NCT is one of the most unique kpop group in the music industry. I believe alot of people shame them but to us; They are amazing.

Jordan made me appreciate kpop editing skills more, especially sm's. Its just that their music videos are always top tier from the cinematography, visuals, editing, camera work, CGI, backdrop down to the outfits and whole vibe of the video that it became the bare minimum for us as kpop stans because its always THAT good. There's just no bland and boring cuts, every little detail is made sure that its filled with content that it becomes too much to handle when locals reacts to kpop mvs. It made me realize that we have such high standards in terms for that matter.

My theories heh~ So the first scene are them lying down, sleeping. (look closer to their sleeping position) They are dreaming. Taeyong is the first vampire, hence his throat looks like some wrecked jungle. The butterfly symbolises the girl they fall in love. [Doyoung said in their mv reaction vid, its their medium of the dreams, allowing the members to see the same dream.] Doyoung sitting alone near the cliffs with those cloudy weather before the butterflies came/before the girl appeared in their lives. So there are 2 full turned vampires : mark and taeyong (because they appeared in that wreaked jungle aAND FANGS) The lyrics "my heart when you touch" then the scene showed jungwoo's ribcages and there's a butterfly lingers around. Then, there's haechan climbing the cliff. He moves closer to the light. The lyrics "Its okay to grow even hotter, you brought heaven" Haechan being the vampire in love he is, let himself burned. At the end of the mv, mark, haechan, doyoung's sleeping position changed while the first vampire,taeyong didnt. I haven't figured out WHY. . .

Since I found and starting watching Jordan's reviews of Kpop videos about editing I learned so much about it and see the videos in diffrent perspective I never had the chance to and how much work the supportive (make up,styling,concept,editing,production) teams (of each kpop group) put into them. Now when I watch videos be it Kpop or not I enjoy them more because I now know about all the uses of those effects Jordan talks about in his videos and try spotting them out is fun as well. Personally I thanks Jordan for making this videos and for making Free classes for people who wanna learn editing as career ♡.Being so relatable with his reactions xD. Expecelly him editing himself mispronounced words cause of excitement 😆

