How many times have I flipped the table because I was a 1 province minor attacking a 1 province minor to grow a bit and ended up being attacked by great britain and france together, ended up resetting the game.
You didn't mention the biggest issues with politics and diplomacy. The IG system is garbage, with people of entirely different ideologies and views grouped into a few monolithic "classes" that change views to the polar opposite overnight if their leader changes. Diplomatic play system is garbage, you can't even decide to liberate someone else's cores, or promise an ally more than one wargoal, or offer to join a diploplay in exchange for a specific wargoal rather than wait for the AI to offer something and it ends up being war reparations. Paradox made an actually good diplomacy system in EU4 and swore to never do that again.
“…but the game isn’t good. Just give it two years and $300 in DLC” I could deal with this in the past but I’m kind of sick of it. DLC should be the cherry on top of a good game, not the necessary bandages to fix a bad game.

I have been thinking about getting the game for a long while, but I was confused about the state of it since I heard a lot of people trash talking it but others actually complimenting it. Your 8 minutes long video was the best review I saw that really put things into prospective, excellently done!

Something that wasn't mentioned but is arguably even worse is that the MP is litteraly unplayable. You pause for too long? Desync More than 2/3 players? Desync Game speed too high? Desync Trying to load a save? Desync Want to use mods? Desync It's unacceptable that paradox thinks this is an acceptable game to release. Three DLC have already been announced and no work is being done in the MP. What's even worse is that Ck3 MP is arguably pretty stable. So going from this game to VIC3 is honnestly pretty infuriating
One thing I kind of want to happen in vic 3 is that you could like select frontlines and after you do that you can add generals and the enemy nation can also make their own frontlines so just like in a real war one side could be dominating but the other side is losing
@@DaBadMoonIsRisin it works pretty well, and obviously it's another Paradox game, so they can use the system. Why change what works? Vic 3 is the result of changing what works. Also you'd still have the generals/admirals connected to the political system. All that would be different.
@@fyndrkrazet actually does pretty well, it’s just the ai was too stupid to understand it. In multiplayer games pitched, decisive battles are common in the early game but by the late game it really does turn into WW1 trench warfare as the size of the armies expands and technology starts to favor the defender.
I have 800+h and I counldnt agree more with you. This game has so much potential but is so horribly designed. The worst thing is they stick to the horrible design. This is worse to look at than Imperator
the main thing I don't like compare to Vic 2 is the lack of historical event, like when unifying germany or italy you often end up fighting many war against tiny nation that for some reason never back down despite having all odds against them in the diplomatic coup. Also the USA is total mess they never achieve anything and always end up divided in small nation. The border gore is also disgusting but that's not a new thing for paradox. The decisions in the journal are also to generic and dosen't give any deep and different feeling from a nation to a other.
When playing vic 3 i end up going back to previous savea all the time just because you can never know what country might just go against you when trying anything with war. I never do this when playing eu4 and i think it really makes the game a lot lwss fun. Vicy3 has the problem that no matter how good you are, or how much you know. There are always randomness that can destroy the game
It's nice to have randomness in a game as to not make it too easy, but when the randomness is the difference between winnable war to impossible to win, that's when we have a problem.
It was the most relevant footage I had at the time, because I didn't feel like playing the game to find the footage. It has happened to me before, I just didn't have the footage of it when making the video.

