiful pair of Howards? Is that the 1964 Walnut or Max Support Walnut... or something else? BTW, I can't get enough of these Nick's build videos!

I would have thought that the exposed stitching on the tread of the soles (as with all their boots) would be the first thing to wear out as soon as you start walking in these boots?

The exposed portion does. But I believe the way it is sewn locks every stitch in to the sole. So the exposed portion wearing with walking doesn't affect the portion holding the outsole to the midsole.

Why are the stitches (the sole) directly exposed to wear ?
@TheDagraner4576
@TheDagraner4576 Год назад
There are grooving machines that could cut a channel for the stitches, but they're generally not big enough for these lug type soles. Beside that, it's a chain stitch. As long as the upper stitch is in place, the stitch will not lose its strength.
@TommyNitro
@TommyNitro Год назад
The previous commentor beat me to it. The exposed stitch can wear out with walking and it won't affect the stitching holding the sole in place. That's in addition to the glue and the screws on top of that.

I'm so confused about all the nails and screws in these things, seems like there's a bunch of them directly under the soles of your feet, like if you drop off a truck and mash your feet, a nail would stab you.
@steakmann
@steakmann Год назад
The screws aren't long enough to actually reach the insole and when the nails get driven they hit a piece of metal and are flattened. it's smooth as can be on the inside once they're finished
@steakmann
@steakmann Год назад
@@sumityadav2177 Not really, when the bottom of the sole stitch wears out there's still the the vertical part of the stitch. The thread is very hardy and acts almost like a peg when the bottom has worn out. Also the glue and screws are more than enough to hold it on as is

@@steakmann So after the exposed stitching on the outside of the sole has worn away, the only thing holding the sole on is the glue; glue has a tendency to split open after a short while!
@steakmann
@steakmann Год назад
@@redblade8160 Brother let me tell you not this glue. I work in bottoming and once that glue has set and you put the sole on, there's no way you're ripping it off. It takes an immense amount of force and plenty of rebuilds come through where the stitching and screws have been worn through but the sole still holds on.
