The Master Craftsman became the Astronaut, same knife but a round philips on the back? But they kept the name Craftsman but at the same time introducing it with the pliers instead of the fish scaler! I mean come on Victorinox, the fish scaler is much more use daily than the pliers? What's their thinking??? And then the Craftsman became the Astronaut/ shuttle? At least here in Europe! Nice pick up. I've got a Champion in the mail coming. The one I.have has the long nail file on the back side. It has the key ring and the newer Victoria tang stamp on it as well. Square phillips driver and old style metal file. The clip point small blade.was a plus for me as well. I'm assuming it is the "B" version knife?
Yeah sounds like the Champion B. That is how we name them to avoid confusion but back then they just looked at them like different options packages on a truck.
Yeah the 58-61 years are the best in my opinion. Modern scales with the old awl looks great and the exposed rivets, while attractive, are a liability structurally. One little crack in the scale at the rivets, where the most stress is applied, and the blades loosen up.
Hey Pete for as many times I’ve been fishing for over 40 years up at Lake George,NY I have never used the fish hook remover even once,always used needle nose pliers.Nice comparison video.
I think the idea is that if you were stranded alone in wilderness you could prepare fish easier after you craft a weir with only your SAK and your wits. It’s part of the survivalist fantasy that is a cornerstone of marketing in this space. Also I’ve fished all my life and while needle nose pliers are great I rarely need a tool to disgorge a hooked fish. If you need needle nose pliers you probably don’t know what you’re doing. 😉

La hoja pequeña clip point se usó hasta el año 1973 aproximadamente, que justamente es cuando se descatalogan la champion A y B, por eso esa craftsman y trae hoja clip point. La champion A pasa a llamarse Handyman y la champion B craftsman. Un saludo.
