Next in the lineup of rescue knives/tools - I borrowed this from a friend and had to break the news to him that he bought a fake! In the video I mentioned the Kershaw Barrage. I meant the Barricade.

Man people that make counterfeit stuff piss me off. I was at a flea market a few years back and I had gotten some big packs of Pokemon cards and I found out like a couple years later they were fake. I know it's not a knife but my point is that people should stop making fake stuff to make money it's stupid

Another fake spot is there is a liner lock for the large blade screw driver and the liner is stamped PRESS. The main blade is not replaceable , the glass saw blade is. Also on the main blade to the left of the oval thumb hole it is stamped VICTORINOX and below that is in smaller print SWISS MADE.

I'm with you on the Triage-great, great knife. I did the reverse tanto mod Apostle P did for a customer on his channel & I love it even more now.

The genuine rescue tool does not have the hole in the awl, and has Victorinox Swiss Made on the main blade. I did not know that it glowed in the dark until I saw the video. Thanks.

DocP91B - That is a fake based on a 2006 model! All Victorinox multitool knives are very hard to open for raising and lowering tools especially if they are rarely used. I have that exact model (a real one) yes the scales do glow but you have to keep them exposed to ambient light for around 15-30min doesn't have to be direct light either. I had to check mine out because I've always had mine in the red pouch it comes with so it's never exposed to light. Granted this model your holding is based on a 2006 model so they made the thumbhole smaller by 2018 standards (basing this off the making of this video) has been updated since. Also you are opening incorrectly pinch the thumb hole use the body of the knife weight to open should click into place with a flick of your wrist same is done with I believe every Spyderco knife but most people open them like a thumb stud incorrectly. The only replaceable parts are the window saw and the glass breaker. Keep in mind there are in fact two main blade style types YES TWO! (2006) Model - 0.8623.MN Thumbhole serrated (shown in your video) (2006) Model - 0.8623.N Straight Blade (no thumbhole) only a fingernail cut for access. Updated model: (2018+) Model - 0.8623.MWN Thumbhole (NEW) serrated main blade has a more circular hole. NOTE THE FIRST 6 seconds into Victorinox's video the old style thumbhole might need to pause their video to see it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iW1FFbV3a7Q.html Edit: Updated to reflect saying the Victorinox shown in the video is indeed fake! 😁

@@DocP91B I must say after re-watching your video again this is one of the more real fakes based on a 2006 model. The difference that jumped out at me the first time was the tweezers which I forgot to mention it appears your video has 2 toothpicks?? But your tweezers should be on the writing side where it says "Rescue Tool" and colored gray however does not appear to be present. The next big thing that didn't sit right with me is the serration in both knife main blade and seat belt cutter yours are pointed were as they should be visibly more rounded. I will update my previous text to agree with your original assessment. Funny thing is there is another person that has a very obvious fake Rescue Tool on youtube and his does not even have either a toothpick or tweezer holes. And he has a flat main blade with a thumb hole with no serration...Victorinox never made this multitool like that. Thanks for clarifying your differences in the video as well I was curious to see how mine stacked up since I still have the original box and paperwork.

Good eye on spotting the fake, but the rest of the video isn't terribly accurate. Not to he one of "those" guys, but I've been a Rescue Technician/Advanced EMT for 16 years, so I have a little experience with this stuff. You should have watched the official Victorinox video about this knife that you mentioned in your video. Several of the things you mentioned about the knife were inaccurate- like the replaceable knife blade. Also, car windshields aren't tempered glass. They're laminated safety glass. They're designed so they don't shatter. That's why you can cut them with a saw blade. Tempered glass, contrary to what you state in your video, IS designed to shatter into thousands of tiny pieces. You can't saw it.

It's actually the glass saw that is replaceable 😶 not to be that guy but I watched the link you gave us. Makes since being that glass will FIU pretty fast.

