Video Editor Reacts to Lady Gaga - 911

as she puts a doll in the box, she's referencing to the lyrics "Keep my dolls inside diamond boxes"

One interesting new thing I noticed that I haven't heard a lot of people mention is: When she's dressed in yellow and the man puts his hand on her chest representing CPR, he also has an "XXX" ring. XXX in Roman numerals is 30, which is also the exact number of chest compressions you are supposed to give in CPR. (30 compressions + 2 rescue breaths, then repeat the cycle). Speaking of Roman numerals, the men in orange have "911" in roman numerals on their helmet.

Just to clear this, because it makes all the difference: this is not representative of her mind during a traumatic state ON medication. It's her state WITHOUT it. She's been saying on recent interviews how important her antipsychotic and brain medication have been to her, since it helps her get out of psychotic breaks a lot faster and keeps her grounded in reality. That's why the antipsychotic medication is referred to as 911: just like the paramedics, it brings her back to life and reality.

LG is definitely a product placement but if you really dig deeper into that, LG Life’s Good = Lady Gaga Life’s Good, which is a self-parody where she’s referencing people who think her life is good just because she is Lady Gaga.

The paramedics came by helicopter. The umbrella spinning representing helicopter. That's answered why they were on top and go down tothe scene. You can also see helicopter at last shot behind.

the man smashing his head onto the red pillow in the beginning is the guy who had his head against the steering wheel in the end of the video!!!!

Chromatica scars are referencing another song from Chromatica "Replay", "The scars on my mind are on replay, r-replay" thats why they are repeated, those hard moments are playing again and again, permanent scars in her mind.

The flower she holds when she’s floating up dies when the guy starts to pull her down

The red outfit after she gets brought back by the paramedics is supposed to represent the respiratory system as she is getting CPR.

Me after watching 911: wait. what just- My brain: Sshhhh. Just wait for Jordan. He'll explain.

*I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE LIFE'S GOOD PRODUCT PLACEMENT IS IRONICALLY APPROPRIATE TO LIFE AND DEATH IN THIS VIDEO*

The movie "The Color of Pomegranates" is the influence for this, they show it in the ending. If sitting through a whole movie like this seems like too much work, go google the trailer & see that so much of the imagery in this video comes from that. In the video it's about drugs, in the movie it' about trying to translate life experiences of a monk & delves into faith, life & death & is an attempt at poetry using only images. It's a wonderful amalgamation of the two ideas. They even reference that in the opening shot, when you were talking about her anklets you can see the pomegranates, & of course the movie title at the end when she comes back to reality.

12:10 When you're on the verge of death your heart rate either goes up or down but when it goes up your movements slows but once it goes down your body starts twitching

everyone says that LG was just an advertisement, and although it really is the obvious, it shouldn't be known that the screen rider is above it (just like the beginning of the clip) and the phrase is "life's good". Wouldn't that mean that when she follows this rider above her she would be returning to life and that's why she sees the whole scene (clip in general)?

Oddities that people missed In the "procession" scene: *The rose petals thrown represents the sparks from the theater sign. *The peacock perched on the roof of the scene is significant in Armenian mythology as it is a symbol of eternal life as it was believed that peacock's flesh do not decay. * The string of several thin blue ribbons that flowed in the wind in an arc held by the post represents the water coming from the hydrant at the crash (I wondered why they showed water alone in the frame before panning to the LG logo in the reality scene until I revisited the dream). * The two figures signaling that had blue cross headpieces could be police redirecting traffic.

The guy hitting the pillow = airbag in accident.

911 music video is giving me like *Judas* vibes.

Anyone else notice how at the very last “Can you patch the line” they edited a crying voice onto it or is it just me? Literally takes that last scene and adds so much emotion right before she wakes up.

It’s interesting to note that Gaga says in the ending that she didn’t take her pills, so although this imagery may be depicting hallucinations people see while on medication, Gaga’s character in this music video isn’t. There is a fan theory that her character was off her medication, and attempted to commit suicide by riding her bike into oncoming traffic which caused the final scene of the accident.

Side note, when lady gaga is on the stretcher and being prepared to receive defibrillation, we see the whole scene and death (the black dressed horse rider) is now sitting on a carousel, indicating that he's having a good time (a.k.a. preparing to do what he loves doing) Furthermore, he is seen moments before the defibrillation, pulling a gun and pointing it at Gaga, at which point she starts crying. This could be the subconscious realisation that she is in fact dying and crying for help in her dream state.

btw the last scene, where everything goes back to reality, was done in one take!

