Exactly, in SHUT DOWN in each scene they refer to this and many iconic music videos of the group, it must be clarified that DDU DU DDU DU is the music video of a kpop group with the most views in history, that is, it is a legendary song in kpop

"How you like that" and "Kill this love" are one of their most iconic music videos. Shut down does have a lot of references to this video, but also to "boombayah", "Playing with fire", "whistle" and "kill this love".

Every set piece and major prop in SHUT DOWN is a callback to an earlier BLACKPINK music video (The tank, pier, katana, bathtub, umbrella, globe and the set with Jisoo singing in front of a picture of herself). As you watch their other music videos you'll see the items that were "repurposed" in that video. SHUT DOWN's meaning is two fold. They're "shutting down" their haters (K-Pop is highly competitive and fandoms of other artists always have some toxic fans leaving hate comments) but they're also "closing the doors" on their older music and "leveling up" to the newest version of BLACKPINK. At the end of the video they take the elevator UP and exit onto a hallway filled with doors, which represents their next songs.

Good catch, the set for the final dance break at the end is modeled after a traditional Korean temple design. Here's something that everyone misses, though, that shows you the ridiculous level of production: Go to 13:43 in your reaction. The girls are singing while they're walking down a triangular shaped hallway, which is supposed to be "inside" the Korean temple.. Behind them the wall is sliding forward as they walk, keeping pace with them. At 13:49 they emerge from the temple while the wall continues to slide forward. Keep watching, it continues to slide forward until we can see that it has sealed the temple closed at 13:58 !

He is Korean-American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Park moved to the United States with his family as a young child. When he was 17 years old, Park and his friend Danny flew to South Korea during summer vacation to audition for YG Entertainment and debuted with the group 1TYM. the bedazzled tank lives rent free in my head. jennie's verse is the reason this is my fav song of theirs.

As a video editor, I'd STRONGLY recommend you watch each of their M/Vs secveral times, because I guarantee you're going to miss a LOT of the details. The set designs use internal jokes and references to the girls, the group, and some of their other songs, with lots of insidental details to give added flavouring. For example, the opening set on the square platform has water running down the walls; Jennie's Queen chess-piece throne has a black base and a pink top - they play with the "black" and "pink" symbolism a lot in the M/Vs - and so does the chess piece she's holding; when she was on the throne, she was holding the fennic fox as a reference to Blofeld and his cat (classic James Bond arch-villain) as her character was an arch-villain plotting, as represented by her being a player manipulating pawns; there was also a post -edit eye colour change when she says "savage - all that in her first couple of scenes. I MISSED the matching chess-pices 😲😞 You caught that Lisa's opening set has pink money; the katana with BLACKPINK on it suggesting they'll cut down opponents - but here the hilt is black, in Shutdown it is pink; the blackboard is covered with BLACKPINK related facts; when she says she's "foxy" (it meand hot, sexy), she has a pink tail... Other stuff... Ah, you were admiring the end set triangular shape - if you go back and re-watch it again, you'll realise it was actually hollowed out into a corridore, with the girls walking through it, and the 'door' following. It's even more elaborate than you might have thought!

BlackPink is pop, sure. But they have some more depth too than many non blinks think :) Like, lovesick girls, its very upbeat pop but with a dark tragic hidden in it. But your next video should be "Kill this love" IMO. there are many small stories there build around an overarching theme. Great song and great video :) They have many great songs without videos too but since you are a video editor i guess it won't be of interest to your channels concept :) I still say give "love to hate me" a listen as well as "crazy over you" and "The Happiest Girl" to name a few

shut down and d4 is actually really similar as shown in d4 lisa has the sword and shut down has it as well, jennie was sitting on the tank during her rap in d4 but in shutdown she was sitting on the tank at her very first verse in the music video, the part where jisoo fell in d4 was also shown in the screen shown behind her in shutdown, and rosé was also swinging on a chandelier in both d4 and shut down

YG Entertainment spends millions on each of their music videos. Whoever the director is has everything planned out in his mind ahead of time. It must take hours to edit the videos to meet the criteria of what the director had in mind. Plus, it can take two or three days to shoot one video. Their sets are all hand made, and green screen use might be, maybe, 1%. Through many of their videos they bring back different things from older videos. The building they use is enormous, and they save everything. Oh... and, it's a Katana, not a sword. : ^)

Great reaction video. Just FYI, this is all one big FU to their haters and they have a huge amount of haters. Since debut each of the members has been targeted individually by a hate group. Most notably Lisa, who was the target of rascist threats of physical violence, so much so that the Thai Embassy in Seoul felt compelled to get involved. Jennie was targeted by a very hostile and vocal subset of the fanbase demanding that she be dropped from the group for being lazy and unprofessional. Jisoo was being targeted as the Blackhole of Blackpink, alleging she had no talents and was only there for her pretty face and she should be replaced. This music video was Blackpink's response for being the target of hate in the years prior to this song: "Don't care what people think" "Whatever you say doesn't faze me" etc. In the chorus they are literally gunning down their haters. They are bringing out swords, finger guns and actual tanks and telling their haters they are going to war with them and they are not about turning the other cheek or hiding under their bed covers. As you may be aware numerous Kpop idols and actors have been driven to suicide by social media and netizen attacks. So, those phone camera pistols pointed at Jisoo by masked men are symbolic of the anonymous netizens creating social media attacks when an Idol trips up and makes some mistake, the internet trolls circle around that idol to finish him/her off career-wise and life-wise. So, when you said "they are having fun and then something bad happens", no, they were being constantly attacked and they responded with this music video. Probably their most popular live performance, that you should react to, is their Tokyo Dome Remix Encore version of this song. Totally different version, and some even prefer it to the music video, but carries the same FU message to their haters.
