Hi Graham, Enjoying watching the build, everything looking great so far. The body kit too looking very impressive, a heck of lot still to do but we all know you'll finish the build and unlike a certain Mr. Potts you'll be wheeling out an absolute classic, ". . . Near far, in your motorcar, what a happy time you'll spend,"
@mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Hi James and thanks for the comment, I still obviously have a few more jobs left to do on the engine and chassis but they are just small things in comparison to what I have been doing, so with only two days to go before the body arrives then I would like to try and get those done as it’s a lot easier without the body being there. I will try and get a video up after the body arrives so either Sunday evening or Monday. Mr Potts? Who’s he? 😂😂😂. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

I was interested to hear that the bodywork is made of a steel frame, plywood and a an aluminium shell Graham. I thought is would have a Fibreglass shell but Aluminium is so much better. Very exciting, I can't wait to see your approach to the next stage. That Grill Cowl looks superb and agree it is so much better to have the T F type design. Cheers Paul
@mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Thanks for the kind comment Paul, I really appreciate that. The body is a good mixture of materials giving it some good rigidity all in the right places which is pretty much the same as the original MG TF was built. The grill is in superb condition with no splits or repairs in the brass but it will need rechroming which I had allowed for anyway - along with some other period pieces I have for it. So in about a years time it should be taking real shape and starting to look the part. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ………Graham

Hi Paul and thank you for the comment. Yes it does seem to have accelerated quickly over the last couple of months but only just in time for the body to arrive next weekend so I just made it ! I’m not sure when it will be complete for the first drive, I would like to think sometime next year but not sure on that at the moment, it’s a bit early to tell, I don’t know how long it will take me to prepare it before I am at the stage of having it painted plus of course the finance to be able to get it to that stage too but next year is the plan I have at the moment. Looking really great, Graham! A huge leap forward with the whole drive train in place and looking good enough to eat off!!! That grill is a real find, I used a ZA / ZB on mine (back in the 80’s) but they must be pretty rare nowadays too, as you say. The body is looking great too, and will be a fabulous start to the next chapter... lots to do but all part of the fun 😊. By the way, I think a red alternator pulley would look good too (not that is in anyway shabby now!).
@mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Hi Peter and thanks for the comment. Yes, the ZA/ZB grill is the standard style of grill used if you didn’t opt for the Gentry version of the TF replica, they are both getting very hard to find these days though! The body is looking great even at this early stage, there will be a huge amount of work involved in the fitting and preparation of it before I even think about getting it sprayed so you are going to have to be patient with me on that one, I will be eager to get to that stage but not before I’m happy with it and that everything fits. I hope to get that pulley sprayed red today if I can before the final tidy up of the garage. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. …………Graham

Hi Graham, looking splendid, my friend. You must be well chuffed seeing the engine and gearbox mounted in the chassis. I also noticed that the rear is sitting up much better camber wise. @mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Hi Jason and thanks for the comment, I’ve had the windscreen and many other genuine MG TD/TF bits and pieces for some time now, buying them up when they appear as they are like rocking horse teeth - the grill especially and Jon was very kind to donate that to me FOC which is an amazing result. 👍🏻. I hope that once the body is on plus everything else then the suspension will sit just right. Cheers for now mate. ……….. Graham

Graham.......Looking good. I have watched all 5 episodes of your engine build and was quite entertained the way you explained it. Anyone watching, with a bit of skill and your explanation of how to do it, could probably assemble an engine and get it to run. Now retired, I have been in the body repair business for years and look forward to the next stage in this build. Many kits, on this side of the pond, come ready to drop on and drive away on the finished chassis. I was amazed by the amount of work that you will have to do once the body is delivered, and you are a one man show. The color combination on the chassis is perfect. Will the body and interior be red and black as well or will it be finished the way the photo on the thumbnail is? I imagine that the progress on Lakeside will slow a little given all the work that you have ahead of you, and once done those sunny days will be spent on the road. We got the best of both worlds with our cars in the summer and trains in the winter. By the way, may I suggest that you get an electric fan for your garage to help with the remaining hot days that are coming the rest of the summer. Keep up the good work, I enjoy both channels. Love to send you photos of my stuff. Cheers, Jack Thomas
@mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Hi Jack and many thanks for the comment. Yes there will be a lot of work for me to do once the kit is delivered but that the way I wanted it. There are many kits available over here which are pretty much a turn key kit but that not for me. I will get the bodywork to how I want it and then I will send it out to a professional outfit to finish it of and paint it, I will then get it back and then start finishing the trim off myself. I can spray but my garage is not suitable for spraying and I’m no expert and as I want a good job then that is the only way I will consider. I do have a colour in mind for the exterior and interior but I won’t say anything on that yet as I may still change my mind. I intend to do the Gentry in the warmer months and the railway in the winter months - it’s too cold in the garage during the winter but I have air con up in the railway room - maybe I should get it put in the garage too! Cheers for now buddy and keep watching but when I get to the bodywork then be gentle with me! 😂😂😂. …………Graham

@@mygentrybuild1974 Graham, Years ago, when the kids went on their own and it was just the wife and I , I started looking for a little convertable for the two of us for weekend trips. I was looking for an MG or a Triumph, as they were affordable and easy to work on and no room for the kids. However, all I found were rust buckets, because in my part of the world, due to the salt that is used on the roads in the winter....rockers, floors and fenders (wings) are most always rotted. The wife didn't want me spending all my time rebuilding something as I did that all day long. It is a long story but in my search for that elusive British ride, I found my first Corvette (1979). It was at a yard sale (a boot sale at someones place of residence here in the US) It is not what I was looking for, was more than I wanted to spend and purchased in another state, (county for you guys) but it was, for my generation always a boyhood dream. I still have it, and two others have joined the stable since that day in 1997. We now have mine, hers and ours. The last one finally being a convertable. None of them were new but gently used. Hers is now a 100 point concours show car that is 27 years old ,33k miles, and all original. The most fuel efficent one is the '01 ragtop that can squeeze 30mpg at 70 mph, with 350hp. We have a saying here ( and maybe in the UK too) that the boy with the most toys in the end wins. Tools, toys and trains, I am doing the best I can to live up to that saying. Take care, watch the heat and I will look forward to the next episode. You may show this old body guy a thing or two. All the best, Jack

@@johnthomas4210 Hi Jack and loved the story of you ‘Vettes, how lucky you are to have those kind of cars available to you over there, I have always been an American Car nut and I have a list of many that I would have loved to own with my favourite being a ‘57 Belair convertible in red and white - my dream car! Others include a 31 Model A or a 32 Model B - either 3 or 5 window coupe or convertible - doesn’t matter , the list goes on. Unfortunately at my age then it’s probably too late for me now to realise that dream but you should always have dreams shouldn’t you? Hi Roy and thanks for the comment, I originally moved it back with new engine mounts for the fitment of the six cylinder engine, but now that I’m putting the four cylinder engine in it for a while then it can be mounted in the original position, the engine mounts are still there for when the 6 pot goes in - hope that makes sense. @mygentrybuild1974
@mygentrybuild1974 2 года назад
Hi John, the Spitfire 1500 engine was designed to run on 20W50 oil which is what I will be using and most probably Millers if I can get it, anything less will lower the oil pressure which I really don’t want. There are a few different makes around as you know but Millers seem a good recommend oil for the Spit. Cheers for now mate. ………. Graham