DocP91B Your welcome man. This video made me want one for my car bag so I'm getting one. Thanks for this video. I know everyone doesn't have use for things like glass breaker but one night I had never needed one so badly to get a girl from a car wreck. The guy driving was messed up on drugs and they were both bleeding, he was pinned trying to keep her in and I flagged down a younger guy I'd say kid and he had nothing. She was begging for help I had him call 911 and I found a rock to try and break the window at a loss because it didn't help. The driver kept grabbing her and pulling her shirt down and I kept trying to keep him distracted so he would stop. They were young Philippine people weird shit all in the car a huge statue of Mary between the girls legs had broken and cut her bad. Cops finally showed up and not even they could break the glass with their collapsible sticks. We had to wait until the fire department showed up and at that point the male was chanting and told me and two of the cops we had choice and told us live or die so we assumed he would be hostile. I started hitting the windshield shining my surefire fury in his face yelling to distract him while they busted the glass tazed him and got him out on the ground passed out. Two firefighters and I pulled her door open and folded it backwards to get her out. Since that night I will never be without my cellphone, multitool, and a solid flashlight. The fire department thought I was an off duty cop and handed me all her personal stuff and I just told the cops they had to take it. They thanks me helping but when I couldn't get that girl out I felt useless and like I can't let myself live it down because that night I chose to go biking with nothing but a flashlight. It was dumb on my part and all it was, was a bad choice I made to not carry anything.

There should be a *LED light* built into the handle. Take the toothpick out and add some type of sewing needle(s) + thread in there.
@suisseanonyme1033
@suisseanonyme1033 8 месяцев назад
A LED in it? This knive is designed for firefighters (and other first responders, but firstly firefighter and that with a swiss approach of firefighting), the LED wouldn't hold on firefighting conditions.

Great review thank you I've actually seen that knife on AliExpress and was thinking about purchasing it but I figured and $80 knife I don't didn't see how they could sell it for so cheap I'm glad I didn't buy it I won't buy a knife from them just because I'm afraid of the counterfeits and I don't have enough knowledge to know if it's real or fake

Good stuff as usual! I have not seen the video on the Gerber knife yet but definitely going to check it out. I think that I would like it better as well just from the looks of it. (Fellow hypocrite here. haha. ) But it seems like it would be a good knife to put in a car kit or just keep in the glove box.

Maybe this is a case of me not knowing what I am talking about, but I prefer a good multi-tool. Rescue knifes like this definitely are great and useful but as good multi-tool is not only cheaper, but the pliers alone have been so useful in my life personally, but basically carries all the same tools. for example, the SOG Powerplay Multi-tool you received last year in a Battlbox which looks amazing. It is almost half the price of the Victorinox, with multiple bits, a great pairs of pliers, and two blade. I just find that type of item superior to a rescue knife.Again, perhaps I have zero clue what I'm talking about but I don't really see this as apples and oranges, but as a choice of the same genre of tools.Grats on hitting the 15k mark btw, Doc.

+Eric Stephenson I think you make some valid points but on the other hand the rescue knives are very specific to their situations. Most of the guys I know that carry a rescue knife professionally also carry a multitool. It would be a great idea if one of the big companies made a multiple with the same features of the rescue knives and marketed that to the EMS/public safety crowd.

Did you get much use out of the SOG multi-tool? After watching you year in review video, I am considering purchase this product. Would you say it is worth the roughly $50 price tag or would you suggest another brand?
@DocP91B
@DocP91B 7 лет назад
+Eric Stephenson I'm planning a big multitool roundup video soon. But I really haven't uaed that one more than any other. That's not because it's not good. It's actually quite light compared to the others. I'm just used to carrying my Leatherman Mutt. Honestly I can't give you real good opinion and I don't want to influence you spending that kind of money without having good knowledge. But again, it's light, has a decent blade, and a unique way of holding the bits. Take that for what its worth and I'm sorry I can't give you more!

I appreciate you honesty here. Show integrity, something the world greatly lacks right now. I'll look up some reviews before buying anything. I prefer to make well informed purchases. I do look forward to you multitool video. I find them a truly undervalued item that everyone should carry. Much like my knife. I am asked at work all the time why I carry a knife. "Think you're cool for carrying a knife"(yes, I've been asked this as I'm sure many have). 1. It is on my belt under my shirt so not exactly displaying it for the world. 2. It has been very function in my work environment. Having a knife and good multitool at all time can get you out of almost all situations.

another way to spot a fake is where it's made. it should be stamped on the main blade Swiss made and the Victorinox spring has a certain sound it makes when you open and close the knife

Not sure what to think of this tool. I wouldn't carry it. I'm more likely to have my Triage combined with the Leatherman Raptor that are in my EDC bag. If I need screwdrivers I always have a Leatherman on my belt. I hope your buddy burns the fake tool and gets a real one

4 years late to the party. I work i. Sea SAR in My countery, and I Use this knife and a Benchmade Triage. The Triage is good for general knife Use, But when rope needs to be cut fast, or to get People out of flotation gear, or entery into cabins in boats this tool is better than the benchmade. Got it as a gift from My father when I finished Rescue swimmer school.
