Another great video Nev. The museum is going from strength to strength on so many levels and to think Fred who all those years ago had a nucleolus of an idea for a museum in memory of his brother and now his grandchildren taxi the Lancaster.
I was talking to the guys at Woodford many years ago when they'd just finished working on the BBMF Lanc. They found the inner surfaces of the wing skins had never been painted because the average operational life of a Lancaster was around 3 months and corrosion was not considered an issue.
Hey Nev, maybe getting ahead a bit, but are they going to fit Jane with dual controls similar to Thumper and Vera? Also, have they identified who might be pilot flying for the first flights?
NO NO NO the whole country holiday...my father did not celebrate many things, but as a WWII vet, who put on the uniform, i think he would have loved to see this bird fly, how I got to be a aviator, his stories of watching the planes above, or being strafed by them.
Neville !!! great commentary, at the rate you are going there will soon be 9K viewers that can take over a ground crew position (just in case someone forgets to come to work, wink wink). It might be a treat to show the before start checklist that the crew is using. You are doing GREAT work Neville!!

Neville, considering the mission marks painted below the cockpit, can you tell me why some bombs are painted in red? And what the hell those ice cream cones represent? 🙈. Thank you, congrats to the whole team for the fantastic job done so far.
The Ice cream cones signified ops over Italy. Not sure about the red bomb symbols... Hey, the history continues to inspire and intrigue us with these little human embellishments, painted on with pride, by ground crew. Pride, and some relief from the Lanc's safe return to their care. Many never returned. I think of those ground crew guys, and the WAAFs, waiting at crack of dawn for that first distant beat of engines. It puts shivers up my spine.
Have the engine-driven generators now been fitted and wired? I thought that freshly-charged batteries were still fitted prior to engine runs and taxiing?
Hi Andy, yes the generator on no3 engine has been fitted, but not working. It was to be up and running for this season thing did not go according to plan- so back to the batteries.
The flight engineer had a small folding seat, but it was rarely used as the fuel cocks, fuel pressure instruments and transfer pumps etc were on the starboard fuselage behind him. So the engineer mostly flew standing beside the pilot.