What we love about you, jordan, is that you splain to us clearly (and amusingly) WHY we are SO affected & impressed by the unseen (to our naked eye) ARTISTY that goes into NCT127 MVs. What we less often grasp is WHAT IS GOING ON in 127 MVs plotwise, where their inspirations come from & why SM makes "random" choices that serve unseen practical & strategic purposes. We don't know cause we rarely get reactions from...script writers...the folks who come up with these far out notions for state of art 127 projects. I'm a playwright/screenwriter. I work in plot & metaphor same as you employ your editing toolkit. I see many are baffled by this FAVORITE MV yet it makes near perfect sense to me. I may have insights to share on the reason for & concept of Favorite. So for whatever it's worth, here is what I see going on IN this MV. And btw don't ask the boys what it all means cause they likely...dont know either. They are the Perfect Creatures of Sooman's Neo Culture Technology, his own steve jobs vision of kpops brilliant merger of art & how to make art...technically. intricate NCT songs are less composed (old school) than mocked up as demos for the boys to study. The song itself is BUILT in studio from their many recorded parts & musical pieces expertly assembled by sound technicians. The finished product is then RElearned BY the boys as the perfect song we see & hear in performance. As for the MV film, as an editor you know, "The Talent" is brought in as needed, given Xs to stand on in front of green screens and TOLD to do this or that often with no reason given. Unlike Stage performers who get the big picture cause they rehearse it from start to finish, Film Artists rarely see a whole script or a full storyboard or any more than their own part in it. Like NCT songs, the video is put together in post so, as we've seen by their own reactions, these MVs come as much of a shock to the excited boys as they do to us. That leaves Doyoung (all of us) to gamely speculate on "what taeyong eating a moth means" when it could be nothing more than a treat loving vamp boi sitting up in bed to summon a tasty snack (shee!) Aside from his fangs & a matching bite mark there are NO tried & true vampire trappings in Favorite, leaving some to say the concept is undeveloped. But, as a writer, I disagree and sum up the Favorite imagery this way: VAMPIRE SCRIPT ADVISOR: WE vampires are ALL about, swirling capes & creepy flappy black bats & "wolf children howling night music" & dripping red blood & gushing gore from BIG slashy fangs...got that? VAMP TAEYONG: That's nice. But WE 127Squad be switchin it up this time to serving street bling & fluttery pure white moths & "whistling past the graveyard at dusk" & floating red rose petals & nippy little puppy toofs...cause NCT be more like that...k? Alternate vampire imagery in Favorite is inspired & exquisitely employed but, like those moths (butterfies dont come out after dark) the imagery seems to have flown right over everyone's heads. As did the significant employment of TWO distinct costume changes (which usually are just an SM budget flex) but this time they MEAN something. NCT127 are known for their duality and THIS time they are double cast. As fashionistas, of course, the 127 vampboys nap in street swag on their mountain peak in their atmospheric cavern lair. But also keep in mind that ace NCT stylists NEVER faux put 127 in IDENTICAL costumes so doing that MEANS something AS a plot point. I suggest THOSE are elegant dress UNIFORMS of elite royal vampire HUNTERS drilling in their swank castle barracks. Costuming is how this plot makes sense & also assists the plot twist for through it we see that COCKY vamp leader taeyong has snuck into the castle and already BIT Jaehyun who steps up as the dashing (turned!) captain of the 127squad sent to destroy them. Hunter Jungwoo is also at risk of turning as he pulls open his uniform coat to reveal a vampire moth perched on his...still beating heart. In a stirring sequence, vampire sentries scan a stormy sky. The song escalates to foreshadow that, in some upcoming TWILIGHT, these opposing forces are destined to clash...in an MV dance battle. (See! 127 leaves the break out of the title track but, for the MV to tell its story, it really DOES have to BE there) Instead of classic creepy black bats flapping from their cave to hunt, we have a flurry of pure innocent white moths enveloping the vampire sentries to fill the darkened sky in frantic flight. Only to fall back to earth as rose petal corpses. I mean...common...admit that's gorgeous! Those petals rain down as blood roses sprout up to surround alarmed assembled vampires who, alerted to danger, take up a defensive line formation to greet the military snares of the approaching Hunters. Thus that "random" dance break truly is a DRAMATIC ELEMENT dance BATTLE with casualties. Hunter Doyoung operatically wails against a blood red sky as wounded vampire haechan tragically bleeds out petals. Still ONE moth (we hope its him!) survives the carnage to flit back to the fold. This time...the dance battle has come to a stand off. Both sides retreat & regroup as dawn breaks. The vamps snug in their lair, resume their slumbers leaving the hunters vigilant having survivied to fight another day. Yet in the end we know they follow a BITTEN leader thus eventually all are doomed to the same fate... Tbh, it's not as cut & dried to try to discern what a writer MEANT as it is to point to what an editor DID. BUT, as a writer, this is a fairly good guess at it. And AS a writer, the MV PLOT is AS creative & subtle & inspired & brilliant to me as every other part of this masterpiece. Strategically, the Favorite MV is a sly move on SMs part to thwart a few image issues 1) With the added MV break, b side beautiful FAVORITE is also slaying as a dance stage on the music shows. 2) Adding a KILLER competition style intro to the strong choreo & break in the Dance Practice Video, CONFIRMS 127 AS the entirely capable dance crew of 127s GREAT Main Dancer, Center & Leader who got stupidly slighted by some SWF types as a mere "idol judge" 3) the stylists' CHOICE to put NCT127 in a series of exquisitely fetching matching uniforms in the MV & stages adds a bonded & cohesive quality for the127 idols which may have been prudent since two members had just come back with another (some might say rivalrous?) NCT unit. AND finally, the romantic melodic Favorite is what a bit less adventurous Noise Antis & Vocal Line Purest NCTzens admittedly have coming after (The Good The Bad & The Ugly meets Rhinestone Cowboy Does Vegas meets 127s fond homage to their LAST live concert for 62,800 texans at the Houston Rodeo) aka the STYLISTC HELL that iconic next level hit Sticker put them through. But THAT is...another story

I'd totally join them. At any rate,in a video where they watched the video for the first time, Doyoung said the story is the main versions of themselves are dreaming they are vampires. So the theory of a acid dream isn't wrong. They look darn good though..vampire or not.

Dance breaks in music videos were so common with 2nd gen groups and some 1st gen. Makes sense since favorite is kind of reminiscent of 2000s Kpop. But less cringe LOL. The breaks never present in the audio version. As for the butterflies, butterflies are extremely symbolic usually in anime/manga. I feel like this vampire mv is doing that. They’re usually something magical or represent time. Like butterfly effect. Def had a purpose.
