Great video, very informative. I have a question, when did the replicas start putting that plate on the inside? I'm a SAINTS fan and have several SAINTS helmets from replicas to authentic plus several mini helmets but none my replicas have that plate. Of course mine are a very old. Thanks as always, look forward to more videos.
To my best understanding it is because f you can wear the 140$ Helmet people are less likely to buy the 340$ helmet so they put a plate in making that impossible.
I've collected close to 20 helmets from over the past couple decades because I got interested in all the safety advances that have been made since the stone age when I was in school. I don't collect NFL helmets though. I look for field used helmets from a high school or small college. They're fairly easy to find at good prices with the original decals still in place. Since they have been used for one or more seasons they can be a bit bunged up, but to me that adds to the interest.
I agree with not wearing a work of art on your head. We cant get the proper helmet color anymore so I have about three seasons' worth of damage from playing guard. It is a neat look but I could never restore the helmet to a "like new" condition.
I just took a closer look to the NFL helmet testing results from the past few years and I don’t get why Riddell discontinued the Speed and replaced it with the Speed Icon even though the Speed was ranked higher every single year. And what is a Riddell Foundation? It’s been around for several years but I never heard of it before.
I have dolphins helmets from the team. I have Schutt and Riddell. The decals on the side of the helmets are a very thick vinyl. You can tell the difference immediately.
So if it says “authentic” on the title of the helmet I can put it on? I’m trying to buy a Texans candy red helmet but it doesn’t have a photo of the inside of the helmet to assure me that I can put it on. I just dont want to spend 300 plus just to not be able to wear it.
Large is probably the most common size, however you should definitely make sure it's the right size for you! Check out this video to learn how to find your proper helmet size : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Jy2IzD1x1Y.html
You can take off the plate, just know that it'll only be a plastic shell behind it with no padding. You should be able to wear the helmet the, but remember it's not safe to play in!
Helmet idea: green bay gold Schutt f7 vtd, black egop-II-dw-nb-vc, black or white sportstar victory T-Rex hurricane chinstrap, one pair of black Douglas EZ Pro chinstrap buckles and one of black sportstar chinstrap buckles, 20 or 40% smoke visor with green bay gold unbranded under armour visor clips, black Facemask hardware. I'm building this helmet by myself right now, I hope the Facemask and the Facemask hardware will be available again soon so I can continue building my helmet. Greetings from Germany.
Maybe it's just me, but while you were talking, I stared at the helmets and it looked like the decals on the Speed replica appeared to be noticeably smaller than the authentic.
How does one get into getting reselling these helmets. I see a guy on TikTok that has hydrodipped, signed, custom, authentic helmets and I can't find any research behind it
It’s tough to be a licensed vendor, there are lots of knock offs out there which the NFL and distributors often pursue and shut down. We have been working directly with Riddell and Schutt for many years. You need to set yourself up as a functioning business with a tax ID number, insurance, etc. and then prove to the manufacturers that you can deliver.
I have a Miami dolphins Riddell full size helmet out of box over 20 years old. I purchased in Orlando at a collectable store. Is it valuable and how much? I think I bought it for 250 dollars. Thank you.
Do the "authentic" speed-flex team helmets still come with all the air bladders it's a must for me? Up till now I've been buying field use helmets and creating the decals myself to get bladders, but I'm struggling to find a good silver shell for a Lions helmet.
Steve, I enjoy your content on these helmets. However, my two cents regarding Riddell? Whoever is in charge of quality control at Riddell should be fired, stat! The decal jobs now are UNACCEPTABLE! The last three AUTHENTIC helmets I've purchased have had bubbling or separation issues entirely. A Rob Gronkowski-signed Bucco Bruce Tampa helmet had its decal peel up completely from the crown of the helmet a year after purchase, despite being housed in a display case, away from sunlight. A new Seahawks Flash helmet I purchased directly from Mill Creek Sports for a Kam Chancellor autograph session came to me with ripples on the left side near the front of the helmet. It's so evident that it's laughable someone actually boxed it up from the factory instead of performing the job properly. I also purchased a new Vikings helmet off of eBay, still in the original box and plastic, and one of the horn decals has a giant bubble in it. I've also seen several pictures of these helmets on eBay with noticeable decal bubbles and ripples despite being new. Unacceptable quality for the price paid. I still have older Riddell mini helmets from the 90s that have held up better. Ridiculous. Are you seeing a lot of issues with decals in the new helmets?
A good way to check is to see if it has the little NFL shield decal on the inside of the helmet, other than that, there are a lot of really great authenticators out there who know what to look for in older helmets. Hope this helps!
For a SpeedFlex, size large includes a head circumference of 22"-23.5". Hope this helps! You can also check out our size charts in the description of this link! www.greengridiron.com/collections/helmets-for-field-use/products/riddell-speedflex-football-helmet?variant=42639112929449
one thing that i think he failed to mention was the paintjobs ... look how the replicas are PLaint white while the speed flex have more like a glitter finish to it
Hello everyone, does anyone know what "decal sets" mean?? I'm kind of new on this football helmet world but I'm trying to get one for myself. thanks! :)
Hello and welcome! Decal sets refer to the logos or stickers on the sides of a helmet, as well as things like the stripe that goes down the center. Hope this helps.
I always thought authentic meant genuine and the only other option was a replica. I didn't realize Riddell could label something as authentic but at the same time say it's a replica. Don't take this personally, I'm just trying to understand how it isn't false advertising on Riddell's end. If I spent over $1,000 on a customized "authentic" helmet like that Miami one, then found out later it still wasn't the same as they use in the NFL, I would be pretty bummed. In my opinion that's always going to be a highly detailed replica, not authentic. Again, nothing personal with you. I just don't understand how Riddell can do that. Maybe they should call it "authentic style" or "authentic look" instead.
I get your confusion. Replica and Authentic helmets are both technically just collectible helmets. The closest to the real deal is the SpeedFlex collectibles, since they're closest to what the NFL is actually wearing on the field. I think it may just be Riddell's way of making cool looking helmets that are available for anyones budget range.
I'd 100% buy a authentic vikings helmet but they only come in one size and i wear a small so unfortunately I wont be buying one. if you add mediums and smalls to the authentic helmets you guys would make way more money you should think about it
Unfortunately all of the replica and authentic helmets come straight from Riddell and are one size only, and we're not sure if that'll be changing anytime soon. As far as authentic helmets go, they're a bit smaller than the standard SpeedFlex Adult Large collectibles. You'd be surprised that you may be able to fit into an authentic!
Hi Steve, can I please have a helmet for free? I’ve been wanting a helmet for my whole life I’m a size small. please I just subscribed to you I will do anything😢😢😢😢