The lack of free market from the second game plus playing the game in excell instead of the map doesn't mean a good economy system. This doesn't even look nor play like a good game. I understand what video type you were trying to make but if you want to make ,,a surprise informations" video then you still need basics for it and this game doesn't do anything well.
I disagree, so long as you're talking single player. There is nothing that requires you to be a raging warmonger, you can focus on your own domestic economy + a more reasonable diplomatic & colonial policy, and be just fine. Indeed, if this game has one major flaw it's that once you figure out it's innards, the AI cannot match your performance, and so my task has actually been how raise that performance with mods or file edits.
Worst good game is not an oxymoron, it's a cope for morons. After over half a year I'm just tired of people still trying to defend this game or pretending to like it in its current state. "It's not a game about war" yet blobbing has never been easier in Victoria games, because as you said yourself "Diplomacy is random and infamy doesn't matter". Good luck trying to fight an infamy war in Vic2 unless you start as, France, UK or Germany. I still can't believe that Wiz tricked everyone into thinking that, "Oops, when I took over as a lead designer I told them to scrap all the work they had done before, now we're like a year from the release and we still don't have a war system, better make something up real quick. Oh, you don't like it? It's not a game about war, if you don't like it you're the problem, go play other Paradox games". Watch them completely revamp diplomacy in the next DLC already titled "Sphere of Influence" and then another one where they'll completely remove the current war system and suddenly make "but of course Victoria 3 has always been about war, don't you know one of the most deadly conflicts in human history happened in that period". "Game feels shallow without going full militaristic" wow, what a shocker, it's not like Paradox completely distracted people with utter shit war system from the fact that other game systems are also shallow and unfinished. Global market economy from Vic2? Nah mate, we couldn't be bothered to program that, here is your complex economic game of resources magically appearing out of thin air, arbitrary prices, no supply and demand system. Hey but at least uhhh... provinces produce more than one RGO, and you can build more than 8 arbitrary factories per state, now that's realism right there. I know I come off harsh, and I see that you built your entire channel around Vic3, but this video really comes off like a sunken costs fallacy.
More of a way to get my feelings out about the game without being too negative. It has a lot of good ideas to the game but it's been put together really sloppy. I think a none militaristic grand strategy game could work but if that was the idea they did an awful job at it. (also may be a bit of click bait)
I feel like if I roleplay the game is great.And that is fun for a couple playthrough with breaks in the middle. Roleplay make it fun and it is a bit unfair to dismiss the game as bad because of that, the only pdx game that is an actual challenge is EU4 and where I feel actively enticed to min max is EU4. In all other games I roleplay to have fun. And you know what.... I find it okay. I like Vic3 for what it is. But it can become great with improvement in its mechanic
Im a little late tonthe party but I think this video does a great job summing up a lot of the unfortunate weaknesses. I'm a big Vic2 fan and I wanted to like 3. But for every improvement over Vic2 (and there are some good changes) it seems like they made two things worse.
My question is why couldn't they do this new experimental warfare-less game with a new IP? Why did they have to ruin my favorite series? All they had to do is remaster Victoria II and add more content to it IMO.
They literally sacrificed a cult classic fan favorite game on the altar of trying something different. I don’t know what they expected but if it was anything but the reaction they got then paradox is out of touch.
Completly agree on Victoria 3 military system, i am playing strategy games for around 30 years now this is the most annoying one. Diplomacy is just a dice roll and getting reforms is frustratingly random as well. Watching balancing your economy is pretty relaxing, but goes nowhere as nothing is accomplished aside of another abandoned campaign.
It’s fine that warfare is not the focal point, but as Marco Pierre White once said “Perfection, is a lot of small things done great”. Even though war is not the focal point, it cannot just be an afterthought or done raw or halfbaked. It should still be executed well. There’s no excuse.
That's a fair statement. personally I think they could have gotten away with the poor warfare system if everything else was there to pick up the slack.
Actually, that's how they all kinda start. I mean, EUIV, HOIV, Stellaris, etc. all of them were laughably easy during the early 1.x versions. You can pretty much conquer the world in HOIV by 1938 just by spamming artillery back then. I haven't played this one yet though, but if it's a snorefest like Imperator:Rome...
What I found truly makes this game fun is when you don't play as a major nation, that has pretty much everything set up for them, but a minor nation that has just been released and is a subject to a great nation. For example you start as Spain and then release Puerto Rico and you then have to start the game as a tiny island with the disadvantage that Spain eats up all your convoys and a quarter of your revenue, wood (the fundamental resource) is in massive shortage, as you are part of the spanish market, but with the adantage that you don't have to worry about military affairs as Spain protects you. Having the goal of growing your 480k gdp subject economy into a massive powerhouse is where Viccy 3 really shines despite the lack of flavour. The game mechanics work and the things that have been made abstract and divert from real economics make sense ina game setting. What's boring af is playing as a major nation where your GDP is already huge and there is nothing to really do due to lack of flavour and IMO that's where people go wrong with judging this game. The laws of economics and politics remain the same eveywhere you go in the world as that is due to human emotion and productivity so making every country unique from that system requires a lot of fucking with the base system in terms of journal entries in order to leverage flavour. PS: Imperator Rome kicks ass now. Try it with the Invictus mod.
I will, I'm about to have a lot more free time. Right now I'm struggling to find ways to keep Victoria 3 interesting. People are losing interest in the game, so i may be forced to migrate to another game, but I will still make vic 3 content.
@dallastruxal6775 I watch it while playing so I also like the long form. Those kinds of videos are also how I learn pdx games but idk if I'd take vic3 advice here. Sure it works but it's not optimum
If they implemented same war mechanics as hearts of iron 4 it’s would be much more interesting But what i don’t like about this game is the ressources, trade systems
@@theorange1729 it’s broken, either you have play as country who have most important ressources or you can’t grow your economy Trading is broken. You can’t find a needed resources in trade and importing will make do some sacrifices

Not wanting a super complex war system doesn't justify a broken one. The 800 front line bubbles are awful as well as not being able to set division caps on generals
