Imagine being so good at what you do, that the manufacturer trusts you enough to send you stuff in order for you to rebuild their product. Let that sink in for just a moment. Quality quality work - well done Steve
The Viberg boots are probably the best made modern boots I have seen on your channel. Both materials and construction methods are top quality! Beautiful craftsmanship, Steve!
@@Spazik86 Steve has featured designer shoes, and they cost just as much or more. However, the stacked soles on these designer shoes were made of fiberboard.
For casual/dress boots, most definitely. They’re Almost as tough as PNW work boots! The materials used here are just more delicate. If Viberg used heavily leathers and thicker soles, they would be work boots!
The thing is that a boot that you get blisters for months to break in and is so heavy that you drag your feet after a couple of hours, is not good for the health of your feet in the long run. Simply unwearable. Sturdy but what's the point? You can make an even "better and sturdier" boot made only by metal. It will never be destroyed and won't need new soles ever! Would you be able to wear it and use it?
Goodness gracious thank you, I keep forgetting to comment to tell you how much I need these videos. I apprenticed in Florence, and started a business back in Central Asia, so much of my time is taken by the business side of things, watching your videos reminds me that I have to keep the craft alive and spread it, because realistically the math is as you know is that: leather is sustainable and resoling your shoe is sustainable for the environment. Love your vids, thank you, Sir.
Awesome job! That mismatched pattern would have bothered me too. I'm honestly surprised Viberg sent it out that way but glad they worked with you to correct it 💪.
I think your the only cobler that would put those boots back to factory specs. Almost no one would put all the unseen nails back in. Thats why you stand apart from the pack.
❤❤❤Steve you truly are the best. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can’t say enough to Brett Viberg for helping out and doing what he did to make this possible and to I hope I’m spelling it right Pavan please forgive me if I’m wrong and without the three of you this wasn’t possible. Cheers and thank you to all three of you I have so much respect for you all all the best and keep continuing.
@@pavanmex thank you so much Pavan, I appreciate everything you,Steve and Brett did to make this possible. I can’t thank you enough. I’m grateful that you made this all happen. I can’t wait to get my Viberg on my feet. Cheers!!!!
Does Viberg have blind quality control employees? Surely, that particular pair must've been seconds or quite possibly thirds? Thank God Steve is available to fix Viberg's obvious screw-up. Great job, Steve! Now the boots look great 👍
Im stunned by the fact they sent you last and new vamp rather than taking over the job them selfs, really nice they support the coblers. Great work! Cool you got a pair from them as well as what looks as unfinished factory seconds and one boot to cut in half. I just cant belive Rose Anvil didnt cut the pair of vibergs in half first on youtube
Cobblers helping Cobblers! I love it! Awesome work Steve, you're way past ready to make your own boots from scratch! Pull out that Shell Cordovan you been saving and get down to HAMMER TIME!!!
Very unique construction makes a quality product. Your devotion to craftsmanship is reflected in the factory assisting you in recrafting these boots. Thank you for exposing us to a world of quality foot ware that we might not ever experience.
You knocked this one out! Amazing job! Oh they will be triggered with the sharpening, but just wait till they see that you pulled a rose anvil! They will die!
Frankly I am surprised they left the factory that way. Given the price, the QC should be better. I hope Viberg covered the cost but surprised they didn’t just send a new pair
As always: you nailed it. Viberg's attention to detail when it comes to finishing is a joke. And what you started with looked several magnitudes better than the MTO pair they sent me.
@@InGrindWeCrust2010Total headache. They actually remade my pair twice before sending me a final offering complete with terribly clicked leather (one shoe had a very pronounced scotch grain pattern while the other didn't), wonky stitching throughout the upper and a french binding that broke loose after the 7th or 8th time I brushed the boots. At $1400, you can find far better options.
I agree, I wouldn't purchase a pair of their boots without having it in my hands to see how well they clicked it. I have never had any issues with their construction but their clicking leaves a lot to be desired from their price point. If they were cheaper it would be more excusable.
Steve, this is just amazing!! What quality and craftsmanship! I still say you should put a few seats in your shop like a Chef’s Table in a restaurant! I could watch you do this all day long. 😊
That was very cool of Viberg to send out what you need to make a happy customer, I'm sure that solidified your friend's business with the company even further.
For some fortuitous reason, I have come across some RU-vid channels that feature superb skills. Now I measure all like channels against that impossibly high standard. Steve's channel is high on that short list. His cobbler channel is incomparable to others. Stunning job on the boots.
Your really going to get them going. Broken sharping stone to resharpen your through away blade. Your going to have them pulling their hair out. Beautiful job thanks for taking us along.
