I recognize a few of these. The large parlors and dining rooms were in the Congress Hall and Grand Union hotels in Saratoga, NY. At 5:24 the guy sitting at a desk is Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Theodore Roosevelt. The two pics right after Teddy are the library and staircase at Mark Twain's house in Hartford, CT. I think one or two might be in the White House back when it went all Victorian up in there.
Everything was a canvas for art. The walls, ceilings and floors were all decorated with patterns and images. The surfaces of functional objects as well. Nothing was left plain. Nature was a major theme of this art. Wood was rarely painted and large plants helped bring nature into formal spaces. It was truly an age of art appreciation.

Rare to find interior photos ....period. So few exists and even fewer exists with people in the interior rooms. Thank you for showing us a glimpse of what life was like in the Victorian era. 3:56 same mahogany arches in my 1840 Queen Anne....amazing find! 5:13 the man sitting appears to be post mortem .... any thoughts.
Before I die I need to have to impressive candelabras perched on the banisters of a winding huge staircase. First I need a huge staircase. Never going to happen
