The ubiquitous aircraft carriers of the U.S. Navy attack in the Central Pacific Ocean at the Gilbert and Marshall islands, destroying Japanese installations. But for all of these, there is a price to pay for victory.
At time 22:50 you see a hero. The aircraft has just crash landed, erupts in flames and the Sailor runs around the flames to help the aircrew. Unselfish devotion to duty right there. Most civilians run away from danger. A warrior runs to it.
I'm really curious about that cat. Certainly there has to be documentation about the honors he received for that act of valor. Alas, I couldn't find anything in 5 minutes of searching.
@@andrewwirth3228 10 seconds to type the words in .... "us navy man climbs onto burning plane".... see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Burning_Grumman_F6F-3_Hellcat_of_VF-2_aboard_USS_Enterprise_(CV-6)_on_10_November_1943_(80-G-205473).jpg
The line up of 20mm oerlekin autocannon on the gunwhale... At Guadacanal they learnt to put an oerelkin anywhere one would fit, and they wanted to start making room !!
some of the greatest MEN OF WWII GOD BLESS THEM ALL! REMEMBER THOSE WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE AND HAVE REPORTED TO THE FINAL ROLL CALL ABOVE AMEN AND GOD BLESS THEM ALL.
"O, God, We pray thee, that the memory of our comrades, fallen in battle, be ever sacred in our hearts And that the sacrifice, which they have offered for our country’s cause, may be acceptable in thy sight. And my this Sailor, find repose, with the plane in which he gave his life, that we might live. Into thy hands, O lord, we commend the soul of thy servant departed, now called unto eternal rest And we commit his body, to the deep. "
I grew up watching these. Every one of the guys in these were & still are my boyhood heros. Now I'm in my 60's & it saddens me to know even the ones who survived this are gone now. Maybe it brings my own mortality more into focus. I hope I get to meet these guys in Heaven. God bless each & every one of them. 🫡 🇺🇸
Yep Winston Churchill said it best what kind of people do they think we are we would teach them a lesson that they are the world will never forget and he was correct in that statement

An absolutely wonderful blend of orchestration and film at the 10:00 mark. Must be why this series had such an impact on TV audiences of that time. It still amazes me today.
"UNREP" - UNderway REPlenishment ... Adm Nimitz had a hand in its concept and design in the 1920's. And, oh, he was also a submariner during WW1 ... not bad for a kid from Texas.
I get such a kick when they refer to a carrier as a floating city. Even when I served 40 years ago life aboard ship was basically hard labor 12 hours a day 7 days a week for as many as 9 months at a time and the entire crew were men. At times there was not a woman within a thousand miles. Some city.
Amazing photography by Navy cameramen. One had to have nerves of steel on that carrier targeted by one of those enemy dive bombers 19:17 Plane breaks up; catches fire and hits the water next to the carrier.
That Japanese plane could actually have been a kamikaze. I think the footage might be from a later Victory at Sea that was primarily about massive kamikaze attacks.
WHAT A GREAT COLLECTION OF WWII FILMS EVER FILMED. IM PROUD TO HAVE SERVED THE US NAVY ,I WISH I COULD DO IT AGAIN AND I M SURE MANY NAVY VETS FEEL THAT WAY TOO!!! NOW AT 65 I HAVE GOOD MEMORIES OF MY SERVICE. GOD BLESS ALL ARMED FORCES OF THE USA!!!!
19:41 Oi !! I'm hit, I'm on fire!, I'm going down!, I'm going to crash!! ......Would you knock it off already with them negative waves? Why can't you just dig how beautiful it is out here!!?? Why don't you say something hopefull and Righteous for a change??!! ......ok BANZAI!!!
My Father served on Guadalcanal ; he contracted dengue fever, & combat fatigue, spent 20 months in New Zealand recovering. He was awarded The Navy Cross & a Purple Heart. -------The Greatest Generation.
How dare can someone put a commercial at the last 3 minutes of such a moving doc. It is an absolute insult to the men who gave there lives for this country and to the viewers. I am outraged!!!!!
