Engine looks spectacular in the chassis Graham, can't wait to see the body. This is turning out be your masterpiece. Your tenacity and motivation once you get going on a project is phenomenal - unlike the rest of us slackers {:-)) Thank for the videos. I know its not easy to worry about the filming when you are so busy on a schedule . The lapel mike works very well. Cheers Paul
Thank you so much for that very kind comment Paul, I’m obviously very pleased with not just the way the engine looks but the whole of the chassis too. I said at the beginning of this venture that this will be my last testimate to car building and so I’m doing this to the best of my ability, it’s not perfect by any means but I’m happy with it so that’s all what matters. I hope that I can do the body to the same standard, I have various period pies which will enhance the look from the standard kit. I’m only videoing what I think folk would be interested in and once the camera, mics etc are set up then it’s no big deal,to video, it’s the editing which takes the time! Glad the mic is working ok for you too. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………. Graham
Mike is much better and plenty of room for the headers. You are clearly chuffed with what you have achieved and rightly so. I'm really enjoying your build, its looking great!
Hi Andy and thank you for the comment. Yes the mic worked ok and much better clarity now so I shall use this from now on. I worked on it yesterday and got the clutch, gearbox and prop shaft in so that now gives me the full drivetrain from front to rear. Off to see the kit today so hopefully another video later on. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
Echo Norman, Billabong and others comments and just add I'm amazed at how much you accomplished in an afternoon, especially as hot as it was. Anyone who has lived in high hummidity places (like England and where I once lived, Eureka, CA) knows that high 80s Farenheit (31 Celsius) feels hotter than mid 90s dry heat. The humidiy just cooks you. Engine looks as awesome as the assembly. Love to see a great looking motor in a car. Looking forward to more.
Hi Robert and thank you for the comment and yes, I couldn’t agree more with you as regards the humidity, the humidity here was very high which as you know is the thing that saps the energy from you when trying to work. I have been to places when it was 40 degrees + but it didn’t feel like that because it was a dry heat, 4K degrees here in the U.K. would be unbearable. Today is a completely different day, 20 degrees and rain - typical English weather but far more bearable. Yes, the engine looks sweet sitting in in the chassis and I’m hoping to connect the drivetrain up today if I can so from front to back will be connected. Great stuff! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………Graham
Hi Graham. That is soooo clean you'll be terrified taking it out when its all done in case you get it dirty!! It looks magnificent. The arrival of the kit next week will be a milestone and something to look forward to. Don't overdo it in this heat...I got the model railway shed to 142f yesterday. Needless to say I was indoors keeping away from it all. Cheers, Bob
Hi Bob and thanks for the comment, it will get a bit grimey with use but I hope to keep on top of it, like all cars it will never look like new after use but I guess that will be called ‘patina’ ! 😂😂. It’s a lot cooler today so I can work in that - onwards and upwards! Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
Many thanks for the comment David, I’m will be going out there within the hour to carry on and fit the flywheel, clutch and gearbox so maybe another video later on showing the completed installation - if not then Monday. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Well done on getting the engine in especially in the heat plus by yourself, going to see the body will help you with the final push to finish the remaining work.
Many thanks Paul for the comment, it was a slog in that heat but I got it in the end. You’re right, seeing the body tomorrow will help me a lot, putting the body on the chassis will then bring a whole lot of work but different work from what I have been doing so far, at least it shouldn’t be so greasy and messy! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Many thanks once again Onno and I’m now nearing the completion of the rolling chassis which is a great step forward - onwards and upwards. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham
Hi Eric and thanks for the comment mate, yes it is exciting and I went and saw the almost finished kit today for me to build up when it’s delivered next weekend - really excited now and I’m pleased that I’ve managed to get 99% of the drivetrain and chassis complete . Cheers for now mate. ……….Graham
Fantastic Wally, so glad that you could hear everything I was saying this time, I will use it all the time now when I make videos. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Many thanks for the comment Anthony although I really can’t see me being a surgeon - you need brains for that! 😂😂. The lapel mic was a great success and will be using it from now on, just a shame I didn’t use that before but at least I know it works and is a great improvement on the sound quality which can only be a good thing for those folk watching. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….Graham
Graham, audio was 100% better then the last video, thanks for listening to your subscribers comments ;-) You did well to be working on the car in todays heat.... I felt hot and bothered watching you ! - Well done, and you should be chuffed with all your work and progress you've made. Like I've said before I'm not in to car restoration or build projects such as this, but I do find this series interesting and appreciate you taking us along with you and the time you spend making the content for us to enjoy.
