I understand your point, but insulting my family was unnecessary. My grandmother is a virtuoso on piano, my father is quite the guitarist, and I'd like to say I'm a decent musician too.
This is what sold me on Victor. As great a bass player as he is he also has a wonderful soul and he express that through his bass and music philosophy.
first and for most, we talk to Victor Wooten alot,,,he's also my son mentor, and have helped my son get the sponsors that he have,DR Strings and Hartkey, ,,,,
Hey Lil Asmar,How are you man?I can you don't remember you and your dad was sitting behind me at the Bar-Kays concert we took a picture together.God Bless you
Asmar is very talented. This is how Victor had started out at a young age. Bass is not an easy instrument. I have just taken it up 8 months ago and I am in my 60s. I have yet to learn that song "Higher Ground". Asmar is truly blessed to have Victor Wooten as his mentor. The sky's the limit Asmar! You've got this!
A memory that will stay with that lucky boy for life. One of the best lessons I ever had with music was when my teacher took away the sheet music I was playing and told me to use my ears not my eyes.
I've been playing and composing for 45 years and I just learned something new. Awesome lesson and Asmar is wonderful (Victor too but that goes without saying)...
@@harryshmuttle2975 right! of course it's difficult- that's what a master level teaching like this from the Master himself is gonna seem like at first. I bet this kid will become an incredibly strong player if he internalized what Vic told him that day and holds on to it
This is some of my favorite footage of Vic. I've seen videos of him playing with all sorts of different people and this just seems like such a profound experience. Victor is a hell of a mentor.
Yes, you are a great bass player, but I have ultimate respect for your teaching methods. You involved him in a way probably no one else had, and being so young, will keep that with him all his life. You "spoke the same language."
Victor too started out very early. His brother Reggie taught him. Victor was 6 when he went up on stage with his brothers when they opened for Curtis Mayfield in his "Super Fly" concert.
Excellent! However, I just don’t understand how someone would dislike this. Likes & dislikes are not as important, neither are haters. Keep learning lil Asmar and keep teaching Victor Wooton. 🎸
Wow! To sit in with Victor Wooten...... amazing! I plan on seeing you tearing and slapping the house down like the icon Victor Wooten. No words to describe how gifted you are. PRODIGY!
I fell right into the pocket with this one. Both Asmar and Victor are PHENOMENAL bassists. And Higher Ground had one of the best opening basslines ever.
I know your comment is a year old, but may i ask which country you live in? I am from Germany and i had mandatory music class every year from year one.
Hi Joelson, Just my perspective that is all. Victor doesn't seem to be going too hard on the young guy either. My teachers have included Richard Davis, John Lockwood, Joe Morris, Cecil Mcbee, John Mcneil and Ran Blake. These teachers have built their lives around playing professionally doing what they love and are interested in helping the next generation of serious and passionate musicians do the same. Usually when teachers recognize that the student is ready to move to the next level musically they will push them a little harder to get them across the finish line so to speak.
Hi Joelson, on what basis are you making the comment that what I am doing is "sports"? Do you know who any of the musicians that I listed are? Do you play music for a living? I guess...here's my "sports" website: robinbetton.com/music/
Training is sports. Practice harder until you win is sports. Letting someone know you understand what they mean even though they are executing it poorly is language.
I Love the love big brother teaching and shaping that young brother mind damn I'm 49 years old I wish my father could have shown me something in life or even spent time with me if I was his age......I'm in awe for this kid the support and love of father Good Family Good Black family
This simple way of thinking from Victor literally brings me to tears. He is just sooooo humanitarian and kind. He built it up by humanising and saying you're already an A+ bass player and then to just think about your brother playing drums - and he coached you through taking your time and not rush it. He used gentle words of encouragement and gave you the space to think and chill and … voila! you found the groove :) You weren't just playing the song - you were thinking about the rhythm and the groove. Fantastic work from Mister Wooten. Asmar … I'll be surprised if you don't think back on that moment as being a game-changer for how you think about playing bass.
IyaEarthseeds I make one mistake and you assume I don’t research? One of my favorite bands of all time is the RHCP’s, so I grew up hearing their version of the song a thousand times so obviously my mind goes there first. You need to chill out a bit
@IyaEarthseeds its not a simple concept to take into practice for a lot of musicians. i am tone blind (similar to tone deaf) for somebody who cant just "play with other people" i am ostracized from jam sessions and group play because i cant "play in key" because i cant hear the different keys. i cant play what they are playing. a jam session defeats the purpose when i need a few tab sheets just too keep track of what notes im allowed to play. also the main lesson was playing to the music that ISNT there, which was the whole point of the lesson. the kid will be able to visualize the music instead of just playing along with his brother. when he is able to visualize his brother plaing drums, he will be able to then visualize what he wants to do, and figure out juicy jams while waiting for the bus. this was about improving is solo play. not incorporating into others. did you watch the video or just try to make a witty comment?
This lil Prince is going to be savage on that bass as he continues to hone his skills and gain teaching from his dad and educators such as this educator. Love it!
no he was jedi mind tricking him so subconciously jaden would be imprinted playing in lil asmars mind as if he was really there playing and he could hear him. victor knew what he was doin hehhe
It was striking to listen the first bass execution and, after Victor spoke, the latter bass execution. Quite a lot of difference. Good advice, this young guy will never forget that lesson.
Saw VW a few years ago at local university music dept. seminar. He did a similar exercise with the school's jazz combo telling them to ignore their own instruments and only listen to the others playing around them. It produced similar results as the video. Amazing.
BassPrayzer Rox you can probably get an idea of it from victor wooten’s graduation speech. They emphasized the same point. Should still be here on youtube.
