Sam Treat is a sophomore at Garfield High School in Seattle who just received the Vicis ZERO1, a new high-tech helmet designed to mitigate the forces thought to cause concussions. More here: www.geekwire.com/2017/vicis-f...
Connor Spero there really isn't too much adjusting with this helmet. That's why it's important to get your measurements perfect. There's 12 different sizes of this helmet
ItsDoozee it’s not too high, from my experience you can loosen the chin strap and pull the face mask down a couple cm then re adjust the chinstrap so the helmet stays tight like that. That’s what I’ve down the past 7 years of my life lol.
Good call little brother. I wish I had a helmet like this when I was slam tackled during practice back in the 60's. Thankfully I survived the impact but I know what they mean by seeing stars.
Problem with helmets is that the added safety makes players take bolder risks. Let's hope this new generation of helmets is not met with harder hits because it feels safer inside one of them.
Marquizzo Quizzo I mean the nfl will fine you. And I don't think it's the fact they "take bolder risks" it's they keep getting faster and stronger. But look at the 1980s the players hit just as hard if not harder and more violent it's the fact that the problem is just now getting more exposure.
Yeah, the athletes are definitely getting stronger. I'm just comparing to rugby where spearing, head-to-head, and other risky collisions are less likely because the players have very little protection, so they're psychologically more inclined move their heads out of the way during a tackle.
SOME do... ideally you tackle properly (head up) and lead with shoulders, and let the equipment keep you safe... not play like an idiot because you're wearing safer equipment. It starts with coaching, and a willingness to sit players who play out-of-control. That aspect of the game has a long way to go...
I’m a lineman and I cut across the line on a pro right counter right play and smoked a kid the only problem was I hit him with my face mask luckily no concussion but the impact went to my head down my neck
Helmets reduce the severity of concussions, and the odds that a impact will even cause a concussion. If the helmet is able to absorb and displace the impact, than your brain won't slam into you skull as hard thus minimizing your concussion, if you even get one. Clearly you takin' far to many hits to the head. To say concussions have nothing to do with helmets is silly, if that was the case than why would you get anything newer than a VSR4? That helmet's sole purpose was to prevent the skull from cracking on an impact.
For as much as these things cost, the shipping presentation should be better. It also looks like the facemask sits way too high... you're looking through the wrong part of the mask!~
I'll allow that it's better looking and WAY more affordable.... just saying it might not be the 'safest affordable' helmet. In fact, they generally cost more than the Xenith helmets.
I agree... if the VICIS had the "cool factor" of the Flex (and maybe the pricepoint), it would be on backorder for sure. Hoping the VICIS is the real deal, but cost needs to keep coming down.
Not according to this.... www.playsmartplaysafe.com/resource/helmet-laboratory-testing-performance-results/ My son has a Speedflex and it's a good helmet, but heavy. If buying today, I'd consider the Speed over the Speedflex... and over the Xenith or Schutt offerings. But this helmet is worth a look now that the price has dropped a bit. I'd like to see it at a $500 pricepoint, though.
The Revo Speed is a nice helmet, as well. My son wore one with USA Football and I liked the way it fit and looked, and he said it was just as comfortable as his Flex. I don't know that the Speed Flex isn't that safe, but other tech is starting to pass it up. Glad to see the constant improvements after a long, long time of NO improvements.
That kid knows nothing about helmet fitting he's looking right into the bars and the face mask is recommended for lineman not sure what position he plays I must've skipped over it