Hi Malcolm and thanks for the comment and thank you too for getting me off my butt and sorting the sound out - the sound was much better using my lapel mic, I should have got them out earlier! 👍🏻. I appreciate you following me even though you have no particular interest into car restoration or projects such as this, it’s greatly appreciated sir. It was hot today, very hot, we did have a gentle breeze which helped, I don’t think I could have worked for so long if that breeze hadn’t been there but I got there in the end which was my main goal for the day. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
Hi mate and thank you for the comment and yes, I know, I couldn’t stop grinning once that engine was in, I felt so happy that I had at long last got to that stage and as you say, a great milestone. Today should be the turn of the gearbox and clutch which will then give me a complete drivetrain! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………. Graham
Hi ya Graham. It’s amazing what one man can do with the right tools. Although two men would have been ideal, with the hoist and lift all fell into place, gently. Nicely done. You being so excited and happy is very infectious. Have fun driving up to check on the kit. I hope all is well, so it can be delivered next weekend. Take care. I look forward to your next update. See ya. 🦆
Hi Norman and thanks for the comment, yes having the right tools does help me a lot - and my back too! But it all went ok in the end even though I was prepared for a bit of pushing and shoving but it went in ok in the end. You have to have a good humour to do this kind of job otherwise you will drive yourself insane and apart from that, it’s a hobby and you have to enjoy your hobbies. I’m looking forward to the drive to see the kit, I shall be taking a few bits with me for a trial fit! Cheers for now my friend and speak again soon. …………Graham
It is 33 right now here. Going up to 34 later. I don’t work in the heat. In the morning cool, yes. Drink plenty of water. Nothing is better than H2O except some type of electrolyte fluid. The project rocks mate. It is going to be so awesome. Rob
Hi Rob and thank you for the comment. It was really hot today and like you, I drink a lot of water during the day so as not to dehydrate. I’m really pleased with the project so far and has worked out pretty much how I had planned, looking forward to seeing the kit on Sunday before delivery the following weekend - exciting times! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Hi Bob and thanks for the comment mate, to be honest, I had no choice but to do it by myself - it was either that or it wouldn’t have got done but actually it gave me a lot of satisfaction seeing that go in eventually - hence the big smile at the end! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham
Many thanks for the comment Paul and so pleased that you are enjoying the videos. You’re absolutely right, it is a true labour of love and a project I’m really enjoying doing, it’s creative in so many ways and is a perfect hobby for me. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Sound is a lot better, Graham. I had a garage business from the '60s to the '90s and worked on loads of Triumphs. You are making a splendid job of the Gentry, always double check as you did with the big ends and mains, it always pays to be absolutely sure everything is correct. I look forward to more videos as you progress. All the best, Brian.
Many thanks for the comment Brian and thank you so much for the compliment. The trouble with working on your own is that you are never 100% sure if you are doing it correctly, plus these days there are so many differing opinions about the same subject you never know which one to choose as being correct! 😂. Oh well, never mind, no doubt I shall find out when I start it up for the first time! 😂😂😂. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Hi Tom and thanks for the comment, just my luck it had to be the hottest day of the year doing this job but seeing the engine sitting in the chassis at the end was a great feeling and worth it and yes, I really enjoyed my lemonade after that - it went down a treat! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Many thanks for the comment Ken and yes, that’s a really big step forward for the project (and me) so hopefully today I will be able to complete the drivetrain with the clutch, gearbox and propshaft installation - wish me luck! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
The lapel mike is working fine, Graham. 👍 You did right, Graham to check the torque of the mains and big ends bolts. They are not the bolts that you want to come loose as that would be catastrophic! Pleased that you have the engine in place. I take it that the exhaust header has adequate clearance now. Pleased for you, mate. Best, Jason
Many thanks for the comment Jason, I could not leave those bolts unchecked, they were playing on my mind and for the sake of a little more time and a gasket then it was worth it in my opinion. I have a small amount of clearance but I will work on that to see if I ca squeeze a little more, these aftermarket exhausts are notorious for bad fitment but it doesn’t help with me moving the engine back 3 1/2” but I will sort it somehow - that’s the fun of building a kit car! 👍🏻😉. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Great job. Yes 2 people does make it easier. Many of us here would have loved to help you!!!! Mike is working great, blocking out the background noise. Will you be recording your inspection on Sunday for us to enjoy as well?