These were a very well made pair of boots. Such a shame that same attention was paid to the grain of the leather. But I have every faith in you to rectify it❤
Awesome video. A learning experience as always. Never heard of Viberg's but the quality of the build is excellent. You once again demonstrated your skill in recrafting the boots along with the other projects you presented in this video. Interesting discussion in the end about the shinki horsebutt.
Impressive level of service & cooperation. FWIW, there are several elements present that might warrant this being broken into multiple videos that would garner more views. The gold leaf impression, for example, would make a good short. Cutting a Viberg boot in half certainty deserves it's own video with a title along the lines "Viberg Boot Construction Revealed" , or something similar with key words along those lines. Your craftsmanship and knowledge deserves to be seen more.
Just love watching you work. Blood stained hands at one point on this job. Thanks so much for for taking us along for the ride. See you on the next one. Bravo!
Good on Viberg for helping out, but it would be better if they had never left the factory looking like that. Bit disrespectful to the creature that gave it's life for these boots to pay such little care. Ultimately glad these will get some use and escaped landfill.
🥾 Viberg recrafted! Excellent work and video Steve; always amazing at what you can do with that 🔨 HAMMER! I worked in a shoe factory in college (circa 1978) and it caused me to pay close attention to detail to this day. I often check out/try on two or more of the same shoes because of issues (leather color/texture differences, uppers mis-aligned as a result of being twisted on the last, etc.). Normally, people can't do anything about it after the purchase: but then along comes Steve. 👏🏾
You enjoy the challenge and you enjoy working with quality goods. That combination is one of your happy places. It is obvious in your voice, and a plus for your viewers to hear.
I grew up in Boyne City. I remember how much the tannery would stink on hot days in the summer. I remember when they tore the old tannery down and they used the crushed brick to make the high school track. It's all condominiums and custom homes now.
I felt your sweat over this one and know you love what you do, but for the price and quality of this boot, not putting matching top leather in the most visible part of the boot is a quality control issue that the company itself should have replaced free for the customer as it was a second quality boot they should have initially sold at a discount, as other companies do. You're a Sainted Masochist at what you do sometimes, Steve, and this one got you into Shoe Heaven.
I absolutely love my Vibergs! I do think they make the best boots quality wise!! They are normally better than to make a mistake on the leather like that! I can’t imagine them getting past quality control being that different. Although I do have a pair of Truman that are pretty different between the 2 boots. Oh well I guess it happens. I would have returned them to Viberg and had them take care of it instead of paying double for the boots basically!! Oh well to each his own!! Great work as always Steve
I was a Viberg customer for over 20 years then they ceased production of work boots. They are old school 90% of their work boot line was nail down construction that explains the love for nails. The overbuilt tendencies most likely carried on to their designer shoes and boots with the heavy stitching and excessive use of nails. Yeah it would have bothered me that one shoe was mismatched.
Interesting....I never heard they stopped production of their work boot line. I was at the Viberg factory last week (Oct. 2023) and they had plenty of work boots for sale. Staff stated they were all made in their factory with the same construction methods used for their "Lifestyle boots".
Those were some beautiful boots and that was fantastic getting to see a lot of the process of making the actual boot!!! Big Thank You to Viberg for being so helpful and accommodating with supplying the necessary parts to make the boots a matching pair!!!
Thank you for this amazing look at high quality craftsmanship ! Love to see you explaining everything in detail while ripping through every task making it look effortless
Another one!! Great job on all of them, and thanks for showing the problems as well. Some people just show all the good stuff, making them look “too perfect” thanks again Steve!!!
Loved the new video! What a fix! Like the Rolls Royce of fixes! Cool that you worked with Viberg and now, after seeing you take it apart and put it together, I want to buy a pair of their boots! I also loved the shout out to Weston at Rose Anvil! Love his channel too! I bet you wish you had a bandsaw!! 😂
Steve great video for the details of shoe making, in awl of your abilities . Am sure customer will be thrilled . Watched this during a noreaster in Delaware/ tropical depression. 😂😢
Wow these boots didn't match at all. Steve to the rescue! Side note..I would love to see you do a breakdown of SOTO Boots. I recently got a pair and based on what you've taught us all; the pirarucu printed boots I got look amazing.
I love the design of this Dr Sole sole, which I find very original with its Kevlar-like appearance. Of course, the result of Dr Steve's surgery is still exceptional.
I enjoyed every minute of this video Steve. Great content. I love love love that leather and especially the color. I am never concerned with a name brand on shoes or the cost within limits, I just want a well built shoe. It seems men's shoes are constructed better then women's. Maybe I need to switch to wearing men's shoes HAHA!
I had a cobbler in Pueblo send my Indies home with the welt stitching looking just like the ones you replaced, they were hanging off the edge so he just put a little bit of die on it and called it good.