The person banging their head on the pillow represents the car crash and the person's head hitting the airbag in the drivers seat

More interesting bits. In the dream sequence, her spilled apples are suddenly pomegranates, just like the film. Also, the roses being tossed from the man on the ladder are the sparks shooting over the fireman's head on the ladder. The fire hydrant is the blue streamers flying into the air on the other side of the frame. When the paramedics arrive, you see the doctor throw a blanket over the man hitting his head, symbolizing the silver blanket she gave the driver behind the wheel, while the EMT reaches out to touch the body, a sign that he's checking his vitals before declaring him dead. The doctor is holding a snake over the cross on her heart, making the caduceus symbol we see. The woman cradling the body has a diamond teardrop on her face to symbolize her crying. Later, during the costume change, Gaga has spikes on her face and then on her head, which symbolize her pain from her concussion, and a later hairstyle has a red bloom on her forehead symbolizing the wound. When the EMT pulls her back from the brink of death, you see him standing there with his mouth wide open, and then turn to her, which is him giving her rescue breaths, but she turns away because she's still dying. All of the men in orange hats are firemen and all of the men in blue hats are policemen, which you can tell by their placement in the real world (the blue hats are waving their arms behind the scene and under the ladder, the orange hats bring in the stretcher which they carry just like the firemen do the car door).

Thank you Jordan, I never noticed that tiny flash at 8:41 lol and one thing I also noticed is the car door the firefighters are carrying in the end is a reference to that window-type structure Lady Gaga is standing in front of while singing at 5:12. I love these little easter eggs. Editor and Director really did a great job.

When you watch it initially, it is kinda confusing but when you finish it, you would understand the whole video.

In the slow mo scene: the fire hydrant is reinterpreted into the blue ribbons. And the peacock is an ode to the Armenia.

I think when the guy is throwing the rose petals it's the sparks seen at the end, not the water. You can see the same police guy in both sequences. Also, as someone who isn't a little monster, the 'scars on her mind' were a good catch, it's a reference to "the scars on my mind are on replay" which is a quote from her song "Replay" :)

He is sooo underrated, he needs so much more in terms of recognition and the knowledge he has about editing. Love your work man❤🤘🏼

I study cinema and I think the scene when the guy pull lady Gaga down was inspired from the first 3 minutes from the movie "8 1/2" (Fellini)

I think she tried to kill herself. When she's brought back to life, the first thing she asks is if anybody died. If what happened was an accident, I don't think she would've been aware that other people may've died or even aware that other people were involved. Her knowing other people may've died makes me think the accident was intentional on her part and she knew she was putting other people at risk. At the time she didn't care, though, because she had a psychotic break that was caused by her not taking her medication that day (she says she didn't have her pills when asked by the paramedic). The product placement has two purposes: obviously it's product placement, but the tagline "life's good" showing right before Gaga says "I don't want to die" makes me think she realized her life was worth living, that "life is good" and she regrets her suicide attempt. Every single frame of this music video tells a story and has a point, so I don't think they would've just thrown product placement in there without making it part of the story. If you pay attention at the end, every single person you see in that scene is in the dream sequence (I didn't notice this at first). The cop in the ending scene is wearing the blue costume in the dream scene. The firefighters in the ending scene are wearing the yellow costumes in the dream scene. It's pretty insane how much they packed into this video but it didn't feel overwhelming or come off overwrought.

Not one person yet has caught the dying rose when she is ascending. The tossed red rose petals represent the sparks at the accident scene, the blue blowing ribbons represent the gushing fire hydrant. The fire department has Roman numerals 911 on their hats, in the dream sequence. The yellow ribbon against the black curtain is literally the flat line. The video also heavily references the Arminian film The color of Pomegranates, as there is an Arminian film festival poster at the theater.

Hi Jordan, wow I must say that you're the first Video Reactor ever that mentioned and explained a super fast flashy frame of Lady Gaga awake from her dream and very shortly went back to her dream scene around 8:48-9:14. I didn't even notice that until you mentioned in your video 😂 (maybe because it was done at a very fast speed in purpose, so viewer won't notice that). Now after saw your explanation for that particular part makes the red thread for each scenes in the music video even clearer. The doctor placed a blanket on the man banging his head on the red pillow which represents the foil-like blanket that was on the man in the real scene inside the car.

The umbrella actually represents the helicopter as they move down to the site.

I had no idea that Tarsem Singh directed this but it makes soooo much sense now. He directed a movie called "The Fall" and its the most beautiful film ive ever watched! I HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone who likes this music video. The movie is about perception and how a little girl imagines a story told by a friend she makes while she's in the hospital. Because the story takes place in the little girls imagination we get a lot of the over the top, beautiful and stunning costume design that everyone loved in this music video too!