Hi mate and thanks for the comment, they are really appreciated. Yes the mic worked really well I thought, I should have used it before, it was just sitting in a drawer all this time so I will use this all the time now on the videos. If I’m allowed to video at the inspection (I don’t see why not) then I will and pop it up - really looking forward to that! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham
Hi Mark and many thanks for the comment - yes I remember that word, spiffing, quite a good word actually! 👍🏻. If I’m allowed to video the kit then I will, if not then I will try and get a few sneaky photos instead. Really looking forward to this though, quite exciting. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
Hi David and thanks for the comment and yes, it appears that I have covered quite a bit this week and I’m pleased with the end result. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
Hi Graham, thanks for sharing the update I really know what you felt like when you had to re check the bottom end torques wish I had a pound for every time I’ve gone back and redone something lol. Can’t wait for the body kit to arrive.
Hi mate and thanks for the comment. It was playing on my mind last night so the first thing I did was to whip that sump off and just gave everything a final check - for the sake of an hour and a new gasket it was worth it. Can’t believe I’ve only got a week left before the kit arrives, it seems like it’s taken an age but it’s a good thing because it meant that I could spend more time in getting the chassis, suspension, engine and gearbox up to the standard I want it to be. As you know, I’m no mechanic so I’m not as good as a professional but I’m giving it my best shot. Cheers for now mate. ………. Graham
The lapel mike has cut out the passing traffic noise greatly. Well done on getting the engine in single handed - I assume the sped up parts were a device to avoid bleeping yourself!!! ;-) If the headers are a bit tight you might be able to "massage" them with a Land Rover No. 1 tool? Cheers
Hi Davie and thanks for the comment. Yes, that mic worked really well so I shall carry on using that. The sped up parts were just there to stop folk getting bored out of their mind watching me flaff around trying to get that engine to fit! 😂. Ok, so now I’m going to have to ask you what a Land Rover No. 1 tool is - I think I can guess though! 😉. Cheers for now mate. …………. Graham
Hi Mike, I’m sure it is hot for you, it’s not often we get to those temperatures, it just saps all the strength from you, much cooler today, 20 degrees and rain! Typical English weather! 😂😂. Cheers for now mate. ………….. Graham
ya I lived there for a time in Hungerford and all I had was a motorcycle so ya I got wet. My wife worked in Swindon. I would love to bring my 1955 TR3 Iam restoring back home to Coventry but dont think I could ever afford to do that.
@@mikestrang6229 Well I don’t believe it, I saw your video on the MG TD a few months ago when I was researching videos all MG TD/TF related as this car is a close replica of the MG TF, not an exact replica by any means but a good looky likey! Glad you got that old girl running and after all that time it sounded sweet as a nut! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@mygentrybuild1974 ya the TD had sat a VERY long time it was a vet bring back its right hand drive has a badge on it from Paris and it lived in Fairbanks Alaska where it drove year a round with on heater!!!!! not that the heater would make it better. if you didn't see it heres the vid where I talk about me and the car. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UVSuSL0kHMk.html
@@mikestrang6229 Hi Mike and yes I have seen the vid and have also subscribed to you channel too. I can’t imagine what it would have like to have driven that car around in Alaska with no heater! 😳. I shall follow your TR3 restoration with great interest. 👍🏻
Hi Graham, You are certainly putting in the hours, but have a lot to show for it. Engine and chassis look really good. Is your new camshaft standard or has it been worked on? Cheers, Ed
Hi Eddie and thank you for the comment, yes there has been quite a few hours put into this project but I think it’s been worth it when I look at it now, this afternoon I fitted the flywheel, clutch and gearbox so I now have a proper rolling chassis. I have left everything standard including the cam, I just wanted to keep it simple and this car was not ever meant for out and out speed but it should be plenty fast enough for my needs and the style of the car. It should do over 100mph but I very much doubt if I will do that in this car! 😂. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
