About a month ago I decided to get a small saw / knife blade based tool and wanted to try out some bigger victorinox platforms. Got the Victorinox Forester in black from amazon here (affiliate link ) - amzn.to/3MRRJwF - Prices vary and wait for it to come back down to 40 $. There are other places to check out before you buy from amazon.

Very nice knife, Ireally like the black scales. All it needs is scissors and an inline phillips head and you'd have an outrider.

I love victorinox. I have the one handed trekker. Both versions (serrated and non serrated ) bc I was unsure about the serrated one at first. But after using it, I couldn’t do without it. It’s sharper and more precise than I expected. The look of it, makes people think it’s dull knife. But those serrations , even tho they start at the tip and the blade becomes a straight blade at the end, actually works quite well. Especially for food prep while camping. Even making shavings for wood. That blade made a believer out of me to not judge a book from its cover. I do still like the straight blade (non serrated) mainly for whittling to pass the time. But for my tasks past whittling, the serrated blade surpasses the straight blade in every aspect

serrated is very useful, although more effort to sharpen infield

Same here, I found serrations do just about everything better for most tasks. Easy to sharpen, no special sharpening tools required. Bite into things that plain blades just won’t (especially thorn bushes😅) overall work better and more efficiently. I’m all about full spyderco serrations anymore. I can even slice magazine paper easily by just using a bigger scalloped serration area and zipping it through paper. Win win if you ask me too. Look awesome too if that matters.

I've added an extra long wood saw to my Surge, it's the same length as the whole tool and is gaffa taped to the scale.

i thought about that myself for my surge ! that t shank adapter is z good modular item i think multitools should have.

I have an older Victorinox Trekker, close to 20 yrs old. Only difference is that it's got a curved serrated blade and the main blade locks with a sliding button on scale.

I would like to have found a model like that. Those seem hard to find today I think.

Mine has a tiny bit of play in the blade after it locks. Is that normal or should it be completely motionless?

That's a killer little blade!! I think if it replaced the can opener with a pair of scissors it'd be perfect. Killer vid!!

In the UK, the Victorinox Huntsman is a much better choice for EDC and camping. It has a non-locking, 70mm main blade, sharp saw, eyelet on the awl for sewing, good scissors, as well as other useful tools.

absolutely agree for your situation. in fact i prefer the huntsman. its why i have several in my kit! including huntsman lite as well.

Are locked blades illegal in GB? I own the Huntsman too. Both are very nice. Greetings from Germany!

@@marcdomin6479a non-locking blade, 3 inches (76 mm) or less, should be ok in most places in the UK, with a few exceptions. For example, do not try to bring any bladed item into a law court or school in the UK. Other types of blades, including fixed blades, might be allowed, if there is a good reason to carry the knife. Note that, ultimately, the court decides whether there was "good reason" to carry a knife in the specific circumstances. Examples: a workman carrying tools in a toolbox on his way to or from his workplace would generally be ok. But he must not visit the pub on the way! Someone camping or practising bushcraft, with permission of the landowner, would generally be ok to use a fixed-blade knife and/or axe, etc. Don't expect the average police officer to have detailed knowledge of every aspect of the law. Refer to RU-vid videos by blackbeltbarrister for further information. Viele Grüße aus England!

@@marcdomin6479locked blades aren’t ’technically’ legal for everyday carry in the U.K. but they’re not illegal to carry either. Whether you should or shouldn’t have it on you depends upon whether you have ‘good reason’ for carrying it. For instance; when out hiking I’ll carry a locking blade knife (similar to the one in this video). My reason is simply that I’ll use it on the trail. However, if I was to carry it to the local pub and just walk around the shops with it then I don’t really have a good reason for why I’d have it on me. Hope that helps 👍🏻

If you compare this with the 93 mm you can see the military heritage, blade thickness, saw opening, flathead design are more robust compared with the 91 mm.
