This happened to me yesterday, this morning I called my local Victor dealership to get the part. They don't sell the part because of liability. So now I have to order it online and wait three or four days to get the part instead of going directly into town and buying it. At this video help me determine that was the exact cause that wasn't quite sure of what my problem was but it was doing exactly what this was doing. Thank you.
@SoatMon
@SoatMon 2 года назад
I hope you get it going, they aren't very complicated so if you put in the kit it should fix it. Remember not to contaminate the inside with any oils since it will have oxygen under pressure. Good luck!

@@SoatMon Five minutes after I took it apart I had it back together with all the new parts and working. I just had to wait 3 days for the part to come.

I've got a Harris torch, & made the same repair. Couldn't find anywhere else (local welding supply, or any other recommendations) to even consider checking it out; because they acted like it was a huge liability. Such a simple repair. I did wear nitrile gloves, for all of the cautionary tales of even finger oil being dangerous with the high pressure oxygen. Great video/repair!
@SoatMon
@SoatMon 3 года назад
I had the same experience. Local shops wouldn't touch it, sell me a kit or talk to me about it. Said it was too much of a liability. They won't even fix them, they send them off. Can you imagine! One of the simplest things to fix. I know we are talking high pressure oxygen but it's not a rocket ship. I'm amazed at how many people go through life scared to death when they don't even bother to investigate things. Thanks for the comment, sorry for the rant.

It was nice of you to do this video because as you say it is good to keep these old regulators going. Actually there is two of that very model here in the shop. I will remember this video like your one on cleaning batteries on toys. It seems like some things are not like riding a bicycle, I always need to go back and relearn some things. Thank you. Well the garden and the orchard are really going well this year for a change. The deer have found the okra already so we put up the electric fence and my wife said we repelled a skunk already....it sure smelled that way! Hope you are having a good weekend. Thank you for all these bits of wisdom they are very helpful.
@SoatMon

It's amazingly simple to do and I get to keep my regulators. I'm glad you are having a successful gardening season. Our flowers look good but everything edible is hopeless this year. We had a skunk go off under our house one time. It was awful. The smell was so strong we didn't recognize it until we moved far enough away that you could tell what the odor was. I guess it overwhelmed our noses. Took days to go away, we thought we were going to have to burn the house and start over...

Very informative, clear and concise. One correction needs made. You neglected to separate the slip ring from the outboard face of your old diaphragm and replace it onto the face of your new diaphragm. It is clearly visible on your old diaphragm - appears white and like only partially adhered. Allows brass cover to slide and not tend to twist diaphragm against housing as cover is tightened. The slip ring can easily be missed and appears as part of the diaphragm. And a note of interest - the seat assembly - the defective part, comes apart easily by unscrewing the "cap" off the stem. That part with the hole in it usually comes out in pieces (deteriorated).

It's always the seat that fails triggering the blowoff valve which does not need servicing. I have a rather large pile of SR 450 etc bought at auction so I notched a piece of pipe to clear the nipple, gauges and blowoff valve then welded some angle to that so I can clamp the fixture in a vise. I grind the chamfer off the socket I use for the seat nuts (use a SIX point socket) to get full engagement. (The chamfer on sockets guides the broach during production and is of zero use to anyone using the socket, I remove them for any thin nut.) The seat part number normally fits multiple regulators so I keep seats and whole kits handy.

What would make a regulator "creep up" on the regulated side? I use for gas welding and only need 7-10 pounds. But when I shut off the torch the pressure will slowly (few minutes) increase on the gauge to full scale. Then I have to bleed it off to the 7-10 pounds and then it regulates fine. Wastes a lot of Oxy
@SoatMon
@SoatMon Год назад
Possibly you have a pin hole in your diaphragm.
@obfuscated3090
@obfuscated3090 Год назад
An imperfect seat can cause creep. They harden with age and don't always abruptly fail. I'd rebuild the regulator.

@DavidCarney-k5w 4 дня назад
@@treborterb There's a thin poly slip washer stuck to the top of the old diaphragm. Should be peeled off the old one and re-used. I had to reopen mine to do that after I followed this video initially. I think all it does is protect the diaphragm surface from tearing as you tighten down the cap. My new diaphragm still looked fine when I reopened it to install the slip washer.
